Abstract:
Im Jahr 1993 trafen sich in Südäthiopien Vertreter der Arbore, Borana, Konso, Tsamai, Hamar and Dasanech, um Frieden zu schließen. Ethnologen waren zugegen, und der britische Ethnologe Alula Pankhurst filmte die Zusammenkunft. Ein Speer wurde von jeder Gruppe symbolisch stumpf gemacht und zerbrochen, danach wurden Symbole des Friedens an alle Teilnehmer ausgehändigt. Auf Einladung des Ältesten Grazmatch Surra kehrten Ivo Strecker und Jean Lydall 2002 zurück. Grazmatch hatte eine Botschaft für die ganze Welt: Blutvergießen ist eine Schande, für alle Ethnien in Äthiopien wie für die ganze Welt. Es bringt Armut und Krankheit. Solche und weitere Ideen werden von Grazmatch in einer Serie von Gesprächen im Film entwickelt. Sein Sohn Horra erläutert die Ereignisse von 1993, indem er an den ursprünglichen Ort des Geschehens zurückkehrt.
Abstract:
In 1993, in southern Ethiopia, the Arbore, Borana, Konso, Tsamai, Hamar and Dasanech met to make peace. Anthropologists from the South Omo Research Center witnessed the event, and Alula Pankhurst filmed the debates. One spear from each group was brought, placed on the ground, blunted and then broken. After the instruments for war were destroyed, tools of peace were given to all participants. In 2002, anthropologists Ivo Strecker and Jean Lydall returned, following an invitation by Grazmatch Surra. He had a message that he wanted them to bring to the whole world: Bloodshed dishonours not only the people of southern Ethiopia but all people wherever they live on earth, and poverty and sickness ultimately derive from the wilful spilling of human blood. These and similar ideas are developed by Grazmatch Surra in a series of spellbinding conversations. His son, Horra, returns to the sites where the original peace ceremony took place and explains the historic events.
