    Abstract: This article offers a comparative analysis of French and German textbooks, from which emerges that these textbooks share many common points, but also show various divergences in their approach to the topic of '1968'. The author focuses on two particular aspects. She first enlightens how French and German textbooks appropriated for a long time the protest movement of the sixties as a national phenomenon. She then examines the qualitative changes in the coverage of the '1968' events in French and German textbooks, from the shortcomings and the tendentious discourse of the sixties to the current endeavours towards a didactical treatment of this topic.
