Kerrie offers a working definition of AI—what it is (and isn’t) and why that distinction is important—and dispels many of the myths around AI. You’ll then dive into why AI matters for healthcare organizations and see how it’s transforming healthcare. O'Reilly Meet the Expert explores emerging business and technology topics and ideas through a series of one-hour interactive events. You’ll engage in a live conversation with experts, sharing your questions and ideas while hearing their unique perspectives, insights, fears, and predictions. Kerrie Holley is the first Technology Fellow and a senior vice president at Optum (part of UnitedHealth Group), where he focuses on advancing and applying technologies like artificial intelligence, deep learning, natural language processing, graph databases, the IoT, genomics, and ambient computing. Kerrie spent the bulk of his career at IBM, where he was an IBM Fellow and Master Inventor and is now an IBM Fellow Emeritus. His last assignment with IBM Research focused on scalable services and cognitive computing. He was IBM’s first African American Distinguished Engineer. He’s fond of appearing on ABC News and gave a TED talk to discuss IBM’s Watson the day after its historic debut on Jeopardy. Previously, as a CTO at Cisco, he worked on maturing an analytics portfolio focused on using machine learning and streaming analytics. Kerrie holds a number of technology patents and is the author of Is Your Company Ready for Cloud, 100 SOA Questions: Asked and Answered, and AI-First Healthcare (cowritten with UHG’s Siupo Becker). He holds a BA in mathematics from DePaul University in Chicago as well as a JD and an honorary degree, doctor of humane letters.
