Abstract:
Contemporary Cubans are descendents of Native Americans (Ciboney and Arawak), Spanish conquerors and administrators, and African slaves. Until the end of the 19th century Cuba was a Spanish colony. Cuba had economic and political ties to the United States until the socialist revolution in 1959.
