Abstract: Presentación -- El Museo de Arte de San Marcos y sus colecciones de arte popular -- Miradas alternas. Visiones y discursos en la colección de arte popular del Museo de Arte de San Marcos -- Nota editorial -- Catálogo.
Abstract: Forty years ago, the State recognized artisan Joaquín López Antay (Ayacucho, Perú, 1897 - 1981), creator of the "cajones de San Marcos", with the prize Premio Nacional Fomento a la Cultura, becoming the first popular artist to receive such a distinction. This recognition, delivered in a public ceremony in 1976, generated the protest of a group of academic artists who did not conceive that a traditional quechua popular artist's folk art was worth of such a distinction, generating a debate of the aesthetic value between folk art and art. The Museum of Art of San Marcos inaugurated a permanent exhibition in commemoration of this event with a large collection of folk and popular art pieces obtained from the generous donations of sisters Alice and Célia Bustamante and historian Pablo Macera
