Abstract: This study focuses on, what is believed to be, a key client group of sex workers: mobile workers. While several studies have been conducted in Turkey on sex workers, little evidence exists on their clients, the demand side of the commercial sex market. Research from other countries has shown that mobile workers, who are often working-age males spending significant time away from home, are more likely to have multiple sexual partners and visit sex workers (World Bank, 2009; Kulis et al., 2009; Marck, 1999). The objective of this study is to determine the HIV knowledge, awareness, and behaviors among four mobile worker groups in Turkey that may have elevated risks for HIV infection and transmission: sailors, truck drivers, construction, and tourism workers. International transportation, construction, and tourism are some of the fastest growing sectors of Turkey's economy, and mobile workers in these sectors are believed to be one of the main HIV transmission routes for future infections (Tumer and Unal, 2006). It is important to note two caveats of this study. First, no biomarker data (e.g., HIV testing) was collected from these workers, so conclusions regarding HIV prevalence or concentration of the epidemic cannot be made. Second, the sample did not include other at-risk groups or the general population, so it is difficult to know whether the behaviors are more or less risky in other population groups. Where possible, comparisons with other studies or countries are presented, but there are likely important differences in sampling and methodology. The major contribution of this study, however, is that it characterizes the risk factors within the mobile worker population in Turkey

Abstract: In this narrative, the first comprehensive account of recent Kurdish history, David McDowall traces the roots of Kurdish nationalism from the collapse of the Kurdish emirates in the nineteenth century and the consequent crisis in tribal politics, through the post-1918 peace settlement for which the Kurds were wholly unprepared, to the slow emergence of an educated non-tribal class during the middle years of this century. This new class faced two enemies. Externally, it had to resist the recently established regimes in Iran, Turkey and Iraq, all of which equated modernization with state nationalism, ethnic subordination and centralization. Internally, it had to transform a society based primarily on the socio-economic ethic of tribal patronage to one based on ethnic identity. McDowall shows how in each of these countries the struggle has taken on its own characteristics, problems and prospects; why pan-Kurdish unity still proves so elusive; and how governments have used the internal fault lines of Kurdish society to impede national progress. He also explains why the Kurdish question is unlikely to disappear and examines the likely prospects for the future

Abstract: Numerical analysis forms a cornerstone of numeric computing and optimization, in particular recently, interval numerical computations play an important role in these topics. The interest of researchers in computations involving uncertain data, namely interval data opens new avenues in coping with real-world problems and deliver innovative and efficient solutions. This book provides the basic theoretical foundations of numerical methods, discusses key technique classes, explains improvements and improvements, and provides insights into recent developments and challenges. The theoretical parts of numerical methods, including the concept of interval approximation theory, are introduced and explained in detail. In general, the key features of the book include an up-to-date and focused treatise on error analysis in calculations, in particular the comprehensive and systematic treatment of error propagation mechanisms, considerations on the quality of data involved in numerical calculations, and a thorough discussion of interval approximation theory. Moreover, this book focuses on approximation theory and its development from the perspective of linear algebra, and new and regular representations of numerical integration and their solutions are enhanced by error analysis as well. The book is unique in the sense that its content and organization will cater to several audiences, in particular graduate students, researchers, and practitioners.
