    Abstract: Ethnographic fieldwork is common in many fields of research. Lindblom thought she knew what to expect from field studies with First Nations children in British Columbia, Canada, diagnosed with autism, but ultimately had to change plans several times during the research project. Unexpected challenges, but also fantastic opportunities, were offered and dealing with them was sometimes confusing, frightening and discouraging. Ethical and methodological issues were constantly present. The aim of this text is to give a personal account, and provide aspiring ethnographers an idea of what doing research with Indigenous peoples might entail
