Abstract:
This book is a casuistic analysis of the marriage nullity suit for incapacity to consent filed in 1547 -after 20 years of marriage- by a powerful royal official, Juan Vázquez de Molina, married to Doña Antonia del Águila, noble, rich, lady of vassals. It is about the way in which the mentecaptio, the fatuitas, compromises the existence of the marriage sacrament. It is also a contribution to the clarification of the place and characterization of the "bobos", "the meek and simple madmen" in canon law, in Aristotelian psychology (scientia de anima) and in medicine, in mid-sixteenth century Spain
