    Abstract: Basing her analysis on a systematic review of current understandings of theological anthropology within Islam-related research and their problematisation in the light of developments in the history of concepts and science, Esma Isis-Arnautović ventures a new approach. Using the communication and theoretically oriented model of revelation by the Egyptian Qur'an scholar Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, she discusses the potential offered by the justifiability of theological anthropology from a revelation-based theological perspective and thus paves the way towards developing theological anthropology as a paradigm that goes far beyond the exegetical research of Muslim images of human beings
