Abstract: This document deals with the economic life of Haitian peasants in Marbial province as of the 1951. It shows that Haitian economy depends almost entirely upon the hard toil of rural people. When this report was compiled, rural communities lacked adequate communications, health services, agricultural organization and schools. The author observed a general pattern of rise in the cost of living and declining health conditions which led to the flight of starving and landless peasants to towns. Uprooted and unable to draw a living from the land, the author argued, these unfortunates would swell the urban proletariat and would probably become a formidable social danger.
