"This study of Caluco, one of the principal early colonial towns of western El Salvador, represents one facet of a larger investigation of the Izalco region, home to Pipil speakers who were major cacao producers just before and after the Spanish invasion. Emphasizes description of the 16th-century church of San Pedro y San Pablo, one of the best surviving examples of early colonial architecture in Central America, based on excavation and a survey of the standing architecture.
