This volume brings together most of the papers presented at the IV Encuentro Hispano-Luso de Historiadores del Derecho / IV Encontro hispano-luso de historiadores do Direito held at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona in June 2022. After a brief presentation by the editorial coordinator and the inaugural lecture by the prestigious Finnish professor Heikki Pihlajamäki, the twenty-five chapters deal with magnetic legal aspects of the Iberian territories in the middle, modern and, above all, contemporary ages, until the end of the twentieth century. Special emphasis is placed on jurisdictional conflicts, insurance doctrine in the 'ius commune' period, judicial experiences and figures, and the construction and crisis of the liberal state. It is fascinating to see how the work of Spanish and Portuguese legal historians is progressing in parallel, each time better connected, but with singular focuses of interest. The vitality of the discipline is well portrayed, in a progressively global scenario
