Abstract:
This anthology is the result of the conference from October 2009 on academic specialization in the nineteenth-century museum, as seen from an international viewpoint. It sheds light on a development in the European museum landscape by focussing on the process of specialization in the national museum, a trend one can observe in different disciplines after 1830. The authors concentrate on the question of the extent to which scholarship and learning influenced museum presentations, and the kind of knowledge the specialists wanted to spread by means of the museum.
