Abstract: "Cultural Complexes of Latin America: South and Soul explores the theory and embodied reality that cultural complexes are powerful determinants in the attitudes, behaviour, and emotional life of individuals and groups. The contributing authors, all from several Latin American countries, present compelling historical, anthropological, sociological, mythological, psychological, and personal perspectives on a part of the world that is full of promise and despair. Latin America is a region marked with psychic "fault lines" that cause disturbances in its populations on issues of social class, ethnicity, race, religion, gender, and even geography. Many of these "fault lines" appear to have their origins in the "basic fault" that occurred with the conquest and colonization of the region, primarily by the Spanish and Portuguese. This "basic faults" and its subsequent "fault lines" reside not only in various groups that compete for status, power, wealth, and meaning but in the psyche of every Latin American individual who carries the emotional memories and scars of conflicts that have coursed through their mixed blood for generations"--...

Abstract: "This book examines the concept of social psychology in today's context. It analyses the theoretical concepts of social psychology and their application to other fields. It further explores the discipline in a cultural, historical, and philosophical context with special emphasis on religion. The volume goes beyond individual focus and directs its attention to society as the centre of influence. It advocates for a symbiotic relationship between the concepts of social psychology and their implementation in a society transitioning from being value-oriented to commerce-oriented. The book also suggests ways in which social psychology can assist in dealing with issues plaguing today's world. This book will be useful to the students of psychology, applied psychology, sociology, social work, public health, gender, and women studies. It will also be indispensable to professionals working in the field of pediatrics, forensic medicine, psychiatry, law enforcement authorities like police and judiciary"--...

Keywords: Protest movements Psychological aspects ; Social psychology
Abstract: Protest is typically rare behavior, yet the first decade of the twenty-first century has been named the era of protest. Successful protests bring masses to the streets, and the emergence of social media has fundamentally changed the process of mobilization. What protests need to be successful is demand (grievances, anger, and indignation), supply (protest organizations), and mobilization (effective communication networks). Motivation to participate can be instrumental, expressive, and identity driven, and politicized collective identity plays an important role in the dynamics of collective action. This volume brings together insights from social psychology, political psychology, sociology, and political science to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of protest participation, particularly to the question of why some people protest while others do not. It is essential reading for scholars interested in the social and political psychology of individuals in action.

Abstract: "The accruement of crises over the last two decades, with their particular manifestations in the European context, has evoked the feeling of living in exceptional times, as captured in the recurrent claim that we live in the "age of anxiety." The main aim of this collection is to analyse, from a multidisciplinary perspective, the causes and consequences of the current dominance of the discourse of fear, anxiety, and crisis through the experience of distinct and often interdependent moral panics in twenty-first-century Europe. With its multidisciplinary approach, this volume sheds light on the need to view the interrelationship between different crises and their associated affects as crucial in attaining a more nuanced understanding of the aetiology and effects of the current "age of anxiety." This multidisciplinary scrutiny of the interrelationship of twenty-first-century fears, anxiety and crises signals an original engagement with these complex phenomena in order to make their emergence and profound effects on contemporary society more comprehensible. The timeliness of the thematic focus and the rigorous in-depth analyses make this collection relevant to students and academics within the fields of sociology, literary and cultural studies, political science and anthropology, as well as to those in European studies and global studies"--...

Abstract: "A stranger enters your world, and starts asking questions you would prefer not to answer. What do you do? Mostly, when an interloper appears, communities find ways to resist: they obstruct investigations and hide evidence, shelve complaints and silence dissent, even forget their own past and deny having done so. Such resistance-that is, the social mechanisms deployed by social groups to maintain the status quo-is the bane of field researchers everywhere, for it often seems to slam the door in their face. How can one learn about a community when they resist so very strongly? The answer is that, sometimes, the resistance is itself the key. By closing ranks and creating obstacles, community members often disclose more than they meant. This book shows how such resistance manifests itself, how researchers can respond to it, and, most importantly, what it all reveals. To do so, The Interloper draws insights from diverse stories of resistance and research inquiries-everything from Nazi rocket scientists to Disney union-busters, Harvard professors to those securing cadavers for medical school dissection-to draw attention to field resistance and help analyze it. Offering a window into such research for readers of many disciplines, this book, ultimately, is intended both as a practical and theoretical guide for field researchers. All these stories and more reveal a common truth: When any field researcher tries to gain access to a field, they are sure to meet resistance to their investigations. The Interloper brings together all these instances of resistance that he encountered or witnessed, alongside accounts from other published work. The book organizes them around ideal forms of resistance and details their unique implications. Ultimately, The Interloper argues that such resistance contains way more analytical possibilities than most interlopers (including field researchers) envision"--

Abstract: "This book illustrates how Life Positioning Analysis can be used as a theoretical and methodological approach to sociocultural psychobiography. Life positioning psychobiography studies lives as they unfold within a world of interactivity. It recognizes and portrays us as social beings embedded and developing within our life relationships and circumstances and striving to make something of our lives. Here, Jack Martin presents both single-subject and dual-subject studies of social psychologist Stanley Milgram, former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, existential humanist Ernest Becker, American heiress and child advocate Dorothy Burlingham and her life partner, renowned psychoanalyst Anna Freud, and indigenous athlete Jim Thorpe and his college coach Glenn "Pop" Warner. These case studies provide vividly memorable demonstrations of how we are positioned by circumstances and others, and come to position ourselves as socioculturally constituted, psychological persons. In so doing, they offer a systematic framework for studying the lives of people that shows sociocultural and social psychological development without resorting to mentalistic theories, concepts, and interpretations. The book will be of interest to students and scholars in areas related to sociocultural and developmental psychology, the psychology and sociology of personhood, theoretical psychology, qualitative methodology, and social science and life writing more generally"--

Abstract: Social Psychology of Dress, Second Edition presents and explains the major theories and concepts of human behavior relating to dress, drawing from the social science fields of psychology, sociology, and anthropology. The text positions dress as a process in which individual preferences, membership in social groups, and cultural awareness all impact choices about attire and appearance. Using empirical data and examples from current events and popular culture, the authors define dress, present its origins and functions, and discuss research methods for dress. They also explore the relationships between dress and topics including social perception, impression formation, identity, cultural patterns and rituals, and body image. Box features highlighting applications to the fashion industry, end-of-chapter summaries, and discussion questions further engage students in their study of dress.

Abstract: The capability approach is a versatile framework rooted on issues of justice and multidimensional assessment of quality of life developed in the 1980s as an alternative approach to prevailing mainstream development ideas focused narrowly on economic development. Most closely associated with the work of Amartya Sen, it has become of great interest to development scholars from a variety of different disciplines. Much has already been done exploring the conceptual foundations of the capability approach and discussing Sen's contribution to the field, but few books have explored the links between social choice (another field with rich contributions by Sen) and human development issues. Featuring many of the world's leading experts on social choice theory and capability indicators, Social Choice, Agency, Inclusiveness and Capabilities combines these interrelated themes into one volume and fully explores the relevance of social choice to human development.

Abstract: A deep dive into the social mind-brain, examining the processes we share with other social animals and illuminating those that are uniquely human. What Makes Us Social? is a scholarly but accessible exploration of the underlying processes that make humans the most social species on the planet. Chris and Uta Frith, pioneers in the field of cognitive neuroscience, review the many forms of social behavior that we humans share with other animals and examine the special form that only humans possess, including its dark side. These uniquely human abilities allow us to reflect on our behavior and share these reflections with other people, which in turn enables us to reason why we do things and to exert some control over our automatic behaviors. As a result, we can learn cooperatively with others and create and value cultural artifacts that survive through the generations. Going beyond how we come to know ourselves and understand the minds of others, Frith and Frith investigate how we adapt mutually to make social interactions work. This book stands out in its application of a computational framework—one that lies at the intersection of psychology and artificial intelligence—to key concepts of social cognition, such as empathy, trust, group identity, and reputation management. Ultimately, What Makes Us Social? is a profound examination of the ways we communicate, cooperate, share, and compete with other humans and how these capabilities define us as a species.

Abstract: This volume offers a new explanation of obedience and defiance in Milgram's lab. Examining one of the largest collections of Milgram's original audiotapes, Hollander and Turowetz scrutinize participant behavior in not only the experiments themselves, but also recordings of the subsequent debriefing interviews in which participants were asked to reflect on their actions. Introducing an original theoretical framework in the sociology of morality, they show that, contrary to traditional understandings of Milgram's experiments that highlight obedience, virtually all subjects, both compliant and defiant, mobilized practices to resist the authority's commands. By illuminating the relationship between concrete moral dilemmas and social interaction, Hollander and Turowetz tell a new, empirically-grounded story about Milgram: one about morality - and immorality - in the making of sense and self.

Abstract: This text provides original evidence arguing for dignity as an indicator of public health, by offering a scientific framework for measuring dignity and its social determinants. Hitlin and Andersson show that dignity can be efficiently measured by using simple survey items that ask individuals whether there is 'dignity' in their life or in how they are treated by others.

Abstract: "This book brings together recent writings that clarify, develop, extend and utilise the author's 'post-philosophical' sociological perspective, offering examinations of attempts by leading sociologists to diagnose and address the malaise of contemporary society arising from globalisation. Advancing the position that Norbert Elias's theoretical-empirical synthesis took the achievements and promise of the 'sociological revolution' of modern times further than any other sociologist to date has done, it presents and defends the 'post-philosophical' perspective, while offering a critique of the opposing critical theory paradigm. It thus supplements standard histories of sociology with new insights and challenges the orthodox limitation of the empirical scope of sociology to the recent period designated as 'modernity'. With attention to the destructive prevalence of 'overcritique' and the lack of an in-depth sociological psychology in much contemporary sociology, Post-Philosophical Sociology will appeal to scholars of sociology, social philosophy, social theory, cultural theory and psychoanalytical studies"--...

Abstract: This bookfocuses onthe paradoxical effect of social crises on mental health. When crises occur, there's an upsurge of mentalsuffering due to an intensification of such social insanities as violence, inequality, and insecurity. Paradoxically, there are positive consequences due to acts of kindness, cooperation, and the ability to cope and hope. Two interconnected categories of social crises are covered in the book. These are as follows: contagions (for example, the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous outbreaks of plague and smallpox since medieval times, and the 1918 influenza pandemic); conflicts (including the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and aspects of world war such as the Holocaust, the use of nuclear bombs in theSecond World War, and the climate emergency). What is also explored in the book is whether there is an amplification of everyday difficulties whereby having a mental health problem' has become normalised. The idea of mental-healthism' is introduced to explain the cultural shift towards this apparent normalisation of ordinary psychological suffering. The book will be of interest to students, practitioners, and researchers from sociology, psychology, nursing, social work, and psychiatry, among others

Abstract: ""I realized that what might be important to one person was not a priority to me. That no one else would create the structure to my day, or figure out my priorities, but me."" (Deb Knobelman) In this episode, Adam and James discuss the perils of saying yes too much. Jim Carrey might have us believe that saying yes to everything is exciting, but it's not. It leads to untold pressure, stress, and substandard delivery. It also means you literally might not have the capacity to focus on what's really important at work, and it can hurt your aspirations.

Abstract: From fake news to conspiracy theories, from inflammatory memes to misleading headlines, misinformation has swiftly become the defining problem of our era. The crisis threatens the integrity of our democracies, our ability to cultivate trusting relationships, even our physical and psychological well-being-yet most attempts to combat it have proven insufficient. In Foolproof, one of the world's leading experts on misinformation lays out a crucial new paradigm for understanding and defending ourselves against the worldwide infodemic. With remarkable clarity, Sander van der Linden explains why our brains are so vulnerable to misinformation, how it spreads across social networks, and what we can do to protect ourselves and others. Like a virus, misinformation infects our minds, exploiting shortcuts in how we see and process information to alter our beliefs, modify our memories, and replicate at astonishing rates. Once the virus takes hold, it's very hard to cure. Strategies like fact-checking and debunking can leave a falsehood still festering or, at worst, even strengthen its hold. But we aren't helpless. As van der Linden shows based on award-winning original research, we can cultivate immunity through the innovative science of "prebunking": inoculating people against false information by preemptively exposing them to a weakened dose, thus empowering them to identify and fend off its manipulative tactics. Deconstructing the characteristic techniques of conspiracies and misinformation, van der Linden gives readers practical tools to defend themselves and others against nefarious persuasion-whether at scale or around their own dinner table.

Abstract: An Autoethnography of Letter Writing and Relationships Through Time: Finding Our Perfect Moon is about love letters, stories, and the ability of words to bring people together across time and physical space. Weaving together edited and annotated letters between a young couple in the 1930s with interludes of autoethnographic reflection, the book relates the author's experiences as she has negotiated this project over 20 years. Reading the letters is a sepia-toned window into the very private world of two young, well-educated Jewish-American people who lived their lives against the backdrop of the Jazz Age, the Great Depression, and Prohibition. The author uses reflective autoethnographic interludes to tell the story of finding the letters and to explore the significance of letters as a communicative genre. Adams considers the ethical implications of being a researcher eavesdropping on private moments in others' lives, and she explores the function of dialogue in the development of the romantic relationship that unfolds in the letters and between the letters and her. The author also advocates for the everyday relational communication practices that collectively comprise life's most important experiences. Students and researchers interested in letter-writing, autoethnography, and relationship development will find relevance in this book. It will also be of value to those interested in letter collections, the ethical implications of intimate research on people from the past who cannot offer consent, the role of nostalgia in interpersonal communication, and anyone who thrills at a love story told from primary documents from the past

Abstract: True Believers and the Great Replacement explores the responses of segments of Western cultures who fear that changes in the racial, religious, and ethnic makeup of society threaten their way of life. The Great Replacement Theory (that suggests that the traditional character of Western society is being undermined by outsiders) is discussed. Analyzed with reference to the Critical Race Theory and the Cancel Culture movement, the author examines the anxieties and reactions of those who feel alienated by a world of rapid and disorienting change. Drawing upon the thought of Eric Hoffer and Emile Durkheim, these responses are discussed in terms of the concepts of anomie and the true believer in innovative and effective ways. Based on this analysis, strategic responses are suggested. The volume will appeal to scholars and practitioners involved with issues of race and ethnicity, business, and social and cultural analyses

Abstract: Self and Identity: The Basics is a jargon-free and accessible introduction that draws on key theories and ideas in Social Psychology to explore the ways that other people affect our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Highlighting selfhood as a function of identity, the book shows that it is our relationships with others in our social world that largely determine who we are. "Who am I?" It's a question that most all humans have grappled with at some point or another. This book seeks to answer this question through relatable examples that show how psychological theory can be applied to our own lives. It considers the philosophical and psychological context in which ideas about selfhood have developed and reviews the ways that the people around us, and the groups that we belong to, affect who we are. Finally, these ideas are considered in the context of real-world phenomena and behaviours; for instance, how we use language, conflict between groups, and social influence. With a glossary of key terms, suggestions for further reading, and chapter summaries, this book is an ideal introduction for students of social psychology and related fields. It will be of interest to anyone who wants to gain social psychological insight into who they are and how others got them there

Abstract: "This book explores the relationship between social mentality, public opinion, media, and other factors through mixed methods in China, especially since the 21st century. The book deploys qualitative and quantitative research and adopts a multi-disciplinary perspective and diversified research methods. The studies are built on and contribute to the burgeoning literature seeking to anatomize the relationship between social mentality, media, and public opinion from the point of view of sociology and communication. It also aims to explore how media can be used to appease public opinion. As the first systematic study of the interconnection between social mentality and public opinion, this book provides empirical support and a theoretical framework for both areas. It will thus be a great read for students and scholars of communication, sociology, and social psychology, especially for those with a focus on China and new media"--...

Abstract: "Insecurity is an inevitable part of being human. Although life is insecure for every organism, humans alone are burdened by knowing that this is so. This ground-breaking volume features contributions by leading international researchers exploring the social psychology of insecurity, and how existential, metaphysical and social uncertainty influence human social behaviour. This accessible and engaging book will be of interest to students, researchers and practitioners as a textbook or reference book in behavioral and social science fields, as well as to a broad spectrum of intelligent lay audience seeking to understand one of the most intriguing issues that shapes human social life"--...

Abstract: "People are social animals and change is a social process. To understand this social process and explain the thoughts, feelings and behaviours of individuals, knowledge of how people are influenced by the presence of others is crucial. In this regard, bias, is a concept with a lot of potential. Cognitive and social biases, by influencing human thinking, feelings, and behaviour, provide insights and knowledge that are helpful, if not essential for the field of organisational behaviour and change management. The statements stated above may seem obvious and self-evident, but practice as well as science, show that it is not. Organizational Behaviour and Change Management: The Impact of Cognitive and Social Bias aims at unleashing the potential of cognitive and social biases to develop a more effective change management theory and practice. To do so thousands of scientific articles were analysed and assessed. The most prominent biases are structured by using a practical and comprehensible framework based on five core social motives (belonging, understanding, controlling, trusting and self-enhancing). With its evidence-based, systematic and integrative approach, this book provides scientists and practitioners in the field of organisational behaviour and change management with the best available evidence, linking biases to organisational behaviour and change and thereby further enriching the field of change management"--

Abstract: Relationships are central to people's health, well-being, and happiness, yet relationship dynamics (such as attraction, love, and divorce) remain mysterious for many people. Designed for advanced undergraduate courses, this textbook shows what today's relationship scientists have uncovered about how we form, maintain, and dissolve relationships.

Abstract: In the wake of the 2016 U.S. Presidential election, considerable ink was spilled on the architecture and interior design of the buildings owned and inhabited by Donald J. Trump. In an effort to understand the inner workings of America’s first real-estate-mogul-in-chief, commentators remarked on everything from the president’s fastidious taste in window dressings to the exaggerated floor counts boasted by many Trump-branded towers. Notes on Trumpspace takes this discursive trend as a point of departure. It examines not only key examples of “Trumpitecture” but also works of film, fiction, and contemporary art that center on or otherwise illuminate the psychogeography of “super luxury” real estate. Engaging closely with current political debates, the book takes a critical approach to mainstream liberal reactions to the Trump presidency. It argues that the fascination and horror Trump has provoked is owing in part to the way he lays bare the obsession with status, self-branding, and achievement-at-any-cost that has been part and parcel of the broader neoliberal ethos. Finally, it analyzes the January 6, 2021 storming of the US Capitol through the lens of spatio-political theorizations of settler colonial power and conceptions of home and homeland. A genre-defying work of political and aesthetic inquiry, Notes on Trumpspace is a sustained investigation into the relationship between the built environment, late capitalist fantasy, and national identity. It asks what it means for current and future understandings of home and dwelling that this era’s most notorious peddler of high-end real estate succeeded in peddling his way into the White House in 2016

Abstract: "These days, everyone feels insecure. We are financially precarious, overwhelmed and anxious, and worried about the future. While millions endure the stress of struggling to make ends meet, in reality, the status quo isn't working for anyone, even the affluent and comparatively privileged; they, too, are deeply insecure. What is going on? The Age of Insecurity exposes how seemingly disparate crises -- our suffering mental health and rising inequality, the ecological emergency, and the threat of fascism -- are tied to the fact that our social order runs on insecurity. Across disparate sectors, from policing and the military to the wellness and beauty industries, the systems that promise us security instead actively undermine it. We are all made insecure on purpose, and our endless striving shapes how we feel about ourselves and others -- including what we believe is personally and collectively possible. The Age of Insecurity sheds new light on our contemporary predicament, exposing the psychological and political costs of the insecurity-generating status quo, while proposing ways to forge a new path forward."--

Abstract: Hailed as the 'Guru of the New Left' and a leading figure of 1960s counterculture and liberation movements, the philosopher Herbert Marcuse is amongst the most renowned and controversial thinkers of the twentieth century. Eros and Civilization is one of his best-known books and brought him international fame. Taking his cue from Freud's view that repression of the instincts is a defining characteristic of the human mind, Marcuse fuses Freud's insight with Marx's theories of alienation and oppression. He argues that rather than our instincts turned in on themselves, it is modern capitalism itself that is preventing us from reaching the freedom we can find in a non-repressive society. A sweeping indictment of modern capitalism and consumerism that remains fresh and insightful, Eros and Civilization is a classic of activist and radical thinking that continues to fire debate and controversy today. This Routledge Classics edition includes a new Foreword by Douglas Kellner

Abstract: "The impacts of tourism, an increasingly crucial area of study amongst researchers, are primarily investigated through economic, socio-cultural or environmental perspectives. The social psychological effects of tourism have not been adequately researched despite often being much more important for many destinations, especially where conflicts among different stakeholders exist. This book investigates the social psychological effects of tourism within the scope of social psychology theory. This book introduces the concept of social psychology, as distinct from psychology and sociology, and its relationship to tourism, examines tourism within various theoretical frameworks e.g. career ladder theory and Maslow's 7 hierarchy, explores the ways in which tourism changes attitudes, and finally, investigates social psychological issues in tourism business. It is an important resource for advanced undergraduates, graduate students and relevant practitioners in the field of tourism, and in some cases for a broader public in the field of social psychology"--

Abstract: This book is a collection of skeptical social essays in which the author reveals that much of our popular beliefs, psychology and science are defective, because, although we live in the 21st century, our approach to them is deeply rooted in our culture, and biased by history and evolution. These essays help the reader take a step sideways, think independently, and not fall victim to fads, fakes, and frauds. Anyone who values a deeper understanding of contemporary social reality and the changes taking place in it should read this book, from students to scientists and intellectuals. Through these essays we learn to look under the veneer of reality, behind the altars of science, under the scenery of pop-psychology and behind the facade of therapeutic culture. Thanks to essays on suicide, euthanasia and more, we also come close to the edge of life and death. Contrary to many meticulous social critical analyzes, in sharing his thoughts the author takes us on a picturesque journey through bounty hunters, ludicrous machines, compulsive hoarding, Charlie Chaplin, and much more

Abstract: Essentials of Social Psychology: An Indian Perspective offers a comprehensive introduction to social psychology with a focus on the cultural and social fabric of Indian society. Split into five sections, the book covers the nature, scope, history and methods of social psychology; individual level processes; interpersonal level processes; social processes; group processes; and social issues. The authors, S.K. Mangal and Shubhra Mangal, address the latest research trends, and offer a varied insight into a range of topics including social influence, social exchange processes, group dynamics, aggression, prejudice and attitudes. The book also examines topical themes and includes two chapters on social issues facing contemporary Indian society. While highlighting significant Indian research contributions and including examples and case studies from an Indian context, this book goes on to examine the discipline in the context of the socio-psychological background of this subcontinent. Complex concepts are clearly explained and the book aids student learning through useful pedagogical features such as assessment questions, case studies, chapter summaries and boxed key points. Covering all the core topics within social psychology, this is an essential textbook for graduate or undergraduate courses in social psychology, social work, social neuroscience, community medicine or public health. In addition, it's also a useful introduction for those taking the Psychology option for the Indian and Provincial Civil Services and other competitive examinations

Abstract: Humans are social animals, and change is a social process. To understand this social process and explain the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours of individuals, knowledge of how the presence of others influences people is crucial. In this regard, bias is a concept with a lot of potential. Because cognitive and social biases influence human thinking, feelings, and behaviour, these provide insights and knowledge that are helpful, if not essential, for the field of organizational behaviour and change management. The preceding statements may seem obvious and self-evident, but practice as well as science show that they are neither. Organizational Behaviour and Change Management: The Impact of Cognitive and Social Bias aims at unleashing the potential of cognitive and social biases to develop a more effective change management theory and practice. To do so, we analysed and assessed thousands of scientific articles. The most prominent biases are structured by using a practical and comprehensible framework based on five core social motives (belonging, understanding, controlling, trusting, and self-enhancing). With its evidence-based, systematic, and integrative approach, this book provides scientists and practitioners in the field of organizational behaviour and change management with the best-available evidence, linking biases to organizational behaviour and change and further enriching the field of change management

Abstract: "Social psychology is relevant today as much as it was over a hundred years ago during its genesis. But academics would argue that the impetus, and at the core of any discipline is the theoretical foundation of that discipline. The genesis to the maturity of social psychology from the early twentieth century to the second decade of the twenty- first century has seen the creation and development of numerous theories intended to conceptualize spheres of reality that were somewhat outside of the range of sociology or psychology. Many of these theories still meaningfully contribute toward the research and theoretical expansion of the discipline. Gordon Allport (1968) defined social psychology as "an attempt to understand and explain how the thoughts, feelings and behavior of individuals are influenced by the actual, imagined or implied presence of others." As limited as definitions are, this definition of social psychology captured the dynamism, focus, and direction of the discipline. Important to an understanding of social psychological behavior is taking into consideration not only what is happening socially to the person but also what is occurring internally, including cognitively, to the individual which, in turn, affects social behavior. From its genesis rooted in the work of William James's Principles of Psychology to current development of the discipline, there has always been an emphasis on the individual within the social interaction paradigm. Theorization, therefore, within the discipline has fallen within this paradigm, which is now extended to include the neurological functioning of human beings within the social psychological context."--
