Abstract: In recent decades, the lives of people in their late teens and twenties have changed so dramatically that a new stage of life has developed. In his provocative work, Jeffrey Jensen Arnett has identified the period of emerging adulthood as distinct from both the adolescence that precedes it and the young adulthood that comes in its wake. Arnett's new paradigm has received enormous worldwide scholarly attention. On the 20th anniversary of the publication of his groundbreaking work, this third edition of 'Emerging Adulthood' fully updates and expands Arnett's findings, and adds a new chapter on cultural and international variations.

Abstract: Contradictions permeate and propel organisational life - including tensions between reaching globally while focusing locally; competing while also cooperating; performing reliably while experimenting, taking risks, and learning; or granting autonomy while constraining freedom. These tensions give organisational members pause, but also spur them to take action; they may be necessary for preserving the social order, but are also required to transform it. Drawing on the Eighth International Symposium on Process Organisation Studies, this text examines how contradictions fuel emergent, dynamic systems and stimulate novelty, adaption, and transformations.

Abstract: One of the most intriguing questions since the time of Plato concerns what defines skillful performance in terms of specific capabilities, knowledge, competence, and expertise. As Frederick Taylor famously noted, an answer to that question would enable us to know what to focus on and what to do to improve the performance of individuals, groups, and organizations. Although we have come to know a great deal about the 'properties' of capabilities, knowledge, competence, and expertise at large, we know significantly less about how they are enacted in skillful performance. Thus, how skillful performance draws on knowledge, how skills develop, and how competencies and capabilities are put to action are still eluding us. Process thinking has not sufficiently explored skillful performance. This book aims to address this gap. It brings together scholars from different backgrounds, traditions, and disciplines whose common perspective is distinctly process-oriented. They seek to rethink capabilities, knowledge, competence, and expertise, not as if these phenomena were already accomplished but, on the contrary, as processes in the making - as performative accomplishments. Such rethinking opens up several new conversations and extends the range of inquiry about how capabilities, knowledge, competence, and expertise are accomplished in practice, and, consequently, how they may be improved. / Verlag

Abstract: Creativity, innovation, and change are vital to the development and sustainability of all organizations. Yet, questions remain about exactly how novelty comes about, and what dynamic processes are involved in its emergence? Ideas of emergence and process, drawn from a variety of different philosophical traditions, have been the focus of increasing attention in management and organization studies. In this volume, these issues are brought to bear on novelty and innovation, by examining new organizational and product development processes, whether planned or unplanned. The contributions in this volume offer both theoretical insights and empirical studies on, inter alia, innovation, music technology. haute cuisine. pharmaceuticals, and theater improvisation. In doing so, they throw light on the importance of emergence, improvisation, and learning in orgaizations, and how both practitioners and scholars alike can best understand their own assumptions about process. In addition, the volume includes general essays on process perspectives in organization studies.

Abstract: Since Arnett proposed his theory of emerging adulthood in 2000, it has turned into a full-fledged academic field, and the ideas have been applied in practical areas as well, such as mental health and education. The Oxford Handbook of Emerging Adulthood brings together a wealth of theory and research that has developed in this new and burgeoning field.

Abstract: This is the original book presenting the theory of emerging adulthood, which offered a new conception of development from the late teens through the twenties. The book presents emerging adulthood as a new life stage that has arisen over the past half century in developed countries, and in which explorations and instability are the norm. For this tenth anniversary edition, all the chapters have been updated, and three new ones have been added, on media uses, social class issues, and problems. The other chapters cover a wide range of topics in the lives of emerging adults.

Abstract: "Emerging Adults in America: Coming of Age in the 21st Century portrays the lives of young Americans between adolescence and young adulthood, a distinct developmental stage that editor Jeffrey Jensen Arnett describes as emerging adulthood. Over the past 40 years, the average age of marriage and parenthood has risen dramatically, and the years from the late teens through the mid-20s are no longer dedicated to settling into traditional adult roles. Instead, the focus has shifted to pursuing higher education, self-exploration, and shaping a future that best suits personal goals and desires. Along with coeditor Jennifer Lynn Tanner, Arnett has compiled a collection of chapters in this groundbreaking work that cover a range of topics, from relationships with parents to views about love, sex, and marriage; from experiences in college to those in the workplace; and from religious beliefs to beliefs about the concept of adulthood. This insightful book will be a valuable resource for developmental psychologists, therapists, and mental health practitioners who work with emerging adults and will also appeal to young people and their families"--Jacket. Abstract: Addressing both the changes in the study of adolescent behavior and the changes in the nature of adolescent development in Western society, this informative collection of readings provides a comprehensive cross cultural perspective of adolescent development. Covering every aspect of adolescent development as it takes place in cultures worldwide and historically, this book takes a longer age range approach to emerging adulthood and provides a look at this pivotal developmental period extending into the early twenties. Essays analyze the changes in the study of adolescent development and changes in adolescent development from age ten to early twenties historically and around the world. For individuals interested in adolescent development.
