Abstract: "Since the end of the Cold War, globalization-both the process and the idea-has been reshaping the world. An array of new global studies scholarship has emerged to make sense of the various transnational manifestations of globalization-economic, social, cultural, ideological, technological, environmental, postcolonial, and technological. However, following a series of crises in the first two decades of the 21st century, the neoliberal globalization system of the 1990s has come under severe strain. Are we witnessing a turn toward "deglobalization" intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine War, or a moment of "reglobalization" spearheaded by digital technology? The contributors to this book employ transdisciplinary research strategies to assess pertinent past developments, the current state, and future trajectories of globalization in light of the current dynamics of insecurity, volatility, and geopolitical tensions"--

Abstract: Since the end of the Cold War, globalization—the process and the idea—has been reshaping the world. Global studies scholarship has emerged to make sense of the transnational manifestations of globalization: economic, social, cultural, ideological, technological, environmental, and postcolonial. But a series of crises in the first two decades of the twenty-first century has put the neoliberal globalization system of the 1990s under severe strain. Are we witnessing a turn toward “deglobalization,” intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine or a moment of “reglobalization,” spearheaded by digital technology? The contributors to this book employ transdisciplinary research to assess past developments, the current state, and future trajectories of globalization in light of today’s dynamics of insecurity, volatility, and geopolitical tensions. “Globalization offers a long overdue framework for understanding the continuities and discontinuities of global dynamics, with scholarship from every corner of the globe. For the first time, we have a volume that brings the local into conversation with the global across domains of economics, politics, culture, and technology, while attending to the through lines from past to present. A must-read for scholars and students of globalization.” — SARA R. CURRAN, Associate Vice Provost for Research at the University of Washington and section editor of Global Perspectives

Post-Corona, multi-resilience and "futures literacy" : "bring together what belongs together" -- Corona and emerging new responsibility patterns -- Outlook : a post-Corona world in the making. Towards difficult, but feasible innovation - for the sake of a more pro-positive re-globalisation.
Abstract: "In Corona: The Once-in-a-Century Health Crisis and Its Teachings. Towards A More Multi-Resilient Post-Corona World Roland Benedikter and Karim Fathi first describe the pluri-dimensional characteristics of the Coronavirus crisis. Then they draw the pillars for a more "multi-resilient" Post-Corona world including socio-political recommendations of how to generate it. The Coronavirus crisis proved to be a bundle crisis consisting of multiple, interconnected crisis dimensions. Before Corona, most concepts of a "resilient society" implied a rather isolated focus on only one crisis at a time. Future preparedness in the 21st century will require a multi- and transdisciplinary risk-management concept that the authors call "multi-resilience". "Multi-resilience" means to systematically enhance universal resilience competencies of societies, such as collective intelligence or overall responsiveness, being appliable to pluri-dimensional crisis contexts. If the Coronavirus crisis in retrospect will have contributed to implement multi-resilience, than it will ultimately have contributed to progress. This volume includes a Foreword by an Nederveen Pieterse and an Afterword by Manfred B. Steger"--

Abstract: Manfred B. Steger’s extensive body of work on globalization has made him one of the most influential scholars working in the field of global studies today. His conceptualization of the global imaginary is amongst the most significant developments in thinking about globalization of the last three decades. Revisiting the Global Imaginary pays tribute to Steger’s contribution to our intellectual history with essays on the evolution, ontological foundations and methodological approaches to the study of the global imaginary. The transdisciplinary framework of this field of enquiry lends itself to investigation in diverse sites. This volume of essays explores practices associated with the reproduction of the global imaginary in such diverse sites as mobile money, Irish pubs, cyber-capitalism, urban space, music in post-apartheid South Africa and global political movements, amongst others

Abstract: At the turn of the twenty-first century, globalization - both the process and the idea - bestrode the world. Widely acclaimed by political and economic pundits as the most important phenomenon of our time, it took the world by storm. Two decades later, it has come under sustained attack by the re-invigorated forces of the extreme right and radical left. Does globalization still matter in our unsettled world? Responding in the affirmative, this study develops and applies a new framework of an 'engaged theory of globalization' to analyze some of today's most pressing global challenges: the rise of national populism, ecological degradation, rapid urbanization, new sources of insecurity, and the changing landscape of higher education. Offering a comprehensive appraisal of globalization in our unsettled times, the authors explain why and how transplanetary interrelations continue to matter in a world that is wavering between globalist expansion and nationalist retrenchment.
Description / Table of Contents: Introduction: what is happening to globalization? -- Mapping a new genealogy of 'globalization' -- Rethinking the dominant framework of globalization theory -- Considering the subjective dimensions of globalization -- Outlining an engaged theory of globalization -- Excavating the long history of globalization -- Examining the promise of global studies -- Making sense of the populist challenge to globalization -- Confronting the global urban imaginary -- Living in the unsettled world of the anthropocene

Abstract: Since the end of the Cold War, globalization has been reshaping the modern world, and an array of new scholarship has risen to make sense of it in its various transnational manifestations-including economic, social, cultural, ideological, technological, environmental, and in new communications. The chapters discuss various aspects in the field through a broad range of approaches. This handbook focuses on global studies more than on the phenomenon of globalization itself, although the various aspects of globalization are central to understanding how the field is currently being shaped.

Abstract: Globalization has been the subject of fierce academic and public debates over the past two decades, but the focus has tended to revolve around 'objective' aspects linked to economics and technology. This authoritative title, edited by a leading academic in the field, brings together important papers which cover the equally crucial 'subjective' dimensions with particular emphasis on the production and dispersion of cultural meanings, identities and practices. This research review will be of use to anyone with an interest in the subject of globalization and culture.

Abstract: "Conceived as a study in the history of political thought, Steger's book examines the origins, meaning, and unfolding of Gandhi's dilemma as it played itself out in both theory and political practice. This discussion is inextricably linked to significant and timely issues that are critical for the study of nationalism, for Gandhi's vision raises the important question of whether it is indeed possible to construct a benign type of nationalism that is rooted in neither physical nor conceptual forms of violence."--BOOK JACKET.

Abstract: Throughout his long career as a political thinker and activist, Mahatma Gandhi encountered the dilemma of either remaining faithful to his nonviolent principles and risking the failure of the Indian nationalist movement, or focusing on the seizure of political power at the expense of his moral message. Putting forward his vision of a "nonviolent nationalism," Gandhi argued that Indian self-rule could be achieved without sacrificing the universalist imperatives of his nonviolent philosophy. Conceived as a study in the history of political thought, this book examines the origins, meaning, and unfolding of Gandhi s dilemma as it played itself out in both theory and political practice. This discussion is inextricably linked to significant and timely issues that are critical for the study of nationalism, for Gandhi s vision raises the important question of whether it is indeed possible to construct a benign type of nationalism that is rooted in neither physical nor conceptual forms of violence

Abstract: "Violence and Its Alternatives fills the existing gap in the literature on violence with a collection of essays from the most influential writers in the fields of politics, psychology, sociology, gender studies, and race studies. Methodologically diverse and intellectually wide-ranging, it appeals to specialists, students, and the interested general reader. This collection has two features not found in any other discussions of violence: first, a full spectrum of views ranging across disciplines, from now-classic treatments of the subject by philosophers such as Hannah Arendt and Frantz Fanon to postmodern considerations of violence embedded in social structures from the likes of Michel Foucault and Jacques Derrida; and second, the first interdisciplinary study of nonviolence, a thoughtful and serious look at the alternatives to violence from spiritual leaders such as Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr."--BOOK JACKET.

Abstract: The proliferation of violence is arguably one of the most crucial topics of concern in an era of ethnic wars on one hand, and cultural debates about what constitutes violence in arenas of pornography, nationalism, and the media, etc. on the other.
