Abstract: The third edition of this textbook presents a further updated approach to fuzzy sets and systems that can model uncertainty — i.e., “type-2” fuzzy sets and systems. The author demonstrates how to overcome the limitations of classical fuzzy sets and systems, enabling a wide range of applications, from time-series forecasting to knowledge mining to classification to control and to explainable AI (XAI). This latest edition again begins by introducing classical (type-1) fuzzy sets and systems, and then explains how they can be modified to handle uncertainty, leading to type-2 fuzzy sets and systems. New material is included about how to obtain fuzzy set word models that are needed for XAI, similarity of fuzzy sets, a quantitative methodology that lets one explain in a simple way why the different kinds of fuzzy systems have the potential for performance improvements over each other, and new parameterizations of membership functions that have the potential for achieving even greater performance for all kinds of fuzzy systems. For hands-on experience, the book provides information on accessing MATLAB, Java, and Python software to complement the content. The book features a full suite of classroom material.

Abstract: In recent years, large amounts of data became available in all areas of science, industry and society. This provides unprecedented opportunities for enhancing our knowledge, and to solve scientific and societal problems. In order to emphasize the importance of this, data have been called the "oil of the 21st Century". Unfortunately, data do usually not reveal information easily, but analysis methods are required to extract it. This is the main task of data science. The textbook provides students with tools they need to analyze complex data using methods from machine learning, artificial intelligence and statistics. These are the main fields comprised by data science. The authors include both the presentation of methods along with applications using the programming language R, which is the gold standard for analyzing data. This allows the immediate practical application of the learning concepts side-by-side. The book advocates an integration of statistical thinking, computational thinking and mathematical thinking because data science is an interdisciplinary field requiring an understanding of statistics, computer science and mathematics. Furthermore, the book highlights the understanding of the domain knowledge about experiments or processes that generate or produce the data. The goal of the authors is to provide students with a systematic approach to data science that allows a continuation of the learning process beyond the presented topics. Hence, the book enables learning to learn. Main features of the book: - emphasizing the understanding of methods and underlying concepts - integrating statistical thinking, computational thinking and mathematical thinking - highlighting the understanding of the data - exploring the power of visualizations - balancing theoretical and practical presentations - demonstrating the application of methods using R - providing detailed examples and discussions - presenting data science as a complex network Elements of Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence using R presents basic, intermediate and advanced methods for learning from data, culminating into a practical toolbox for a modern data scientist. Abstract: It is undeniable that the recent revival of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly changed the landscape of science in many application domains, ranging from health to defense and from conversational interfaces to autonomous cars. With terms such as “Google Home”, “Alexa”, and “ChatGPT” becoming household names, the pervasive societal impact of AI is clear. Advances in AI promise a revolution in our interaction with the physical world, a domain where computational intelligence has always been envisioned as a transformative force toward a better tomorrow. Depending on the application family, this domain is often referred to as Ubiquitous Computing, Cyber-Physical Computing, or the Internet of Things. The underlying vision is driven by the proliferation of cheap embedded computing hardware that can be integrated easily into myriads of everyday devices from consumer electronics, such as personal wearables and smart household appliances, to city infrastructure and industrial process control systems. One common trait across these applications is that the data that the application operates on come directly (typically via sensors) from the physical world. Thus, from the perspective of communication network infrastructure, the data originate at the network edge. From a performance standpoint, there is an argument to be made that such data should be processed at the point of collection. Hence, a need arises for Edge AI -- a genre of AI where the inference, and sometimes even the training, are performed at the point of need, meaning at the edge where the data originate. The book is broken down into three parts: core problems, distributed problems, and other cross-cutting issues. It explores the challenges arising in Edge AI contexts. Some of these challenges (such as neural network model reduction to fit resource-constrained hardware) are unique to the edge environment. They need a novel category of solutions that do not parallel more typical concerns in mainstream AI. Others are adaptations of mainstream AI challenges to the edge space. An example is overcoming the cost of data labeling. The labeling problem is pervasive, but its solution in the IoT application context is different from other contexts. This book is not a survey of the state of the art. With thousands of publications appearing in AI every year, such a survey is doomed to be incomplete on arrival. It is also not a comprehensive coverage of all the problems in the space of Edge AI. Different applications pose different challenges, and a more comprehensive coverage should be more application specific. Instead, this book covers some of the more endemic challenges across the range of IoT/CPS applications. To offer coverage in some depth, we opt to cover mainly one or a few representative solutions for each of these endemic challenges in sufficient detail, rather that broadly touching on all relevant prior work. The underlying philosophy is one of illustrating by example. The solutions are curated to offer insight into a way of thinking that characterizes Edge AI research and distinguishes its solutions from their more mainstream counterparts.

Abstract: This book provides a forum for experts to present their latest research in disruptive technologies, promoting knowledge transfer. Due to the important advances in technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of things, or bioinformatics produced in recent years, it is necessary to conduct a thorough review of current ethical patterns. One of the research fields that is in full expansion and with a broad future is technology ethics or tech ethics. Just a few years ago, this type of research was a small part, and they did not have too many technology researchers involved. At present, due to the explosion of new applications of artificial intelligence, their problems and their legal barriers have flourished innumerable initiatives, declarations, principles, guides, and analyses focused on measuring the social impact of these systems and on the development of a more ethical technology. It is, therefore, a problem that needs to be addressed from an academic and multidisciplinary point of view, where experts in ethics and behavior work together with experts in new and disruptive technologies. The international conference “Disruptive Technologies Tech Ethics and Artificial Intelligence” (DITTET 2022) provides a forum to present and discuss the latest scientific and technical advances and their implications in the field of ethics. It provides a unique opportunity to bring together experts in different fields, academics, and professionals to exchange their experience in the development and deployment of disruptive technologies, artificial intelligence, and their ethical problems.

Abstract: Nowadays, data analysis is becoming an appealing topic due to the emergence of new data types, dimensions, and sources. This motivates the development of probabilistic/statistical approaches and tools to cope with these data. Different communities of experts, namely statisticians, mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers, econometricians, and psychologists are more and more interested in facing this challenge. As a consequence, there is a clear need to build bridges between all these communities for Data Science. This book contains more than fifty selected recent contributions aiming to establish the above referred bridges. These contributions address very different and relevant aspects such as imprecise probabilities, information theory, random sets and random fuzzy sets, belief functions, possibility theory, dependence modelling and copulas, clustering, depth concepts, dimensionality reduction of complex data and robustness.

Abstract: This book is of interest to practitioners, researchers and graduate students seeking to apply existing techniques, to learn about the state of the art, or to explore novel concepts, in the theory and application of fuzzy sets and logic. Human knowledge and judgement are essential in both designing technological systems and in evaluating their outcomes. However, humans think and communicate in imprecise concepts, not numbers. Fuzzy sets and logic are well-known, widely used approaches to bridging this gap, which have been studied for nearly 60 years. NAFIPS 2022 brought together researchers studying both the theoretical foundations of fuzzy logic and its application to real-world problems. Their work examined fuzzy solutions to problems as diverse as astronomy, chemical engineering, economics, energy engineering, health care, and transportation engineering. Many papers combined fuzzy logic with interval or probabilistic computing, neural networks, and genetic algorithms.

Abstract: This book is a collection of cutting-edge and cross-disciplinary studies on natural, human-made, and coupled human-natural systems, addressing the challenge of developing integrated knowledge from multiple disciplines. The authors explore the structure, function, and dynamic mechanisms of various systems, both natural and human-made, as well as analyze their reciprocal interactions under the concept of “coupled human-natural systems.” These interactions are used to understand feedback, nonlinearities, thresholds, time lags, legacy effects, and path dependencies, emerging across multiple spatial, temporal, and organizational scales. In other words, this book is a collection of advanced research on unique properties of natural and human-made systems, as well as human-environment dynamics, reciprocal relationships, and cross-scale interactions. The authors outline prospects on building a holistic view of social development and coherent sustainability. Among the topics covered are the following: human networks research; adaptation of local people to social and environmental challenges; coupled dynamics of socioeconomic and environmental systems; critical issues in social science climate change research; education for greater sustainability; peace, justice, and strong institutions; advances in cultural traditions and strategies for social stability; innovative development and barriers to sustainable development; economic systems in the age of digital changes and unstable external environments. The scholars analyze how more effective technologies can enhance resilience, reduce vulnerability, and minimize human impacts on natural systems, taking into consideration critical thresholds to prevent harmful feedback to human systems. The authors grasp the complexity of systems by integrating knowledge of constituent subsystems and their interactions. The framework developed by the authors is used to integrate human and natural systems for achieving greater sustainability, covering critical threats, challenges, and best governance approaches and practices. The research results obtained from studies on coupled human-natural systems are stronger, the authors argue, if compared with traditional (discipline) approaches. .

Abstract: Basic Concepts of Decision Theory -- Individual and Collective Decisions -- Group Ordering of Multi-Attribute Objects. .
Abstract: This book describes an original approach to solving tasks of individual and collective choice: classification, ranking, and selection of multi-attribute objects. Object representation with multisets allows considering simultaneously numerical and symbolic variables. In group verbal decision analysis, judgments of all participants are taken into account without a compromise between contradictory. Natural language is used to describe problems and objects, formalize knowledge of experts and preferences of decision makers, and explain results. Verbal methods and technologies are more transparent, less laborious for a person, and weakly sensitive to measurement errors. The book also includes examples of applying new tools in real ill-structured high-dimensional choice tasks. It is intended for researchers, managers, consultants, analysts, and developers as well as for teachers and students of applied mathematics, computer science, information processing, engineering, economics, and management.

Abstract: Why AI does not include gender in its agenda? The role of gender in AI, both as part of the community of agents creating such technologies, as well as part of the contents processed by such technologies is, by far, conflictive. Women have been, again, obliterated by this fundamental revolution of our century. Highly innovative and the first step in a series of future studies in this field, this book covers several voices, topics, and perspectives that allow the reader to understand the necessity to include into the AI research agenda such points of view and also to attract more women to this field. The multi-disciplinarity of the contributors, which uses plain language to show the current situation in this field, is a fundamental aspect of the value of this book. Any reader with a genuine interest in the present and future of AI should read it.

Abstract: This book assesses the place of logic, mathematics, and computer science in present day, interdisciplinary areas of computational linguistics. Computational linguistics studies natural language in its various manifestations from a computational point of view, both on the theoretical level (modeling grammar modules dealing with natural language form and meaning and the relation between these two) and on the practical level (developing applications for language and speech technology). It is a collection of chapters presenting new and future research. The book focuses mainly on logical approaches to computational processing of natural language and on the applicability of methods and techniques from the study of formal languages, programming, and other specification languages. It presents work from other approaches to linguistics, as well, especially because they inspire new work and approaches.

Abstract: Basic concepts of voting -- Preferential voting based on data envelopment analysis -- Group preferential voting -- Applications of preferential voting in industry and society.
Abstract: This book presents the theory and application of the models presented in this regard and establishes a meaningful relationship between data envelopment analysis and multi-attribute decision making. The issue of "choice" using the aggregation of voters' votes is one of the most important group decision-making issues that are always considered by decision makers in electoral systems. Voting is a method of group decision making in a democratic society that expresses the will of the majority. Voting is perhaps the simplest way to gather the opinions of experts, and this ease of application has made it a multi-attribute decision-making method in group decisions. Preferential voting is a type of voting that may refer to electoral systems or groups of the electoral system. In preferential voting, voters vote for multiple candidates, and how the candidates are arranged on the ballot is important. Researchers have made many efforts to provide models of voter aggregation, and one of the best results of these efforts is the aggregation of votes based on the policy of data envelopment analysis. Thus, in group decisions, the opinions of experts are obtained in a simple structure and consolidated in an interactive and logical structure, and the results can be a powerful tool for decision support. This book provides a complete set of voting models based on data envelopment analysis and expressing its various applications in industry and society. However, most decision-making methods do not use the opinions of experts or reduce the motivation of experts to participate in complex interactions and time, while voting methods do not have this shortcoming. This book is suitable for graduate students in the fields of industrial management, business management, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, and economics. It can also be a good source for researchers in decision science, decision support systems, data envelopment analysis, supply chain management, healthcare management, and others. The methods presented in this book can not only offer a comprehensive framework for solving the problems of these areas but also can inspire researchers to pursue new innovative hybrid methods.

Abstract: The book addresses the challenge of living in a multilingual world from three perspectives: socio-linguistics and the study of multilingualism in contrast, philosophy of technology with its emphasis on the world as a technosphere—how it is made, how it is experienced, and how it can be managed, and then pedagogy and the question of teaching and learning to competently negotiate multilingual environments. In today‘s multicultural and multilingual world, technologies provide a common ground. The story of the technosphere as a multilingual environment offers new perspective, namely that of learning to cooperate and coordinate.

Abstract: We are starting to enter a post-COVID-19 life. While this pandemic has made everyone’s life challenging, it also expedited the transition of our everyday lives into a new form, often called “The New Normal.” Although many people often use the terminology, perhaps we still do not have consensus about what it is and what it should be like. However, one thing that is clear namely that robotics and artificial intelligence technologies are playing a critical role in this transition phase of our everyday lives. We saw the emergence of last-mile delivery robots on the street, AI-embedded service robots in restaurants, uninhabited shops, non-face-to-face medical services, conferences and talks in metaverses, and AI-based online education programs. This book is an edition that aims at serving researchers and practitioners in related fields with a timely dissemination of the recent progress in the areas of robotics and artificial intelligence. This book is based on a collection of papers presented at the 10th International Conference on Robot Intelligence Technology and Applications (RiTA), held at Griffith University in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The conference was held in a hybrid format on December 7–9, 2022, with the main theme “Artificial, Agile, Acute Robot Intelligence.” For better readability, the total of 41 papers are grouped into five chapters: Chapter I: Motion Planning and Control; Chapter II: Vision and Image Processing; Chapter III: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Autonomous Vehicles; Chapter IV: Learning and Classification; and Chapter V: Environmental and Societal Robotic Applications. The articles were accepted through a rigorous peer-review process and presented at the RiTA 2022 conference. Also, they were updated, and final versions of the manuscripts were produced after in-depth discussions during the conference. We would like to thank all the authors and editors for contributing to this edition.

Abstract: This book describes new techniques for making decisions in situations with uncertainty and new applications of decision-making techniques. The main emphasis is on situations when it is difficult to decrease uncertainty. For example, it is very difficult to accurately predict human economic behavior, so in economics, it is very important to take this uncertainty into account when making decisions. Other areas where it is difficult to decrease uncertainty are geosciences and teaching. The book analyzes the general problem of decision making and shows how its results can be applied to economics, geosciences, and teaching. Since all these applications involve computing, the book also shows how these results can be applied to computing, including deep learning and quantum computing. The book is recommended to researchers, practitioners, and students who want to learn more about decision making under uncertainty—and who want to work on remaining challenges.

Abstract: This book addresses many applications of artificial intelligence in robotics, namely AI using visual and motional input. Robotic technology has made significant contributions to daily living, industrial uses, and medicinal applications. Machine learning, in particular, is critical for intelligent robots or unmanned/autonomous systems such as UAVs, UGVs, UUVs, cooperative robots, and so on. Humans are distinguished from animals by capacities such as receiving visual information, adjusting to uncertain circumstances, and making decisions to take action in a complex system. Significant progress has been made in robotics toward human-like intelligence; yet, there are still numerous unresolved issues. Deep learning, reinforcement learning, real-time learning, swarm intelligence, and other developing approaches such as tiny-ML have been developed in recent decades and used in robotics. Artificial intelligence is being integrated into robots in order to develop advanced robotics capable of performing multiple tasks and learning new things with a better perception of the environment, allowing robots to perform critical tasks with human-like vision to detect or recognize various objects. Intelligent robots have been successfully constructed using machine learning and deep learning AI technology. Robotics performance is improving as higher quality, and more precise machine learning processes are used to train computer vision models to recognize different things and carry out operations correctly with the desired outcome. We believe that the increasing demands and challenges offered by real-world robotic applications encourage academic research in both artificial intelligence and robotics. The goal of this book is to bring together scientists, specialists, and engineers from around the world to present and share their most recent research findings and new ideas on artificial intelligence in robotics. .

Abstract: On Computational Analysis and Simulation for Multilevel Organizational Learning -- Multilevel Organisational Learning -- Modeling Dynamics, Adaptivity and Control by Self-Modeling Networks -- Modeling Mental Models: their Use, Adaptation and Control -- From Conceptual to Computational Mechanisms for Multilevel Organisational Learning -- Using Self-Modeling Networks to Model Organisational Learning.
Abstract: Although there is much literature on organisational learning, mathematical formalisation and computational simulation, there is no literature that uses mathematical modelling and simulation to represent and explore different facets of multilevel learning. This book provides an overview of recent work on mathematical formalisation and computational simulation of multilevel organisational learning by exploiting the possibilities of self-modeling network models to address it. This is the first book addressing mathematical formalisation and computational modeling of multilevel organisational learning in a systematic, principled manner. A self-modeling network modeling approach from AI and Network Science is used where in a reflective manner some of the network nodes (called self-model nodes) represent parts of the network’s own network structure characteristics. This is supported by a dedicated software environment allowing to design and implement (higher-order) adaptive network models by specifying them in a conceptual manner at a high level of abstraction in a standard table format, without any need of algorithmic specification or programming. This modeling approach allows to model the development of knowledge in an organisational setting in a neatly structured manner at three different levels for the usage, adaptation and control, respectively, of the underlying mental models. Several examples of realistic cases of multilevel organisational learning are used to illustrate the approach. Crucial concepts such as the aggregation of mental models to form shared mental models out of individual mental models are addressed extensively. It is shown how to model context-sensitive control of organisational learning taking into account a wide variety of context factors, for example relating to levels of expertise of individuals or to leadership styles of managers involved. Mathematical equilibrium analysis of models of organisational learning is also addressed, among others allowing verification of correctness of the implemental models in comparison to their conceptual design. Chapters in this book also contribute to the Management and Business Sciences research by demonstrating how computational modeling can be used to capture complex management phenomena such as multilevel organizational learning. This book has a potential implication for practice by demonstrating how computational modeling can be used to capture learning scenarios, which then provide a basis for more informed managerial decisions.
