    Abstract: F. Scott Fitzgerald once said: "Show me a hero, and I'll write you a tragedy." In the 1990s, nobody fell deeper than O.J. Simpson. Once considered a national treasure, the athlete was accused of brutally slaying his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman on June 12, 1994. Within days, the media and public developed an unprecedented obsession with the story, turning a murder investigation and trial into a sensationalized reality show. Tatjana Neubauer examines the mediatization, deliberate manipulation, and the simplification of popular criminal trials for profit on television. She demonstrates that TV conflated legal proceedings into entertainment programming by commodifying events, people, and places.

    Abstract: Das Karussell ist eine Maschine, in der die Tauschparameter von Sinn und Sinnlichkeit im szenischen Arrangement erprobt werden. Ab dem 19. Jahrhundert wird der Auszug wissenschaftlich-medialer Schwindelmaschinen aus den Laboren der Psychophysik Teil einer psychischen Festkultur, die sich von der physisch orientierten Kirmeswelt absetzt. Ralf Bohn liest Medienszenen des Karussells in Literatur, Film, Architektur, Fotografie und Malerei als Illustrationen von physischem Schwindel, ökonomischem Tausch und medialer Täuschung. Damit zeigt er auf, wie durch Spielorte legitimierter Überschreitung die Tauschökonomie jenseits von Moral und diesseits pathologischer Abgründe ausgetestet wird

Im afrikanischen Film übernehmen schwarze Schauspieler Rollen, die in Europa und den USA weißen Darstellern vorbehalten sind. Die Rollen der Weißen werden zu einem Imaginationsraum, der eine Inszenierung von Planspielen ermöglicht. Cassis Kilian zeigt: Die afrikanischen Regisseure nutzen die Rollen als Verhandlungsplattform, auf der sie den Umgang mit postkolonialen Gegebenheiten, etwa dem kolonialen Erbe, neokolonialen Strukturen oder der Hegemonie westlicher Medien erproben.

    Abstract: Kunst und Kultur finden im Kulturbetrieb statt. In diesem institutionellen Rahmen sind Künstler, Interpreten und Kulturmanager tätig, um Kunst zu produzieren und an ein Publikum zu vermitteln. Dabei spielen spartenspezifische Traditionen und künstlerische Ziele ebenso eine Rolle wie politische, ökonomische und rechtliche Bedingungen, die von außen an den Kulturbetrieb herangetragen werden. In einem oft nur schwer durchschaubaren Geflecht von Zielen, Interessen und Bedingungen fallen im Kulturbetrieb Entscheidungen zur Kunst - und dies nicht selten ohne Rücksicht auf den künstlerischen Gehalt. Das Buch verfolgt das Ziel, diese Zusammenhänge sowohl spartenübergreifend als auch spartenspezifisch zu verdeutlichen. Neben der Frage, warum bestimmte Traditionen den Kulturbetrieb bis heute prägen, ist von besonderem Interesse, durch welche Veränderung der Rahmenbedingungen andere Ziele verfolgt und erreicht werden können. Daraus ergeben sich interessante Perspektiven für die Zukunftsfähigkeit der Künste im Kulturbetrieb.
