Es weist Züge des Wiener Kabaretts auf und will vor allem die Bürger des Marktes ansprechen. Der Film enthält neben Eingangs- und Schlußlied drei der insgesamt sechs Nummern des Programms.
    Abstract: A variant of the usual "Faschingbriefe" at Bad Aussee is the "Ausseer Wandertheater" shot on Shrove sunday 1979 at the hotel "Stadt Wien". It contains features of the Viennese cabaret and is intended to address primarily the citizens of Bad Aussee. The film shows besides the songs at beginning and end three out of the six sketches of the program.

    Abstract: Die aus neun Männern bestehende zwanglose Gruppe der "Reiterer" - so genannt nach der "Reitern" (Gemeinde Bad Aussee), wo ihr Leiter wohnt - trägt fast jedes Jahr am Faschingsmontag in mehreren Lokalen im Raum Aussee einen selbstverfaßten, gesprochenen und gesungenen Faschingsbrief vor. In der Themenwahl und im Darstellungsstil strebt diese Gruppe eine typisch "ländliche" Wirkung an. Das vorliegende Filmdokument, das außer 6 Sketches auch Einzug, Begrüßung und Verabschiedung enthält, wurde am Faschingsmontag 1978 im Gasthaus "Steirerhof" in Bad Aussee aufgenommen.
    Abstract: The "Reiterer" an informal group so called after the living place of four members "Reitern" (community of Bad Aussee), sing nearly every year on shrove monday a "Faschingbrief". By means of choice of the topics of their criticism and of their style of acting they strive after achieving a "rural" effect. The film shows selling of leaflets, in the Aussee regions as well called "Faschingbrief", six sung sketches and the stay of the Faschingbrief singers at "Steirerhof" after their scene.

    Abstract: Für das Waldbauernmuseum Gutenstein bauen drei Zimmerleute als Ersatz für das 50 Jahre alte Wasserrad eines Sägewerkes ein neues von fast 4 m Durchmesser. Schwarzföhren- und Lärchenholz wird teils mit althergebrachtem Werkzeug, teils mit Maschinen bearbeitet.
    Abstract: To replace a fifty year old water wheel of a sawmill three carpenters build a new one, nearly 4 meters in diameter, for the "Waldbauernmuseum" (Museum for the culture of forest farmers). The wood of pine and larche is worked on partly by traditional tools partly by machines.

    Abstract: Ein 67-jähriger Handwerker drechselt aus Palisander eine 99teilige Gebetsschnur: Zerkleinerung des Holzes, grobe Formgebung, Durchbohrung der Rohlinge, Zuschleifen der Dreheisen, Drechseln der Perlen (ovale, runde, walzen- und eiförmige), Zubereitung der Politur, Polieren, Auffädeln.
    Abstract: In Turkey there are only a few skilled craftsmen who are able to procedure hand-made rosaries from various materials. In Istanbul only one specialist could be found who was able to make rosaries of a high quality with the aid of a simply constructed lathe. The films shows the complete process of turning a rosary consisting of 99 beads. The material used was palisander.

    Abstract: Ein 67-jähriger Handwerker drechselt aus Palisander eine 99teilige Gebetsschnur: Zerkleinerung des Holzes, grobe Formgebung, Durchbohrung der Rohlinge, Zuschleifen der Dreheisen, Drechseln der Perlen (ovale, runde, walzen- und eiförmige), Zubereitung der Politur, Polieren, Auffädeln.
    Abstract: In Turkey there are only a few skilled craftsmen who are able to procedure hand-made rosaries from various materials. In Istanbul only one specialist could be found who was able to make rosaries of a high quality with the aid of a simply constructed lathe. The films shows the complete process of turning a rosary consisting of 99 beads. The material used was palisander.

    Abstract: Ein auf die Herstellung von Wasserspeiern spezialisierter Handwerker fertigt aus einem 2,9 m langen Fichtenbalken eine 6 cm tiefe und 12 cm breite, einseitig geöffnete Rinne an, wie sie in dieser Gegend als Wasserspeier verwendet wird. Zu der Arbeit benutzt er eine Haue, ein Stemmeisen und einen Holzschlegel.
    Abstract: A craftsman specialized in making gargoyles makes a one-sided opened furrow out of a pine-wood beam as it is used in this region as gargoyle. To this aim he uses an axe-like tool, a ripping chisel and a mall.

    Abstract: Das gefesselte Schaf liegt zwischen den Beinen des Scherers am Boden. Er beginnt die Schur an den Vorderfüßen des Schafes und schneidet dann vom Hals bis zu den Hinterbeinen die stark verfilzte Wolle so ab, daß möglichst viel in einem Stück bleibt. Die Bauchhaare bleiben ungeschoren. Zwischendurch wird die Schere ins Wasser getaucht, geschliffen oder mit Milch befeuchtet.
    Abstract: It is early summer in the high mountains. The sheep which is to be shorn lies fetterd on the floor between the legs of the shearer. Under frequent wetting a special shears with water and milk the strongly felted winter wool is cut off as much as possible in one piece. The abdominal hairs remain unshorn.

    Abstract: In einer 0,5 m tiefen Grube von 1 m Durchmesser werden im Dorf Tefarerii (Huahine) Lavasteine erhitzt. Auf die glühenden Steine legt man Blätter. Ein Schwein wird geschlachtet, enthaart, ausgenommen, gereinigt und mit verschiedenen Gemüsen auf die Blätter gelegt. Das Ganze wird mit Blättern und Erde zugedeckt und ca. 2 Stunden gedämpft.
    Abstract: In the village Tefarerii lava stones are heated in a pit (diameter 1m, depth 0,5 m). The glowing stones are covered with leaves. A pig is slaughtered, gutted and cleaned and layed on the leaves together with different vegetables. The whole thing is covered with leaves and earth and stewed for about 2 hours.

    Abstract: Im Innerberger Stadel in Steyr, Oberösterreich, spielt alljährlich das "Steyrer Kripperl". Dieses um eine Weihnachtskrippe gruppierte Puppentheater mit mechanischen Komponenten besteht in der Hauptsache aus mit Stabpuppen gespielten Szenen burlesken Inhalts, vielfigurigen "Aufzügen", die Biblisches oder Brauchtümliches wiedergeben, und aus Handwerkerfiguren, die - mechanisch bewegt - ihre spezifischen Arbeiten vorführen. Auswahl von neun aus den insgesamt dreißig überlieferten Szenen.
    Abstract: In the "Innerberger Stadel", an antic barn of the old Iron Trading Company in Steyr, Upper Austria, every year since 1922 the "Steyrer Kripperl", the last Christmas crib theatre of Austria still alive today, plays from Advent to Candlemas. This puppet theatre with roots back to the 18th century is arranged upon a stage round a Christmas crib with mechanical elements. It is connected only loosly with the biblical traditional Christmas happening and consists mainly of scenes with burlesque contents, which are performed with marionettes, then of multifigured "acts", which describe biblical or traditional folk stories and at last of groups of workmen, who perform their specific working methods animated mechanically. The film shows a selection of nine from a total of 30 traditional scenes.

    Abstract: Wegen unwegsamen Geländes kann die Halmfrucht vom Brandacker nicht heimgeführt, sondern muß eingetragen werden. Diese als "Korntragen" bezeichnete Tätigkeit hat einen speziellen Ernteschlußbrauch hervorgebracht mit den Brauchelementen Mahl, Tanz und Maske. Den Höhepunkt des festlichen Abends bildet der Auftritt eines Maskentieres ("Habergeiß").
    Abstract: Because of the rugged mountain country the harvested grain cannot be pulled home by carts, but must be carried by man power. This activity is called "Korntragen" ("carrying the grain"). Furthermore, it is accompanied by a peculiar harvest ritual with such specific ceremonial features as common meal, dances and the appearance of masked mythological beings. The culmination of this nocturnal feast is marked by the appearance of the "Habergeiß" (two persons carrying a goats' mask and other elements of this mythological animal).

    Abstract: In Rohr im Gebirge, situated in a densely wooded farming area, charcoal production is carried on for a subsidiary livelyhood. The hard wood trunks are pild into an oblong charcoal pile. The film shows construction and tending of the pile during the carbonization process as well as the final reaming and clearing out of the pile.

    Abstract: A hillslope, covered with scrub and young trees, is cleared. The underbrush is spread and dried to be set on fire at the end of July. After the burning the clearing (in local dialect "Brand") is cooling down and various relics are removed. Then follows the sowing of winter rye.

    Abstract: Kurze Straßenszenen im Zentrum des Marktes Bad Aussee am Nachmittag des Faschingsdienstages mit den Maskengestalten "Pleß". Scientific film document shot on Shrove tuesday 1977.
    Abstract: In the center of Bad Aussee appear in the afternoon of Shrove tuesday among other masked persons the "Pleß". These are youths dressed in old, worn clothes, carrying sticks with rags tied on to them. They dip these rags in puddles and run after other young people with them, who in their turn throw snowballs and pieces of ice, shouting "Pleß, Pleß". Therefore the "Pleß" have protected their heads with "helmets", consisting of beehive, boothheads or washing powder boxes.
