    Abstract: "Dieses Buch stellt Körpervorstellungen der Spätrenaissance jenen der Gender Studies gegenüber, da diese historisch inkompatiblen Textkorpora signifikant ähnliche holistische Ansätze in medialen und epistemischen Zeitenwenden verfolgen. In den ausgewählten naturphilosophischen Texten des 16. Jahrhunderts werden originäre Theorien zu Leiblichkeit verhandelt, die an eine mediterrane Tradition des Materialismus anknüpfen.Gemeinsam sind ihnen relationale Modelle von Natur und Kultur, was etwa eine ausgeklügelte Affektelehre dokumentiert. Wechselseitige Einflüsse zwischen Körperinnerem und Körperumgebung sind auch zentraler Forschungsgegenstand rezenter Gender Studies, die auf die Offenlegung der metaphorischen Verfasstheit wissenschaftlicher "Wahrheiten" zielen. Die Archäologie historischer Körpermodelle erschliesst originäre Zugänge zu Konstruktionen des (männlichen) Subjektes. Da Geschlechterregime immer auf Ordnungen von Körper und Geist basieren, ist es unerlässlich, deren Wechselspiel mit technologischen, sozialen und kulturellen Paradigmen zu beleuchten. Deshalb wird auch die Verarbeitung philosophischer Körperkonzepte in wirkmächtigen literarischen Texten wie etwa der Celestina oder dem Orlando Furioso eingehend analysiert"--
    Abstract: "In this study, which compares vastly different text corpora, early modern texts on natural philosophy and literature are juxtaposed against modern gender studies. This daring venture is based on the hypothesis that these two text corpora pursue analogous interests and strategies, both striving to create holistic models for the interplay between matter and spirit and the use rhetorical figures for the purpose of generating knowledge"--

Jahrhundert« revidiert, von einem konstruktivistischen Verständnis von Nation ausgehend, die komparatistische Frage nach dem "Bild", das die Literatur von dem Fremden vermittelt. Aus sozial-, literatur- und geschichtswissenschaftlicher Perspektive untersuchen die Beiträge am Beispiel von deutschen und französischen Texten zwischen Aufklärung und Vormärz das Verhältnis von Nationalstereotypen, Wahrnehmung bzw. Darstellung des Fremden und Identitätsbildung.
    Abstract: Main description: Proceeding from a constructivist understanding of the term 'nation', this volume containing the papers delivered at the Stuttgart colloquium on »German-French Perception Patterns and the Concept of National Identity in the 18th and 19th Centuries« re-views the question of the 'image' of otherness and the foreign conveyed by literature. From a sociological, literary and historical perspective the articles examine German and French texts from the period between the Enlightenment and the Vormärz to elucidate the relations between national stereotypes, awareness and representation of otherness, and identity formation.
