Abstract: This educational guide will help students and practitioners seeking to understand the fundamentals and practice of linear programming. The exercises contained within demonstrate how to solve classical optimization problems with an emphasis on spatial analysis in supply chain management and transport logistics. All exercises describe the Python programs and optimization libraries that can be used to solve them. The first chapter introduces key concepts in linear programming and establishes a new cognitive framework to help students and practitioners set up each optimization problem. This cognitive framework organizes the decision variables, constraints, objective function, and variable bounds in a format that allows for direct application to optimization software. The second chapter introduces two types of mobility optimization problems (shortest path in a network and minimum cost tour) in the context of delivery and service planning logistics. The third chapter introduces four types of spatial optimization problems (neighborhood coverage, flow capturing, zone heterogeneity, service coverage) and provides a workflow for visualizing the optimized solutions in maps. The workflow creates decision variables from maps by using the free geographic information systems (GIS) programs QGIS and GeoDA. The fourth chapter introduces three types of spatial logistics problems (spatial distribution, flow maximization, warehouse location optimization) and demonstrates how to scale the cognitive framework in software to reach solutions. The final chapter summarizes lessons learned and provides insights about how students and practitioners can modify the Python programs and GIS workflows to solve their own optimization problem and visualize the results

Abstract: Digitization has had a profound impact on the way we represent, communicate, and therefore manage cultural heritage today, both online and in-presence; at the same time, the increasingly immediate and faster transfer of audio and video contents has made possible the production of stories that are more appealing to the audience. Consequently, the evolution of digital technologies available to storytellers has influenced the form of the narratives themselves. New multimedia technologies, such as hypertexts and graphic and audiovisual materials, can today be integrated into the storytelling, introducing innovative concepts and stimulating interest, thus giving rise to new media cultures. In the digital age of streaming, the enjoyment of audiovisual content is unprecedented, offering opportunities not only for creators but also for audiences. This scenario encourages the possibility of offering customized contents, tailored to the diverse and specific audiences that characterize the current public interested in cultural heritage. This approach makes it possible to create tailored narratives, maximizing cultural and emotional impact.Since the last decade, a new mode of storytelling called digital storytelling, or storytelling in the digital environment, has been spreading rapidly, a true communicative system based on storytelling through multimedia, which enhances the expressive and communicative capabilities of traditional storytelling through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The most successful elements that characterize the digital storytelling are a storytelling that places the user at the center, who is asked questions through a narrative voice that continually requires an engagement interaction visual and sound effects, an appropriate soundtrack, images with strong emotional impact, and a pace that is never boring. The "Masterpieces of the Mann" project was thus created with the aim of experimenting with new forms of expression for the communication of museum heritage using digital tools: based on the potential of digital storytelling, about 30 educational videos have been produced which adopt relevant digital techniques for the digitization of assets, representation, illustration, animation and video-editing with the aim of enhancing the visitor experience, making it engaging through the emotional impact of the visual elements supporting the narrative and engaging through audience interaction with characters drawn as guides, who ask questions, encourage observation, stimulate hypothesis formulation and tell anecdotes, stories and trivia about the works in an informal way. The decision to use videos as the communicative medium is based on the desire to activate active learning and engagement during the in-person museum experience. The design of the four video tours, to be viewed in the presence of each asset, in the museum, using the visitor's simple personal smartphone, stems from the desire to develop the user's observation skills. Thus, the viewer can observe the videos near the museum asset, which graphically (and through digital animations) highlight its shapes, geometries, proportions and iconographic details to then be able to recognize them independently on the artwork. It is a path of learning first and then discovery that reinforces and receives narratives through the digital storytelling of the videos and consolidates the received notions with the physical and emotional experience of conscious observation and recognition. With the aim of ensuring the accessibility to the widest possible audience, the design of two pathways also took into consideration children with special needs, i.e., young visitors born with cognitive deficits, particularly autism spectrum disorders, for whom new ways of fruition in virtual reality were tested

Abstract: This volume aims to be a democratic and revolutionary tool, aimed at those who think it is important to practice medicine in a critical way and that the only teachers are the patients. This light but rigorous publication provides an introduction to the critical evaluation of scientific literature useful in everyday clinical practice. Starting with the clinical question, all aspects useful in clinical decision-making are addressed: the literature search, the interpretation and application of study results to the individual patient, the basic elements of cognitive decision-making. Each topic starts with a real-life clinical case in order to facilitate understanding and practical relevance of the topics covered. A glossary, an appendix for more technical topics and an extensive bibliography complete the volume. In the end, we think it will be interesting even for the most reactionary (or skeptical about "scientific evidence") physicians, also because ... it is Open Access!

Abstract: The monograph contains the results of research devoted to determining the vulnerability of passenger road transport in Poland by identifying the nature and scale of changes in transport accessibility and changes in the network traffic load in the event of a flood (with different probabilities of occurrence), conducted under the project number 2018/29/B/HS4/01020, financed by the National Science Center in Poland. In the course of the implementation of such formulated main goal of the study, an attempt was made to achieve a group of specific objectives of a cognitive, methodological and application character. The research was conducted mainly on the basis of data on the extent of flood risk areas in Poland and their development, as well as the road network and the development of its neighborhood. The publication may be of interest to researchers dealing with the geography of transport or - more broadly - with socio-economic geography and spatial management. It can also be helpful material for students of study programs that relate to the geography of transport, transport accessibility or spatial mobility in their curriculum. The content of the thesis covers issues that can be used by specialists in crisis management or road infrastructure management in crisis situations related to the occurrence of a flood

Abstract: Artificial intelligence is a technological innovation seemingly associated with new opportunities and risks. Does this technological change require a new - an innovative - law in order to deal with the risks associated with AI? Based on both an analysis of the technical framework of AI and the philosophical nature of this technology, the author examines this question in the context of criminal liability for technological products. This analysis is embedded in a holistic assessment of the responsibility structures for technical products; in particular the proposed AI act and propsed changes of product liability under civil law are taken into account

Abstract: With the increasing data volume today, various methods and techniques are needed to make data-based decisions. Machine learning, which is a subset of artificial intelligence and has been frequently used for this purpose in recent years, has achieved great success in a wide variety of fields, ranging from education to production, and health to logistics. The ability to learn is the most basic feature of intelligence, and the purpose of machine learning is to try to develop machines that have the same intelligence level as humans. Machine learning is not only a technology but also a field that brings together many disciplines, embraces a wide audience, including students, researchers, and professionals, and has been developing rapidly and carrying us into the future. Another main focus is to investigate the accuracy with which programmed computers and machines produce results. Thus, the theoretical knowledge within this field and the principles of the algorithms to be used in the systems have gradually advanced. The best way to obtain information about a subject is to look at it from all perspectives. For this reason, it is thought to be very important to understand and learn the theory, approaches, problems, algorithms, and assumptions of machine learning. This book aims to provide a comprehensive guide to readers who want to gain knowledge and application skills in machine learning, especially on how to work with supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms using the powerful capabilities of the Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio (classic) Platform. Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio (classic) platform helps users in the process of obtaining information from data by providing many conveniences to users in developing cloud-based machine learning applications and distributing them as a web service. This book will guide researchers working on machine learning in fields such as computer science, engineering, statistics, and social sciences. It will also be a guide for engineers who will develop a certain application with basic methods. The book, which consists of ten chapters including theoretical and empirical studies, aims to eliminate the lack of resources in the Turkish literature about the Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio (classic) platform

Abstract: Why human rights don't work In The Effluent Eye, Rosemary J. Jolly argues for the decolonization of human rights, attributing their failure not simply to state and institutional malfeasance but to the very concept of human rights as anthropocentric-and, therefore, fatally shortsighted. In an engaging mix of literary and cultural criticism, Indigenous and Black critique, and substantive forays into the medical humanities, Jolly proposes right-making in the demise of human rights. Using what she calls an "effluent eye," Jolly draws on "Fifth Wave" structural public health to confront the concept of human rights-one of the most powerful and widely entrenched liberal ideas. She builds on Indigenous sovereignty work from authors such as Robin Wall Kimmerer, Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, and Mark Rifkin as well as the littoral development in Black studies from Christine Sharpe, Saidiya Hartman, and Tiffany Lethabo King to engage decolonial thinking on a range of urgent topics such as pandemic history and grief; gender-based violence and sexual assault; and the connections between colonial capitalism and substance abuse, the Anthropocene, and climate change. Combining witnessed experience with an array of decolonial texts, Jolly argues for an effluent form of reading that begins with the understanding that the granting of "rights" to individuals is meaningless in a world compromised by pollution, poverty, and successive pandemics. Abstract: This book provides insights into the interplay between crisis, resilience, and innovation within news media. Examining how Norwegian news media adapted and innovated during the Covid-19 pandemic, it offers new knowledge on news organisations' resilience strategies and their ability to create value for themselves, their audiences, and for the broader society during times of unprecedented uncertainty. Through a diverse array of qualitative and quantitative methods, the research presented uncovers how crises serve as both opportunities for innovation and threats to journalism practices and businesses.Drawing on perspectives from journalism and media innovation studies, management and organisational research, and innovation theory, the empirical investigation identifies three overarching themes: the crisis as a catalyst for innovation, a critical test of resilience, and an amplifier of value creation. Through several empirical studies, we demonstrate how the Covid-19 pandemic prompted urgency- and ambition-driven innovation in Norwegian news media. This research showcases how organisations rapidly adapted to the crisis using digital tools, and how they introduced new services, amplifying economic and social value creation while navigating challenges to news workers' well-being.In conclusion, the theoretical perspectives on crisis, resilience, and innovation shed light on the transformative journey of Norway's news media during the Covid-19 crisis, offering valuable insights for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers alike.Mona K. Solvoll is associate professor at the School of Communication, Leadership and Marketing at Kristiania University College, Norway. Ragnhild Kr. Olsen is associate professor at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway. The research in the book originates from the "Media Innovation Through the Corona Crisis" project at the BI Norwegian Business School (2020-2021), funded by the Research Council of Norway

Abstract: The volume focuses on the political and economic relations between the Kingdoms of Naples and Sicily and the Dutch Republic in Eighteenth century. The starting point is the commercial treaty signed by the two States in 1753. Thanks to various Neapolitan and Dutch sources, the study reconstructs the political and commercial interests that underpinned the agreement, highlighting the importance of the relationships with Dutch Republic in Charles of Bourbon's "politica dei trattati". Through the analysis of the relations between a modest Mediterranean State and a mercantilist Power of the time (albeit in decline), the volume explores the Neapolitan "strategy" to find its own space amidst the clashes between the major commercial Powers of the period. By exanimating the impact of commercial treaty on the Dutch trades in Southern Italy, the book provides an initial approach to studying economic exchanges between the Dutch Republic and Naples. This lays the groundwork for a broader understanding of the relationships between Southern Italy and Northern Europe in the Eighteenth century, a topic on which much remains to be explored

Abstract: This book delves into the research-policy nexus as it relates to development in Africa. It does so by examining four country-cases - Botswana, Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya and Zambia - while referring to South Africa as a possible exemplar case. The book reaffirms that the majority of governments in Africa spend less than one per cent of their GDP on research and development (R&D) despite the commitment to raise their research funding levels contained in the Lagos Plan of Action (1980). Hence, reliance on external funding for research persists on the continent. To manage research engagements and public funds, Science Granting Councils (SGCs) have been established. These institutions are held accountable for how public funds are spent and how the research they fund contributes to the advancement of society.To-date, the SGCs and researchers have demonstrated in various ways how funded research contributes to the advancement of society. However, there appear to be differences in opinion amongst key stakeholders in terms of what constitutes research priorities as well as expectations in terms of the returns on research investments made. This book brings to the fore the importance of research and its outcome on societal development, and reveals the stake that African governments hold in the process. The book encourages African governments to show greater commitment to providing funding for research on the continent. This is critical if governments are to assume a lead role in the continent's development agenda. It would also set the stage for partnerships with other stakeholders, including industry and funding organisations. Researchers are also encouraged to work closely with the SGCs to ensure the valorisation of research products for societal benefit. This has a potential to unlock more funding for research in Africa which, in turn, would drive the development of the continent

Abstract: In December 2022, Japan announced it would drastically increase its defence budget by 2027. The decision came as a wake-up call for the whole region: Japan was gearing up for a world of heightened tensions and rivalry in the Indo-Pacific Region. This Report analyses the present and future of Japan's security and defence policies. Within the context of a rising China, Tokyo has broadened its defence ties with the US, India, Australia, and Taiwan. However, China remains its biggest trading partner, meaning Tokyo's policymakers are charged with the task and challenge of striking a balance between defence policies and business and trade relations with China

Abstract: Unveiling the physical properties of the Earth's ionosphere is crucial for the comprehension of the dynamic processes occurring within it across various spatial and temporal scales. This is essential for comprehending numerous phenomena associated with Space Weather. The ionosphere, composed of ions and electrons, responds to the initiation, intensification and evolution of magnetic and electric fields, potentially altering its physical properties and energy balance. These changes can significantly affect the propagation properties of electromagnetic signals passing through the ionosphere. In this context, the Special Issue "Ionosphere Monitoring with Remote Sensing Vol. II" seeks to advance our understanding of the ionosphere by utilising data from various facilities and established ionospheric models

Abstract: In the process of digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI), data protection and digital ethics are trending topics. However, they are rarely considered in conjunction even though these areas are inextricably linked. This volume, the first in a series, seeks to close this gap. Informational self-determination is an expression of a European understanding of values, particularly with regard to smart technologies and AI applications. In addition to socially relevant dimensions of data protection and digital ethics, the authors demonstrate the influence of networked technologies on the experience and manipulation of modern reality, digitalized childhoods being one of them. Further thematic highlights from the perspective of data protection illustrate the multifaceted nature of the interdisciplinary approach of this book which will be continued throughout the series. With contributions by Dr. Stefan Brink | Prof. Dr. Petra Grimm | Dr. Clarissa Henning | Prof. Dr. Tobias Keber | Dr. Nina Köberer | Mike Kuketz | Dr. Walter Krämer | Daniel Maslewski | Prof. Dr. Ricarda Moll | Dr. Julia-Maria Mönig

Abstract: This volume explores the discursive construction of debates around the topic of vaccination, with a particular focus on the hypothesis of a link between the MMR vaccine and autism. The research analyses the coverage of the debate in the British press up to 2019, through the tools of corpus-assisted discourse analysis and in light of the so-called "post-truth era". The analysis focuses on the construction of medico-scientific debates in the media, in particular on issues of newsworthiness and polyphony. The discursive representation of evidence and the (de)legitimation strategies of social actors interacting in the debate are then explored. A large part of the volume is also devoted to the topic of argumentative narratives and the evidential value of personal experience. Each chapter of the monograph illustrates a connection between these aspects of the MMR vaccine controversy and the Covid-19 pandemic situation

Abstract: Not only do interest groups lobby, but regions do too: This book re-examines federalism through the lenses of interest groups and lobbying research. It focuses on 'shared rule', a foundational pillar in federal theory that necessitates the active involvement and representation of subnational units in federal policymaking. Based on new and original data, the study illuminates how the 26 Swiss cantons make their voices heard at the federal level. It explores traditional federal institutions, such as second chambers, alongside professionalised tactics of intergovernmental lobbying. Furthermore, the book empirically analyses the conditions under which the cantons succeed in shaping federal policy and politics according to their preferences

Abstract: The conflict over the programmatic unity of youth welfare/youth assistance has run throughout the history of social pedagogy since the Reich Youth Welfare Act of 1922 until today. What is the relationship between youth welfare, youth work and the youth movement and thus between disciplining, emergency aid and democratic socialisation? This study traces the genesis of this problem, analyses the struggles of social movements, political and legal markers, and reform debates. Referring to current developments in education, it argues for the recalibration of the unity of youth welfare as democratic youth education for the 21st century

Abstract: Progressing social transformation goes hand in hand with considerable changes, e.g. in the relationships between humans, nature and technology, in social relations as well as in the relationship to (one's own) body. The publication focuses on traditional constants and new meanings of the body in a constantly dynamically changing world. From different disciplinary approaches, subjectivising perspectives of being-a-body as well as functional perspectives of having-a-body are discussed in relation to current questions of movement and sport pedagogical theory, empiricism and practice

Abstract: This book is the result of the First Ukulele International Conference (UIC 2021) - Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Performance, Composition, and Organology (December 3-4, 2021), the first academic event ever dedicated to the instrument. The edited volume collects selected essays and contributions by authors with different (or with multiple) professional backgrounds: researchers in the ukulele's cultural history, musicologists with scholarship in performance and instrumentality issues, composers (or composer-performers) of music for ukulele, performers engaged in scholarly research and in popularizing the instrument, and professionals involved in the technological innovation of the instrument. The purpose of this book is to provide a sample of possible questions related to the instrument, with the awareness that many others may only be fully formulated in future research. In addition to the general tenet of interdisciplinarity-crucial for addressing an instrument endowed with such high and intrinsic "plasticity"-the book presents a further challenge: extending research on the ukulele to research with the ukulele, namely understanding it as an instrument (in a more etymological sense), a scientific tool to investigate different topics in music-making

Abstract: Markov chains represent a classical topic of probability theory that has a large number of applications in different areas, including mathematics, computer science, physics, biology, natural science, economics and several others. Typical examples of Markovian models concern for instance the analysis and interpretation of DNA sequences, voice recognition and the design of procedures for analysis and browsing of the web. In computer science and in particular in the algorithmic area Markov chains have been used to introduce the so-called Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods, which allow us to design probabilistic approximation algorithms for solving NP-hard problems. This work presents Markov chains and their algorithmic applications in a mathematical style, with a didactic spirit. It mainly has educational purposes, and it is specifically designed for teaching these topics in Italian university courses at a master level

Abstract: Carl Bilfinger was a professor of public law at the universities of Halle, Heidelberg, and Berlin. From 1943 to 1945 and from 1949 to 1954 he was director of the Kaiser Wilhelm/Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. A companion and follower of Carl Schmitt since 1924, Bilfinger argued for an extensive interpretation of the presidential system of the Weimar Republic, the subsequent dictatorship, and National Socialism. This edition reconstructs Bilfinger's political biography on the basis of a wide range of sources. The published letters, texts, and documents, including a series of articles offering initial interpretations of his work, reveal Bilfinger's close personal and intellectual relationship with Schmitt. Abstract: How institutional and interpersonal policing have been central to worldmaking Policing is constitutive of colonial modernity: normalizing, internalizing, and legalizing anti-Black violence as the ongoing condition for white life and freedom. The result, Tia Trafford argues here, is a situation where we cannot practically experience or even imagine worlds free from policing. From the plantation to the prison, global apartheid, and pandemic control, this book examines why and how policing has become the most ingrained, commonsense-and insidious-way of managing our world

Abstract: Víctor Tau Anzoátegui (1933-2022) was one of the most outstanding legal historians in Argentina. From a very young age he chose to dedicate himself to historical research, forming and being part of the renewal of his discipline since the 1950s. Dr. Tau's academic career went beyond the borders of his native country and he became an international reference together with Antonio Manuel Hespanha, Bartolomé Clavero and Paolo Grossi. With them, among others, he shared and was part of the critical history of law. His book Casuismo y Sistema. Indagación histórica sobre el espíritu del Derecho Indiano is one of the many works of reference that reflected his enormous knowledge of the otherness of the law of past societies. This tribute book brings together outstanding researchers who, based on various postulates of Víctor Tau, face and continue the task carried out, not only by a historian of law, but also by a true master for several generations of historians

Abstract: Methodological, epistemic, and ontological borders have long prevented landscape and urban studies from engaging in transdisciplinary dialogue, sensuousness, and affect. "Researching Otherwise" uncovers possibilities for deploying sensory, collaborative, and restitutive methodological tools to craft spaces for producing knowledge from pluriversal worlds. These methods connect researchers and their objects of investigation in new ways to empower restitutive and regenerative futures "otherwise."Original contributions stem from research methods based on drawing, photography, sounding and listening, filmmaking, walking, and cartography. They reveal journeys of specialists and their companions while navigating through multi-species walks, engaging in cinematic and performative ways of knowing, submerging in ocean worlds, unsilencing bank vaults and troubled architectural histories, and exploring collaborative ethnographic investigations with refugees

Abstract: Do general anti-avoidance rules around the world show, despite their different design, more similarities than it seems at first? In order to answer this question, the author examines the law of Hong Kong, Singapore and the People's Republic of China as a counterpart to Western legal systems and reviews them using a methodological approach developed by Christine Osterloh-Konrad in her work "Tax Avoidance". As a result, it is shown that Osterloh-Konrad's model is universally applicable to the various designs of general anti-avoidance provisions. At the same time, a comprehensive insight into the tax systems of various East-Asian jurisdictions is given

Abstract: Whistleblowing, known as "whistleblowing", is essential in the fight against corruption, as whistleblowers identify and report illicit conduct, thus contributing to state integrity and the public good. In several States corruption reached its highest level leading to significant economic losses, in this work we highlight that whistleblowing becomes a vital tool, uncovering a large percentage of frauds. Therefore, it is crucial to implement effective whistleblowing channels and protect whistleblowers to fight corruption and promote an ethical and transparent public administration. This system not only seeks to prevent crimes, but also to correct bad governance in public administration. The State should seek practical strategies to protect those who report improper practices, because their courage contributes to the welfare of the public interest. Whistleblowers become a fundamental piece in the fight against corruption and in the promotion of an ethical and transparent administration

Abstract: The prepared scientific monograph entitled The importance of social innovations in the knowledge-based economy in the context of footwear sector solutions is an attempt to further exemplify social innovations by identifying real links between social need and a specific good, service, method and process, in the context of solutions used in the footwear industry. Poland is one of the leading European footwear manufacturers, ranking 7th in terms of production volume in the EU, with a market share of 2.5%. In addition, strong competition is observed in the industry, which is conducive to the emergence of new innovations. The work contains theoretical and practical references to innovations in the industry, such as examples of modifications of footwear materials that have been used in business practice, and their measurable effect is to improve the comfort of using footwear. The authors refer to the environmental aspects of innovation, indicating the directions of utilization of production residues of the footwear and tanning industry, including composites, granules, and biostimulants for plants. The subject matter taken up in the monograph is an important contribution to the development of further scientific research covering the footwear industry and its importance in developing social innovations in Poland and the world. Based on the obtained research results and statistical data analysis, we attempted to outline the prospects for the development of social innovations in the footwear industry until 2050. The book can be an interesting study for practitioners and theoreticians, particularly for scientists representing disciplines such as economics and finance, management sciences, materials engineering, or entrepreneurs looking for opportunities to finance innovation in various areas. Publication was funded by the state budget under the program of the Ministry of Education and Science called "Science for Society" (Poland), project title "The impact of footwear design, materials and proper fit on the health of children and adolescents", project number NdS/539367/2021/2021, amount of funding 796 964,00 PLN total value of the project 796 964,00 PLN

Abstract: This volume brings together most of the papers presented at the IV Encuentro Hispano-Luso de Historiadores del Derecho / IV Encontro hispano-luso de historiadores do Direito held at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona in June 2022. After a brief presentation by the editorial coordinator and the inaugural lecture by the prestigious Finnish professor Heikki Pihlajamäki, the twenty-five chapters deal with magnetic legal aspects of the Iberian territories in the middle, modern and, above all, contemporary ages, until the end of the twentieth century. Special emphasis is placed on jurisdictional conflicts, insurance doctrine in the 'ius commune' period, judicial experiences and figures, and the construction and crisis of the liberal state. It is fascinating to see how the work of Spanish and Portuguese legal historians is progressing in parallel, each time better connected, but with singular focuses of interest. The vitality of the discipline is well portrayed, in a progressively global scenario

Abstract: This open access volume of LIDC contributions focuses on how competition and intellectual property laws incorporate sustainability objectives. Businesses are increasingly embracing sustainability objectives, driven by the international community. Although competition and intellectual property law are certainly not the only tools for addressing sustainability issues, they can play a role in moving toward a more sustainable society. Sustainability has gained prominence in competition law in all jurisdictions covered in this volume. The contributions focus on classic questions such as whether sustainability agreements restrict competition and, if so, to what extent businesses can be exempted on efficiency grounds. The papers also raise a number of questions, in particular concerning the treatment of non-market efficiencies. The soft law and case law produced by competition authorities are examined, and the leadership role of some competition authorities in the field - from advocacy to policy papers and sustainability guidelines - is highlighted. The authors call for more individual guidance to provide enhanced transparency and clarity to industry, advisors and society at large on sustainability issues, with guidelines or sustainability-related block exemptions providing even greater legal certainty. With regard to intellectual property, the contributions examine various important issues, such as the need for intellectual property rights to remain technology-neutral, ways to promote the use of sustainable technologies and incentives for licensing, and ways to promote the dissemination of sustainable technologies, including compulsory licensing, cross-licensing, open source or FRAND licensing, and replacing the destruction of counterfeit goods with recycling. The papers also discuss greenwashing and how it can be addressed through revisions to trademarks and related rights

Abstract: Preservation in libraries is concerned with developing policies and practices that maximize the longevity of collections by minimizing the impact of the natural effects of time, the elements, and other threats and with mastering techniques for repairing damage when it occurs. Each theological library should ensure that its staff understands how to mitigate common risks and to respond effectively to problems when they do arise

Abstract: The externalization of animals' genetic potential is determined by a number of external factors, of which feeding plays a major role. Animal nourishment is one of the most important levers in ensuring the efficiency of animal production due to both the high share of feed costs in the total cost of products and the influence this has on the growth, reproduction, and health of animals, as well as the quality of products obtained from them. This particular field is one of the most dynamic in the field of husbandry sciences due to the continuous acquisition and use of numerous results obtained from studies on energy metabolism and nutrients, related to the composition of feed and its influence on animal products. This is also due to the great advances made in genetics with the creation of new types of animals with increasing productive potential and different food requirements. The following Special Issue is dedicated to interdisciplinary studies on animal nutrition, physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, reproduction, and breeding technologies. The articles contained herein cover a wide range of topics related to feed quality, the influence of food on production levels, the quality of production, and their influence on animal health

Abstract: Computational Intelligence (CI) is the theory, design, application, and development of biologically and linguistically motivated computational paradigms. CI mainly includes three parts: neural networks, fuzzy systems, and evolutionary computation. CI has been widely used to solve complex problems in various domains, such as image processing, point cloud processing, and classification. Due to the great advantages of CI in dealing with practical application problems, more and more researchers have paid attention to the theoretical research and application of CI in recent years. This reprint reports the latest research on applications of computational intelligence. Many novel and interesting methods are introduced, which provide guiding significance for the further development of computational intelligence

Abstract: This monograph addresses the question: what was the role played by the judiciary in the reforms undertaken by the Second Spanish Republic? To answer this question, it analyses numerous documentary sources concerning the way in which the courts and tribunals interpreted some of the major regulatory and institutional changes promoted by the Republican regime within the framework of the social and democratic constitutionalism of the interwar period. The study of a sample of the separation of Church and State, regional autonomy, the abuse of government detentions and the new law on vagrants and thugs makes it possible to identify a profound conflict between the judicial apparatus and the incipient constitutional state

Abstract: This book is a casuistic analysis of the marriage nullity suit for incapacity to consent filed in 1547 -after 20 years of marriage- by a powerful royal official, Juan Vázquez de Molina, married to Doña Antonia del Águila, noble, rich, lady of vassals. It is about the way in which the mentecaptio, the fatuitas, compromises the existence of the marriage sacrament. It is also a contribution to the clarification of the place and characterization of the "bobos", "the meek and simple madmen" in canon law, in Aristotelian psychology (scientia de anima) and in medicine, in mid-sixteenth century Spain

Abstract: This volume includes the proceedings of a conference held at the Department of Historical Studies of the University of Milan and realised within the framework of the PRIN 2017 project Italian Scholars in the face of the Race Laws (1938-1945): Ancient Historians and Jurists. The conference favoured the dialogue between specialists of various backgrounds and aimed mainly at exposing the complex relations between the political use (or, rather, abuse) of ancient history by fascism, together with the theoretical aberrations that led to the formulation of the Manifesto degli scienziati razzisti, with specific focus on anti-Semitism. Despite the diversity of approaches, the essays help to clarify how the heritage of the ancient world was connected to the racial issue with a double perspective: on the one hand, the anxious search for illustrious roots for modern anti-Semitism; on the other hand, the alleged and pretentious primacy of the 'Italic race' over other nations, by virtue of its glorious past. We hope that this choral work will contribute to a deeper interpretation of the cultural background that saw the deadly virus of racism take root in Italy

Abstract: This compilation is part of the Individual, Family, and Society Collection. The title is Interdisciplinary Approaches to Experiences on Social Violence, Pandemic, and Adolescence and it is not monothematic. Here, writings of students, graduates, and professors from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Health, and Well-being of the Catholic University Luis Amigó are published, texts that are the result of deliberative processes carried out in environments for intellectual interaction and are also the consequence of various strategies aimed at stimulating writing. In this sense, the reader will find a diversity of perspectives typical of the Social Sciences, diverse, multiple texts, but without the inflexibility of rigid unity

Abstract: Museums and exhibitions were among the first venues where films could be experienced in public. After cinema had become the leading screening venue, there were calls for the establishment of autonomous film museums in various countries. It is remarkable to note how many film museum concepts were discussed.Film exhibitions in museums and debates about creating a permanent film museum reached a peak in the 1920s and early 1930s. In the context of temporary commercial exhibitions, museographic methods were implemented, possible exhibits found, and presentation methods explored. Both the concepts of the exhibitions in Europe and the USA and the debates were determined by film theoretical assumptions and the film culture of the time. Science museums initiated their own film sections within the permanent exhibitions. While there was a plurality of methods between the institutions, they were mutually influenced through cross-border networking. The exhibition for the 60th anniversary of cinema exported the Cinémathèque français' concept of a film museum internationally in the 1950s, so that visitors in Munich and Berlin also had the chance to understand a certain type of exhibition associated with the notion of a film museum. The German Film Museum in Frankfurt am Main was created in the knowledge of the canonised position of the Paris institution, but at the same time took up the history of film exhibitions
