    Abstract: Vor der aufgebahrten, mit Tüchern verhüllten Leiche der Häuptlingsfrau Bäya finden Hüpftänze und Gesänge zu Ehren der Toten statt. Nachdem das Grab ausgehoben ist, bringen drei Leichenträger die Verstorbene zu Grab. Die Verwandten folgen zur Grabstätte. Das Bestatten wird durch eine Matte den Blicken der Trauernden entzogen. Danach wird das Grab verschlossen.
    Abstract: The deceased is honored through dance, music, and elegies, and then is buried. The burial takes place behind a mat, then the grave is closed.

    Abstract: In einem Manufaktur-Großbetrieb in Ouagadougou werden kleine Figuren aus Wachs modelliert, mit Lehmbrei ummantelt, getrocknet und an einem offenen Holzfeuer gebrannt, wobei das Wachs ausgeschmolzen wird. Aus verschiedenen Altmetallen stellt man in einem Schmelztiegel über offenem Feuer und mit Hilfe eines Schlauchgebläses die Gußspeise her, die in die Model gefüllt wird. Nach Erkalten werden die Model zerschlagen, die Figuren gereinigt und mit Lackfarben bemalt.
    Abstract: Shows the production of small figures using the lost-wax method. Wax models are shaped and covered with damp clay. After the clay has dried the models are fired, which melts the wax away. Previously smelted metal is poured into the remaining cavity of the mold. After cooling, the form is destroyed and the molded figure is decorated with enamel paint.

    Abstract: Es werden Kriegstänze mit gemimten Kampfhandlungen unter Voranschreiten des Kriegsführers und ein Scheinkampf zwischen zwei Kriegerscharen mit je einem Vorkämpfer vorgeführt. Zum Schluß führen zwei mit Bogen, Beil, Schild und Helm bewaffnete Krieger die Kampfesweise beim Einzelkampf vor.
    Abstract: Presents three forms of war dances. The first is performed with invisible weapons and drum accompaniment and is the same dance used before the departure to actual battle and after the victorious return of the soldiers. The second scene is a mock combat between two troops of warriors. At the end of that performance two warriors equipped with bow, hatchet, shield and helmet demonstrate the procedures used in hand-to-hand combat.

    Abstract: A Kasena chief arranges a harvest festival in the style of the Middle Ages and feudal princes. The departure and homecoming of the ruler are carried out with much pomp, similar to the leaving and return of troops in battle. Dances performed therefore include war dances as well as cultic and entertaining dances.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Dio schnitzen ein Maskenschnitzer und sein Gehilfe mit Dechsel, Axt und Messer die Ornamente in eine Schmetterlings- und in eine Antilopenmaske, deren Rohformen aus Kapokbaumstämmen im geheimen im Busch geschnitzt worden sind. Anschließend wird das Anrühren von Farbe (schwarz, rot, weiß) und das Bemalen der Masken gezeigt.
    Abstract: The raw forms for two masks have been cut from tree trunks secretly in the bush. Now a carver and his assistant shape the wood into a butterfly mask and an antelope mask. The dye is mixed and the masks are painted.

    Abstract: Zwei Tänzerinnen versetzen sich im Tempelhof in Trance und tanzen den exorzistischen Sanghiyang. Der Tanz wird von dem Ketjak der Männer begleitet. Zum Schluß tanzen die Tänzerinnen über der schwelenden Glut des Feuers. Sie werden ins Haus getragen, dort mit Wasser besprengt und aus der Trance geholt. Aufgenommen mit 16 B/s; Vorführgeschw. 18 B/s.
    Abstract: The film shows how the Sanghyang dancing girls go into a trance, and while in a trance condition, dance the excorcistic Sanghyang. The dance accompanied by the traditional Ketjak of the men, who while deeply angrossed in performing the sitting dance, strive together with the Sanghyang dancing girls to ward-off threatening evil.

Mit Unterstützung einer Trommlergruppe finden Trauertänze statt, an denen sich große Gruppen der Trauernden beteiligen.

    Abstract: Nach den Beileidsbezeugungen der Trauergäste vor den Hinterbliebenen finden lang andauernde Trauertänze statt, in deren Mittelpunkt der Sohn der Verstorbenen und dessen Frau stehen. Die Bestattung in einem Hain nahe dem Dorf findet ohne die Verwandten der Toten statt. Zwei Wochen später wird eine Nachfeier mit Hirsebier veranstaltet, bei der die weiblichen Hinterbliebenen gewaschen und kahlgeschoren werden. Schließlich wird die Hütte der Verstorbenen verbrannt.
    Abstract: Shows excerpts of the Shangama mourning ritual at the death of a member of the tribe. Hour-long dances are held to honor the deceased and include the emotional movement of bereaved survivors as well as the sympathy shown towards them by guests. A segment of the dance is a pantomine illustrating the demons of sickness being driven away. The conclusion of the actual burial occurs with the burning of the hut where the deceased once lived.

Totenasche wird eingeholt, in Bananensuppe geschüttet und von Angehörigen getrunken. Gäste umkreisen den Dorfplatz, einige schnupfen Yópopulver, tanzen um die Dorflichtung, kriechen durch mehrere Dorfhäuser. Gegenseitiges Schlagen und Ansingen. Ausgabe von Nahrungsgeschenken an die Gäste.

    Abstract: Durch Einatmen von Wacholderrauch versetzt sich ein Dayal (Schamane) von Danyor in Trance. Er hält nach Geistern Umschau, ahmt ihren Tanz nach und singt, während die Zuschauer lärmen und die Musik spielt. Eine Ohnmacht beendet die Séance.
    Abstract: A shaman dances while under the trance-like effect of juniper smoke. He is able to see spirits, and he imitates their dances. At times the shaman stops to listen to the musical instruments as the spirits speak to him through those instruments. The seance ends when the shaman swoons, falls, and awakens from the trance.

Sie sind in rote Fibergewänder gehüllt, ihre hölzernen, bemalten Aufsatzmasken stellen Tiere dar: Antilope, Pferd, Affe, Hornschnabelvogel. Die Tänzer ahmen die Bewegungen der Tiere nach. Es tritt auch eine lange Brettermaske auf.
    Abstract: Members of the mask dance society perform to the musical accompaniment of drums and wooden flutes. The dancers are covered in red garments and their painted headdresses represent various animals whose movements the performers strive to imitate. A long board with symbolic figures on it has a moralistic meaning.

    Abstract: Unter Aufsicht ihres Meisters stellen mehrere Männer im Dorf Tanyanyia einen Armring für junge Frauen her: Von einem Elefantenzahn wird eine Scheibe abgesägt und mit Querbeil und Messer bearbeitet. Zum Schluß wird das fertige Werkstück vom Meister unter Musikbegleitung in feierlicher Prozession zum Ahnenaltar gebracht und dort den Ahnen vorgewiesen.

Aufbereitung des Tons: Schlämmen, Magern (Baryt) und Kneten (mit Maschine und Hand), Formen eines Ziertellers, eines Henkelkruges und einer Ochtruper Nachtigall (Trillerflöte). Bemalen, Glasieren, Ornamentieren. Brennen verschiedener Tonwaren in einem elektrischen Brennofen. Herausnehmen und Prüfen nach dem Brand.
    Abstract: Clay is cut in a clay-pit and transported on a two-wheeled cart to Ochtrup, where the clay is then stored in a bricklined pit, to "soak". Before processing it is kneaded, first mechanically and then by hand. The master-potter shapes a plate, which is then primed, coated with paint, and finally glazed. The same work procedure is demonstrated on a jug, with the addition of the shaping and attaching of the handle. The film also shows the manufacture of "Ochtrup Nightingales", small, clay warbler-whistles, and finally the baking of various earthenware in an electric kiln.

Der Rand erhält Ritzornamente. Nach dem Trocknen werden die Gefäße im Brennhaufen gebrannt und vor dem Verkauf einmal zum Kochen benutzt.

    Abstract: Um neue Mitglieder in den nur Frauen zugänglichen Bundu-Orden aufzunehmen, wird im Busch ein Ordensdorf errichtet, in das die Buschgeister durch einen Maskentanz geholt werden. Im Hauptdorf zelebrieren Ordensangehörige Ahnenopfer und zeigen Tanzproben. Das Abschlußfest besteht aus Tänzen und einem Umzug der Frauen durch das Hauptdorf und dem Auftritt der Bundu-Geister im Ordensdorf. Auch dieser Teil der Zeremonie ist von Tänzen der Frauen begleitet. Aufgenommen mit 16 B/s; Vorführgeschw. 18 B/s.
    Abstract: To adopt new members in the Bundu order, which is restricted to women only, an order village is erected in the bush and the bush spirits are called in with a mask dance. In the main village the members of the order sacrifice to the ancestors and show dance rehearsals. The final feast consists of dances and a procession of the women in the main village and the performance of the Bundu spirits in the village of the order. This part of the ceremony is also accompanied by women's dances.Recording speed 16 fps, projection speed 18 fps.

    Abstract: Zwei Männer stellen mit Macheten lanzettförmige Pfeilspitzen aus halbierten Bambusstücken her, spitzen sie an und bearbeiten sie fein mit einem geschärften Zahnmesserchen. Die Spitzen werden mit Urucú rot gefärbt und mit mäanderförmigen Mustern versehen.
    Abstract: A piece of bamboo is roughly cut with a machete. The fine carving of the arrowhead is done with a small-toothed knife. After the arrowhead has been shaped correctly, it is painted with two different shades of red dye.

Skarifikation der acht- bis zehnjährigen Mädchen anläßlich des Ramadanfestes. Turnier mit Lederschild und Speer. Salzgewinnung und Verkauf auf einem Markt des Sudan.
    Abstract: Daily life of the Baele (Bideyat). Ramadan: blacksmith playing the drum, dance, prayer, fantasia of the horse and camel riders, watering, painting huts, digging wells, men making clothes. Blacksmith performing a sand oracle, his wife as a potter, blacksmiths hunting gazelles, fire drilling, hairdressing. Scarification of the 8 to 10 year old girls on the occasion of Ramadan. Tournament with leather shield and spear. Salt production and sale on a Sudanese market.
