    Abstract: Ein Mann schlägt mit der Axt einen morschen Baumstamm auf. Zusammen mit seiner Frau holt er die Larven mit Stäbchen aus den Löchern; auch einzelne Käfer werden mitgenommen. Im Lager werden sie in Blätterpackungen auf Glut geröstet und verzehrt. =e A man cuts the bark away from a rotten tree-stem with an axe, and larvae of the longicorn beetle come into view. The man and his wife take the larvae out of their holes with little sticks and collect them in basket. In the camp the insects are wrapped in leaves, roasted and eaten.

    Abstract: Im Wald geschlagene Hölzer werden zugerichtet und mit Lianen zu einem trichterförmigen Gerät mit langer Stange zusammengebunden. Frauen graben damit tief im Boden sitzende Esouma-Wurzeln aus. Im Lager werden einige Stücke in der Glut des Feuers geröstet.
    Abstract: A man named Yassi makes a tool djo. For this purpose he requires a stick about six metres long and four flat pieces of wood which he splits off from a suitable tree in the forest. In the camp he shapes the pieces of wood, tapers one end off to a point. He then splits one end of the long stick into four pieces, inserts the pieces of wood into the openings, and ties the whole so as to form a funnel. Two girls then take the finished tool and go out into the forest. They discover an esouma plant, which has a root going up to six metres into the ground, and they dig out the root piece by piece by use of the funnel. Back in the camp the girls prepare the roots to eat.

    Abstract: Ein kleiner Wasserlauf wird durch mehrere rasch errichtete Dämme aufgestaut, die Staubecken werden ausgeschöpft, die zurückbleibenden Fische mit einem Buschmesser erschlagen. Einige Frauen nehmen ein ausgiebiges Bad. Die gesäuberten Fische werden im Lager in Blätterpackungen in der Glut des Herdfeuers geröstet und verzehrt.
    Abstract: Women, girls, and children leave a Pygmy camp to go fishing. Arriving at a small river they select an approprate place where they set up two enclosures. They then scoop out the water confined by the enclosures, perceiving a fish, they kill it by a stroke of their knives. A great stir is caused by a cat fish giving electric shocks. When the women have fished out the backwater, they bathe in a small river, then they scale and gut the caught fish. In the camp the fish are wrapped in leaves, roasted and eaten.

    Abstract: Zwei Männer aus Bisha-ashi-teri sammeln Rindenspäne der zur Curare-Bereitung verwendeten Pflanzen. Im Dorf werden zunächst Giftpfeilspitzen aus Palmholzsplittern hergestellt, dann werden die Rindenspäne mit heißem Wasser überbrüht. Mit dem curarehaltigen Wasser werden die über einem Feuer befestigten Pfeilspitzen mehrmals bestrichen. Wenn das Wasser verdampft und das Gift an den Spitzen eingedickt ist, werden diese in einem Bambusköcher aufbewahrt.
    Abstract: Two men detach bark shavings from the plants used for extracting curare and bring them wrapped in leaves to the village. There arrow tips are made from palm slivers. Hot water is poured upon the shavings in a funnel made of leaves, and liquid curare drops and collects in a half gourd. The arrow tips, hardened over the fire, are smeared several times with the curare-poison. When the water has evaporated and the poison applied to the tips has become hard, the tips are put in a bamboo quiver where they will be taken out for use and inserted in the arrow-shafts.
