Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication describes the big phases in a business integration project. First, we discuss the planning and system design phase for a business integration infrastructure that should be able to support several business integration projects. When the planning and design is complete, we discuss the implementation of several run-time engines of a WebSphere Business Integration Server V4.2.2 implementation. We also cover the implementation steps for a development environment and an administration environment. The next phase is the development and testing of a business integration solution that can be deployed within the infrastructure. The integration solution combines the powers of the three run-time engines of WebSphere Business Integration Server V4.2.2, providing for human interaction, straight-through processing, and message brokering and aggregation. The last phase of a business integration project is the process of moving the solution to production and determining how to manage this solution, addressing such issues as how to stop and start components in a coordinated way, and where to find answers for run-time problems. The book ends with a discussion about performance tuning that is focused on WebSphere InterChange Server V4.2.2.

Abstract: Scheduling is generally considered as the nucleus of the data center, because the orderly, reliable sequencing and management of process execution is an essential part of IT management. IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS is the IBM strategic product used in many large-to-midsized customer environments, responsible for scheduling critical batch applications. Therefore, the performance of Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS is one of the important factors that affect the overall satisfaction from the IT services for these companies. This IBM Redbooks publication covers the techniques that can be used to improve performance of Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS (including end-to-end scheduling). There are many factors that might affect the performance of any subsystem. In this book, we confine ourselves to those things that are internal to Tivoli Workload Scheduler, or can be easily verified and modified, and are likely to apply to the majority of Tivoli Workload Scheduler customer sites. Although this book is aimed at those very large installations with a batch load of 100,000 or more jobs per day, it will also be relevant to installations with a smaller batch workload who are suffering from a shrinking batch window, or those who are trying to maximize the throughput on their existing hardware, or both. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: Integrating distributed business applications is no easy task. Managing a heterogeneous distributed real-time environment is equally challenging. Integrated business environments can process huge volumes of messages per day. Messages are published, routed, transformed and consumed. The integrated environment has to deal with exception handling, performance bottlenecks, and changes in the participating systems. Components are distributed across different machines in different locations. A Business Integration Management System addresses these requirements and provides the best approach or set of approaches that can be followed to manage an integrated business environment. This IBM Redbooks publication is a case study of a real-life, business process, re-engineering exercise. We follow the pilot phase of this exercise from the design of a solution to modeling of the complex business processes, building these processes, and deploying them to a run-time environment. We also address many of the issues that surround an undertaking such as this and follow up on the success of the pilot.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication provides information related to the viability of Linux as a client platform. It targets technical personnel who are involved in evaluating Linux as a possible client platform. It also targets administrators and support personnel who are responsible for supporting client systems. This book can also be helpful to anyone who is evaluating the potential of using Linux for enterprise client systems. However, the key focus is on environments where OS/2 is currently used. Many enterprises have been using OS/2 as a stable platform for critical enterprise client applications. However, as those enterprises look to the future, they look for a platform on which they can build a strategy that is open, standards-based, secure, and provides a cost-effective solution. Linux has become successful as a server platform in many of these same enterprises. It comes as no surprise that these enterprises also want to evaluate the possibility of including Linux for many of their client systems. This book describes platform and functional considerations for choosing Linux as a client platform. It examines techniques and facilities for administering Linux clients, coexistence of Linux clients with other platforms, and a technique to easily install Linux clients based on the well-known OS/2-based CID methodology. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication (along with its companion volume On demand Operating Environment: Managing the Infrastructure, SG24-6634), provides an insight into the kind of Operating Environment required to support an on demand business. It provides an overview of the architecture of an on demand Operating Environment and describes in detail the components that are required to create business flexibility through integration. To meet the business needs of being responsive, variable, focused, and resilient, an on demand Operating Environment must be integrated, autonomic, virtualized, and open. Though these attributes are all interrelated, this book focuses on the integration component as the key enabler of business flexibility. A complete on demand Operating Environment is a vision and a goal that many enterprises aspire to reach. However, it is not something that will be attained overnight or by installing a specific set of products. It is something that will be reached through a step-wise progression. This book provides descriptions of several approaches that one can choose to start implementing pieces of an on demand Operating Environment today. Which approach is right for the reader will depend on their specific business environment and their immediate needs. Our objective is to help the reader better understand what an on demand Operating Environment is and how they can take steps today to start putting one in place. This book does not go into detailed implementation plans for each technology or product it references, but rather provides a level of information sufficient for the reader to start building a strategy and architecture best suited for their needs. Product-specific details can be obtained from product documentation and product-related redbooks.

Abstract: The beginning of the new century sees the data center with a mix of work, hardware, and operating systems previously undreamed of. Today’s challenge is to manage disparate systems with minimal effort and maximum reliability. People experienced in scheduling traditional host-based batch work must now manage distributed systems, and those working in the distributed environment must take responsibility for work running on the corporate OS/390 system. This IBM Redbooks publication considers how best to provide end-to-end scheduling using IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler Version 8.2, both distributed (previously known as Maestro) and mainframe (previously known as OPC) components. In this book, we provide the information for installing the necessary Tivoli Workload Scheduler 8.2 software components and configuring them to communicate with each other. In addition to technical information, we consider various scenarios that may be encountered in the enterprise and suggest practical solutions. We describe how to manage work and dependencies across both environments using a single point of control. We believe that this book will be a valuable reference for IT specialists who implement end-to-end scheduling with Tivoli Workload Scheduler 8.2.

Abstract: IBM WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services (HATS) provides tools to quickly and easily extend your legacy green-screen applications to the Web. HATS makes your 3270 and 5250 applications available as Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) through Web browsers. It also converts your host screens to a Web look and feel. Using HATS, you can improve the workflow and navigation of your host applications without any access or modification to source code. HATS has a development component called HATS Studio, which runs in WebSphere Studio. There is no specialized HATS runtime server. All of the necessary runtime information is deployed into an Enterprise Archive (EAR) file and runs in WebSphere Application Server. This IBM Redbooks publication helps you to tailor and configure the new features that are included with HATS V5. Examples and usage scenarios demonstrate how to implement many of the new features and functions, along with those that were present in previous releases of HATS.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication examines business process integration using Business Process Choreographer to build solutions that help to streamline the supply chain process. We provide a sample scenario that integrates business processes to streamline a supply chain showing how suppliers and customers can use global repositories to synchronize data. The sample scenario discussed in this publication was initially implemented using WebSphere Application Server Enterprise Process Choreographer to aggregate and transform supplier product data. Data is then published to a global repository using the WebSphere Web Services Gateway, and also loaded to a catalog that uses a WebSphere Commerce portal. We take this existing scenario and detail how to migrate the business processes to run on WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation V5.1. As part of this migration effort we describe how to use WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition V5.1 as the development environment for process migration. The migrated sample uses Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) processes. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: The IBM Grid Toolbox can assist enterprises that deploy, manage, and control grid computing, as well as developers who create products that assist in managing and deploying grids. This grid-enabling toolkit contains standardized development code, much of which was harvested from the open source community, plus an added database and run-time environment. This IBM Redbooks publication is designed to give the reader a comprehensive view of the IBM Grid Toolbox. As the IBM Grid Toolbox is designed in a layered approach, we describe the product by introducing each underlying layer until the whole ecosystem is revealed. The product significantly leverages open standards in the grid computing world, so we show how the IBM Grid Toolbox complements and enhances these standards for the development and deployment of grid services and applications.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication provides a first look at the Solution Installation capability that is a key component of the IBM Autonomic Computing initiative. Autonomic computing technologies enable complex computing systems to be self-configuring, self-healing, self-optimizing, and self-protecting. One aspect of this is the ability to automate the change management processes associated with deploying and managing software required for business solutions. The Solution Installation technologies that are described are evolving and will be enhanced over time. This publication provides the reader with an opportunity to understand the underlying concepts and facilities. This publication is based on Version 1.2 of the Solution Installation toolkit and describes both architectural concepts as well as specific examples that apply to the current version. We attempt to make clear when a key architectural concept is not fully implemented at this time. Readers of this book will gain an understanding of the basic concepts, and how the architecture described will provide business value as it becomes fully implemented and utilized by IBM and other software vendors. Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication covers the process of converting a PSSP cluster to a CSM cluster. It examines the different tools, utilities, documentation and other resources available to help the system administrator move a system from PSSP to CSM. It also examines the different paths a customer can take to achieve this transition and illustrates these different paths with step-by-step transition scenarios of actual clustered systems. This book also makes recommendations about which procedures are most suitable for different types of customer environments (high performance technical computing, server consolidation, business intelligence, etc.) and points out the relative advantages and disadvantages of the different procedures, tools, and methods. Customers will use the working knowledge presented in this book to plan and accomplish the transition of their own clustered systems from PSSP to CSM. Are you using GPFS? This transition book covers a number of GPFS transition methods, each with its own recommendations, GPFS cluster types, advantages versus disadvantages, and step-by-step scenarios. It also shows a method of moving GPFS storage between two clusters, which could be used during hardware transition or upgrades.

Abstract: Security is the hottest topic in the current Web-centric computing environment. This issue becomes the single largest concern for IT professionals who are stakeholders for Web applications, such as administrators, programmers, and users. In this IBM Redbooks publication, we discuss this security issue with the implementation of IBM WebSphere Portal Extend for Multiplatforms in an IBM Lotus collaborative environment. This discussion is scenario-based and aims to assist in the deployment of WebSphere Portal with Lotus Collaborative Components in a secure implementation. We describe several degrees of security, noting their advantages and disadvantages. The primary goal of this scenario is to have a WebSphere Portal server with Lotus Team Workplace (formerly called QuickPlace) and Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing (formerly called Sametime) environment set up and running securely. We discuss proxy authentication with IBM Tivoli Access Manager for e-business Version 5.1 and discuss the use of various identity providers, such as IBM Tivoli Directory Server, Domino LDAP, and Microsoft Active Directory.

Abstract: Building on the cool ideal, this IBM® IBM Redbooks publication describes V5 enhancements to many of the TCP/IP applications. The two book predecessors, combined, have been downloaded over 97,000 times: for V3, Cool Title About the AS/400 and Internet, SG24-4815-01, and V4 TCP/IP for AS/400: More Cool Things Than Ever, SG24-5190-00. Both of these extremely popular books are “aggregators” — a place to bring together many different technologies all in one place to have a common theme; teach the basics. That is, teach what the functions can do, define scenarios, and then implement the scenarios in a how-to fashion. Many of the topics covered in those earlier books, such as HTTP, Digital Certificates, and even TCP/IP have grown to the point now that they require their own Redbooks™ . In this book, we cover Telnet, FTP, IPP, NTP, SMTP, and making VPN connections with the iSeries™ , to and from the Internet. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: DFSMSrmm is the IBM tape management system for OS/390 and z/OS platforms. As part of DFSMS, DFSMSrmm is completely integrated into the IBM storage management strategy. This allows an easier installation and maintenance, as well as standard interfaces with other systems components, such as DFSMSdfp and DFSMShsm. DFSMSrmm provides a simple and flexible tape management environment, with support for all tape technologies, including IBM automated tape libraries, manual tapes, and other tape libraries. This IBM Redbooks publication is written for people who are planning to convert from CA-1 to DFSMSrmm. We have designed this book to help you with all aspects of the conversion, from the early planning stage through implementation and customization of DFSMSrmm into your production system. We provide details on the differences between DFSMSrmm and CA-1 and compare the terminology, data, and functions. We explain how to use the IBM-supplied sample conversion programs, validate the converted data, and prepare it for use in a production environment. Working samples that are ready for use both during and after conversion are included.

Abstract: The WebSphere Voice Server product is a member of the IBM WebSphere software family. It provides a platform that enables the creation of voice applications through industry standards such as VoiceXML and Java. The WebSphere Voice Server facilitates the deployment of voice applications by interfacing with voice standards such as Cisco VoIP, IBM DirectTalk, and Dialogic platforms. It further aids the development of these applications by providing development tools. This IBM Redbooks publication discusses the functionality of WebSphere Voice Server in the context of real business environments. We introduce the voice environment and the WebSphere Voice Server. We cover in great detail the various operating platforms supported by WebSphere Voice Server (Dialogic, Cisco, and DirectTalk - also referred to as WebSphere Voice Response). The product has been further enhanced to function on both Intel and AIX systems. The book goes into some depth about this new functionality. Additionally, we discuss both the Software Developers Kit (SDK) and the Voice Toolkit that are available for the development of voice applications. A step-by-step approach was taken to walk through the development of a VoiceXML application utilizing both of these tools, and taking advantage of the new functions provided within them.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication introduces the reader to the world of EDI. In addition to general terms about EDI, it also introduces a number of products in this area. WebSphere Data Interchange is discussed as the translation engine to map EDI documents to and from documents in other formats. This book also introduces two communication products that use Internet technologies: iSoft’s P2PAgent and Trading Partner Interchange. In addition to product introductions, the book describes several implementation scenarios in a multi-partner and multi-product environment. Besides a network where trading partners only use iSoft’s P2PAgent, we also look at a setup where trading partners use a combination of the two products. For each communication product, we investigate several integration options with internal applications and other middleware. We discuss the integration options with the translation product WebSphere Data Interchange and with the process integration product WebSphere BI Interchange Server. The integration technique can be file-based or messaging-based. Finally, we take a look at options to combine the flexibility of the Internet with the reliability of value-added networks. When Internet connectivity is temporarily not available, a trading partner has the ability to use Expedite to dial into IBM’s network and send or receive EDI documents. By exploiting the recycle mechanics in iSoft's P2PAgent, we can implement a solution that provides a highly available connection between trading partners.
