Abstract: India's Foreign Policy features scholars specializing in different dimensions of foreign-policy analysis examine the dynamics of India's international relations. The volume reviews the economic growth that has propelled it to the status of a globally recognized power, and examines its nuclear policy and maritime strategy as a register of its present capabilities and future aspirations. The news media, often neglected in the study of international politics, are studied as an important index to-and catalysis for-the formulation of government policies. The volume also comprehensively analyses India's bilateral and multilateral relations, their influence on the stability of the subcontinent, their bearing on the country's international presence, and their relevance for its political ambitions.

Abstract: This book introduces students to Christian mysticism and modern critical responses to it. Christianity has a rich tradition of mystical theology that first emerged in the writings of the early church fathers, and flourished during the Middle Ages. Today Christian mysticism is increasingly recognised as an important Christian heritage relevant to today's spiritual seekers. The book sets out to provide students and other interested readers with access to the main theoretical approaches to Christian mysticism - including those propounded by William James, Steven Katz, Bernard McGinn, Michael Sells, Denys Turner and Caroline Walker-Bynum. It also explores postmodern re-readings of Christian mysticism by authors such as Jacques Derrida, Jean-Luc Marion and Jean-Francois Lyotard. The book first introduces students to the main themes that underpin Christian mysticism. It then reflects on how modern critics have understood each of them, demonstrating that stark delineation between the different theoretical approaches eventually collapses under the weight of the complex interaction between experience and knowledge that lies at the heart of Christian mysticism. In doing so, the book presents a deliberate challenge to a strictly perennialist readings of Christian mysticism.Anyone even remotely familiar with Christian mysticism will know that renewed interest in Christian mystical writers has created a huge array of scholarship with which students of mysticism need to familiarise themselves. This book outlines the various modern theoretical approaches in a manner easily accessible to a reader with little or no previous knowledge of this area, and offers a philosophical/theological introduction to Christian mystical writers beyond the patristic period important for the Latin Western Tradition.

Abstract: Reap the rewards of a Green IT Strategy with this essential guide Climate change can be an emotive issue. This book takes a cool look at the subject and shows you what makes it relevant to your business. A big part of the answer is energy. Computers consume a lot of energy, and energy costs money. The cost of powering and cooling data servers over three years is currently 1.5 times the cost of purchasing the server hardware. Over the next two decades, global demand for energy is predicted to rise by 50%, which means that your long-term energy costs are also likely to increase. In the end, if your organisation's energy costs are high, it makes sense for you to focus on ways to reduce energy consumption. Improving the efficiency of data centre power supplies and reducing IT power requirements in the office are examples of how Green IT can yield a substantial return on investment. This business guide to Green IT was written to introduce, to a business audience, the opposing groups and the key climate change concepts, to provide an overview of a Green IT strategy and to set out a straightforward, bottom-line orientated Green IT action plan. Benefits to business of a Green IT strategy: Cut costs A Green IT strategy, including such measures as switching off PCs at night, or introducing Cloud Computing, will enable you to reduce the amount of energy that your organisation consumes and, therefore, to cut costs. Improve sales Products that can demonstrate their green credentials are more attractive to consumers. As organisations pursue more ambitious environmental objectives, they are putting their suppliers under increasing pressure to improve their own environmental record. Meanwhile, the public sector has adopted rigorous standards for Green procurement. With Green IT you can help your company to reach more customers and to win new business. Enhance your organisation's reputation The environment is an emotional issue, and environmental concerns affect the way your company is perceived by consumers. Green IT will support your company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy by reducing the environmental impact of your operations. The evidence suggests that the market rewards companies whose practices are environmentally responsible. Conform to regulations and standards New regulations, such as the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, aim to reduce the effects on the environment resulting from the use and disposal of I...

Abstract: The Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA) credential is the first tier of Citrix certification. The CCA is most often sought out by IT professionals whose networks employ Citrix virtualization technology, and for those IT professionals who are seeking a broad base of general network expertise. The number of CCAs is estimated at between 65 and 70K, up from 45,000 in 2003. Citrix recently released a new version of its most popular product, XenApp (formerly Presentation Server). This new version is fully compatible with Windows Server 2008. To retain their CCA credential, all current CCAs will need to upgrade to the new software. This will be particularly important to those companies enrolled in Citrix partner programs, as current certification is a requirement of the program. When packaged with practice exams, this prep kit will offer an affordable, effective solution for CCA certification and re-certification. Complete exam-prep package includes full coverage of new XenApp 5.0 objectives Authored by a Citrix expert with hundreds of implementations to his credit This preparation kit can also be used as a reference guide for administrators who need to integrate XenApp 5.0 with their networks

Abstract: No one likes to be criticized. But when feedback is necessary-whether it's with a boss, someone we manage, or another co-worker-it takes great communication skills to successfully get the message across with feelings and relationships intact. Drawing from the latest in psychology on how best to connect with others, How to Tell Anyone Anything steers readers away from the common mistake of focusing on what's wrong, and shows them instead how to provide clear, constructive, positive messages that create real behavior and performance change. Complete with illuminating examples and a unique step-by-step process, the book gives readers powerful insight into how we all react naturally to criticism-and how to transform interactions that might become verbal tugs-of-war into collaborative, problem-solving sessions.

Abstract: Geography in India is the fifth ICSSR survey of research on the subject and discusses its priority research areas as identified by the Council, namely, physical geography, population and settlement geography, regional geography and regional planning, remote sensing and geographical information systems (GIS), and analytical techniques with special reference to quantitative techniques in geography. The chapters critically analyse past research as well as emergent fields of specialization, and suggest areas where further research can prove beneficial. In addition, the introduction and thematic discussions showcase the gradual shift from largely qualitative, regional studies to systematic and quantitative geography, and document the growing number of interdisciplinary studies with space as a common theme. The contributors have also taken note of the progress in geography overseas and the access to new technology for the development of analytical techniques in the field.

Abstract: Web 2.0 is more pervasive than ever, with business analysts and technologists struggling to comprehend the opportunity it represents. So what exactly is Web 2.0 -- a marketing term or technical reality? This fascinating book finally puts substance behind the phenomenon by identifying the core patterns of Web 2.0, and by introducing an abstract model and reference architecture to help you take advantage of them. In Web 2.0 Architectures , authors Duane Nickull, Dion Hinchcliffe, and James Governor -- who have 40 years of combined experience with technical specifications and industry trends -- examine what makes successful Web 2.0 services such as Google AdSense, Flickr, BitTorrent, MySpace, Facebook, and Wikipedia work. The result is a base of knowledge that developers, business people, futurists, and entrepreneurs can understand and use as a source of ideas and inspiration. This book reveals: A Web 2.0 model: How the classic Client-Server model evolved into a more detailed Web 2.0 model. Web 2.0 reference architecture: A generic component view of basic Web 2.0 patterns that can be repurposed for other commercial ventures. Specific Web 2.0 patterns: How service oriented architecture (SOA), Software as a Service (SaaS), participation-collaboration, mashups, rich user experience, collaborative tagging systems (Folksonomy), and more can be used in your business. If you want to understand what makes Web 2.0 tick, and how it will enhance your business, Web 2.0 Architectures takes you right to the core.

Abstract: Most modern business systems include independent applications that exchange information with each other-a technique usually called enterprise integration. An architectural approach called the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) offers developers a way to handle the messages between those independent applications without creating a lot of custom code. While commercial ESB solutions can be quite expensive to implement and maintain, a set of high-quality open source ESB tools offer the same functionality at a substantially lower cost. Open Source ESBs in Action shows you how to implement and use two open source ESB implementations: Mule and ServiceMix. The authors introduce you to these freely-available ESB tools and present practical examples of how to use them in real-world scenarios. You will learn how the various features of an ESB such as transformation, routing, security, connectivity and more can be implemented using Mule and ServiceMix. You will also learn how to solve common enterprise integration problems using a structured approach. Beyond simply learning how Mule and Service Mix work, you'll learn the core techniques of ESB implementation such as Process Choreography, or the implementation of complex business processes through an ESB, and Service Orchestration, or exposing a set of services as a single service. The book shows you the fundamentals of ESB-based event processing and Quality of Service concerns like security, reliable delivery, and transaction management. Working in integration projects is exciting, with new technologies and paradigms arriving every day. Open Source technologies like Mule and ServiceMix both offer lower-cost solutions and a higher degree of innovation than commercial ESB implementations. Open Source ESBs in Action will help you master ESB-driven integration techniques quickly and will provide you with knowledge you need to work effectively with Mule and ServiceMix.

The Cookbook takes the pain out of everyday AD tasks by providing concise, clear and relevant recipes. The fact that the recipes are provided using different methods (graphical user interface, command line and scripting) means that the book is suitable for anyone working with AD on a day-to-day basis. The introduction of PowerShell examples in this latest edition will be of particular interest for those looking to transition from VBScript. Laura has also done a great job in extending the Cookbook in this edition to encompass the broad range of changes to AD in Windows Server 2008." --Tony Murray, Founder of Activedir.org and Directory Services MVP "If you already understand Active Directory fundamentals and are ...

Abstract: "Every great design school in the world is defined, in part, by the work of its students at any given time. The various project challenges given to a class determine the success of a school's pedagogy, but also the ingenuity of its faculty and students. This book features fifty real-world class assignments from top design programs at universities around the world, and examines the resulting student projects. From undergraduate to graduate work and basic class challenges to final thesis's, students delivered a wide variety of graphic and multimedia design projects from print to motion to exhibition. The book has three functions: to exhibit a wide range of challenging problems and successful solutions, provide practical models to be inspired by and learn from, examine how sophisticated design school projects are and what value they have in relation to real-world practice."--Book jacket.

Written by one of the country's top academic experts on information security, the guide covers such topics as safeguarding data through encryption, establishing a virtual private network (VPN) to create a secure way for your staff to connect to the server on a remote device, and countering the growing threat on mobile platforms of SMS-phishing and malware. Rather than trying to ban the Blackberry, the solution proposed is for organisations to factor mobile devices into their overall information security policy. The recommendations contained in this pocket guide are designed to enable your organisation to enjoy the benefits of mobile phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs) without sacrificing the ability to operate as safely and securely as possible. The key themes tackled in this pocket guide are: The importance of mobile technologies Physical threats in the outside world Dealing with network connectivity Authenticating the user Mechanisms for protecting mobile data Attacks facing mobile devices and users The potential limitations of mobile security features. Safeguard sensitive information A simple way to protect the information on a mobile in the event of loss or theft is to use password protection. Without it, anyone who gets hold of the device has a free hand to browse its contents. Choosing and using a strong password is just as important on your mobile as it is for your desktop. Use encryption to protect mobile security With a mobile, data is often held on secure digital (SD) cards rather than in the device's onboard memory. By encrypting the data, you can prevent thieves from accessing the contents of your SD cards. Define the boundries of mobile usage Personal devices hold a lot of corporate data that simply should not be there in the first place. By setting up proper technical controls, you can regulate what material your staff are permitted to take out of the office on their mobile phones. Viruses on mobile platforms Attackers are taking an increasing interest in mobile platforms, so providing some level of anti-virus protection for handheld devices is increasingly recommended. With the anti-virus software on your desktop, you can connect up your mobile and give it a virus scan. Forewarned is forearmed, and with the expert guidance contained in this pock...

The book provides detailed discussions of the internal workings of transaction processing systems, and it discusses how these systems work and how best to utilize them. It covers the architecture of Web Application Servers and transactional communication paradigms. The book is divided into 11 chapters, which cover the following: Overview of transaction processing application and system structure Software abstractions found in transaction processing systems Architecture of multitier applications and the functions of transactional middleware and database servers Queued transaction processing and its internals, with IBM's Websphere MQ and Oracle's Stream AQ as examples Business process management and its mechanisms Description of the two-phase locking function, B-tree locking and multigranularity locking used in SQL database systems and nested transaction locking System recovery and its failures Two-phase commit protocol Comparison between the tradeoffs of replicating servers versus replication resources Transactional middleware products and standards Future trends, such as cloud computing platforms, composing scalable systems using distributed computing components, the use of flash storage to replace disks and data streams from sensor devices as a source of transaction requests. The text meets the needs of systems professionals, such as IT application programmers who construct TP applications, application analysts, and product developers. The book will also be invaluable to students and novices in application programming. Complete revision of the classic "non mathematical" transaction processing reference for systems professionals. Updated to focus on the needs of transaction processing via the Internet-- the main focus of business data processing investments, via web application servers, SOA, and important new TP standards. Retains the practical, non-mathematical, but thorough conceptual basis of the first edition.

Abstract: Every successful organization needs high-performance teams to compete and succeed. Yet, technical people are often resistant to traditional "touchy-feely" teambuilding. To improve communication, performance, and morale among NASA's technical teams, former NASA Astrophysicist Dr. Charlie Pellerin developed the teambuilding process described in "How NASA Builds Teams"-an approach that is proven, quantitative, and requires only a fraction of the time and resources of traditional training methods. This "4-D" process has boosted team performance in hundreds of NASA project teams, engineering teams, and management teams, including the people responsible for NASA's most complex systems - the Space Shuttle, space telescopes, robots on Mars, and the mission back to the moon. How NASA Builds Teams explains how the 4-D teambuilding process can be applied in any organization, and includes a fast, free on-line behavioral assessment to help your team and the individual members understand each other and measure the key driver of team performance, the social context. Moreover, these simple, logical processes appeal strongly to technical teams who eschew "touchy-feely" training. Pellerin applies simple, elegant principles from his physics background to the art teambuilding, such as the use of a coordinate system to analyze the characteristics of team performance into actionable elements. The author illustrates the teambuilding process with entertaining stories from his decade as NASA's Director for Astrophysics and subsequent 15 years of working closely with NASA and outside business teams. For example, he tells how the processes in the book enabled him to initiate the space mission to fix the Hubble Space Telescope's flawed mirror. Free downloadable resources will help you: Identify your teammates' innate personalities Diagram your culture (And compare it to your customer's) Measure the coherency of your project's paradigm (Get this wrong and you will be fired!) and Learn to meet people's need to feel valued by you. Further, you can download and use Pellerin's most powerful tool for influencing the outcome of any difficult situation: the Context Shifting Worksheet. Many software packages and organizations allow for the exchange of data using an XML format. Web services and RSS feeds are now commonplace. For those working with Flash and Flex, a thorough understanding of XML is particularly important. XML documents are one option for the data provided to SWF applications. Flash and Flex can load, display, and modify XML content. These applications can also send XML content to other applications for updating or for use in different situations. ActionScript 3.0 introduced some fundamental changes to the way in which Flash and Flex applications work with XML. One significant change is that XML is now a native data type. ActionScript 3.0 also introduced new classes and a different framework for working with external documents. These changes are based on the E4X ECMAScript standard, and they streamline and simplify the process for working with XML in Flash and Flex. In Foundation XML and E4X for Flash and Flex , Sas Jacobs gives you an introduction to XML and E4X. She explores the XML and XMLList classes and explains E4X expressions, providing examples for both Flash and Flex. In addition to explaining how to incorporate XML documents in Shockwave Flash applications, Sas shows you approaches specific to Flash and Flex and explores real-world usage. The book finishes with two case studies. In the first, you will learn how to consume and display information and images from Flickr using Flash. In the second, you will work with Adobe Kuler in Flex. Whether you are a designer or developer, this book will help you work with XML and make the transition from ActionScript 2.0 to ActionScript 3.0. It will also provide you with an excellent grounding if you are new to Flash and Flex.

Abstract: The Practical Guide to Wall Street is an indispensable resource for anyone who aspires to a front-office sales or trading position on Wall Street and an essential desk reference for market practitioners and those who interact with this exciting but widely misunderstood industry. Written by an experienced trader in a clear, conversational style and assuming no previous background in finance, The Practical Guide to Wall Street provides a thorough schooling in the core curriculum of the equity and equity derivatives sales and trading business - exactly what you would learn from sitting beside the traders at a tier-one Wall Street investment bank (except that in practice, traders rarely have time to provide such detailed explanations!) Topics covered include: Clear, detailed and intuitive explanations of all major products, their function, pricing and risks (several of which are unavailable anywhere else despite producing billions of dollars in annual revenue for Wall St.) The layout of the trading floor, the roles and responsibilities of the different sales and trading groups and how they interact to service the client business An overview of the structure of the macro-economy and the trader's perspective on the significance of economic data releases and their impact on the financial markets A review of those concepts from fundamental valuation and financial statement analysis of greatest relevance on the trading floor (as opposed to abstract valuation models) Practical details of the structure and functioning of the equity and derivative markets including translations of trader jargon, Bloomberg tips, market conventions, liquidity and risk considerations and much more... This book provides the first comprehensive explanation of all aspects of the functioning of the equities division, with information, details and insights previously only available to those who already worked on a trading floor. The availability of this material in a format accessible to non-professionals fundamentally changes the level of industry knowledge employers in the financial services industry can expect of new hires.
