Abstract: The business leader's guide to creating a great workplace from the Great Place to Work Institute In this follow-up guide to The Great Workplace , experts from Great Place to Work® Institute, Inc. reveal the most common excuses managers use for why they can't create a great workplace. Authors Jennifer Robin and Michael Burchell poke holes in every single excuse. Whether the reasons involve the organization's leadership, employees, environment, or any other factor, the authors explain that if managers lead people properly, they can create a great workplace. The authors explore how managers can interrupt their own negative thought patterns and instead create lasting change, and they describe how great workplaces have surmounted very real difficulties with aplomb. Includes case studies, stories, tips, and tools for managers who want to transform their organizations From the experts at the Great Place to Work, a global research, consulting, and training firm that operates in nearly 50 countries Proves that any and every organization can change for the better when managers have the right tools and mindset Creating a place where people want to work and want to succeed is the primary key to success for every manager. No Excuses shows that managers in any organization can transform their workplace-if they'll only get out of their own way first.

Abstract: Praise for the Second Edition of The Dynamics of Conflict "Mayer once again demonstrates his unique ability to weave theory and practice together with real-world examples-whether about warring nations or a family dispute-to help readers better understand both the fundamentals and nuances involved in working in the conflict arena. The Dynamics of Conflict is a very important read for anyone who works with people in conflict."-Peter Salem, executive director, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts "In his latest book, Mayer explores the theoretical underpinnings of conflict as it relates to cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions. Personal stories and examples provide practical skills in communication and negotiation, including how to deal with power, impasse, and cross-cultural issues. The book is a must-read for conflict resolution professionals and will also be easily understandable to the public at large-a great tool for businesses, parents, governmental agencies, mental health professionals, and educators!"-Nina Meierding, Negotiation and Mediation Training Services; former president, Academy of Family Mediators "Mayer has always provided our field with a dose of common sense, vision, and clarity. With The Dynamics of Conflict we can add cohesion and extraordinary integration. Based on deep experience, these chapters enter our most difficult challenges in ways that offer understanding in the midst of complexity and concrete strategies for response and engagement-a masterful example of approaching conflict with skill and respect. Mayer has gifted us with a book that serves the novice practitioner with guideposts, yet opens ever new and exciting pathways for the seasoned conflict specialist."-John Paul Lederach, professor of international peacebuilding, Joan B. Kroc Institute, University of Notre Dame; author, The Moral Imagination: The Art and Soul of Building Peace Praise for the First Edition "A rare blend of practical experience and theoretical knowledge. Insightful, useful, and thought provoking. I recommend it!" -William Ury, coauthor, Getting to Yes, and author, The Third Side

Abstract: In Organizing Muslims and Integrating Islam in Germany , Kerstin Rosenow-Williams analyzes the challenges faced by Islamic organizations in Germany since the beginning of the 21st century. Outlining the expectations German political actors have of Islamic organizations and the internal interests of these organizations, the author illustrates that organizational response strategies involve patterns not only of adaptation, but also of decoupling and protest. The study introduces an innovative research framework based on organizational sociology and provides empirical insights into three major Islamic umbrella organizations (DITIB, IGMG, ZMD) and their relationships with other actors. The comprehensive analysis of the German institutional environment and related developments in Islamic organizations makes this study highly relevant to scholars and politicians, as well as the general public

Abstract: "Survey after survey supports the notion that conflict is all around us. So the question isn't one of whether or not you'll experience conflict or how to reduce or avoid it. Instead, the question is what will you get out of conflict when it does occur. Depending on how you respond, that something can be good or bad, constructive or destructive, invigorating or can be good or bad, constructive or destructive, invigorating or debilitating"--Introd.
