Abstract: "This collection compares the current stage of multicultural challenges and their influence on democracy in twelve countries of Europe and East Asia. While East Asia has recently experienced sociocultural cleavages and their challenges to democracy, Europe has faced increasing discontent over multiculturalism and has tried to seek alternative routes of social integration to sustain democracy. In other words, both continents have now faced the common problem of how to solve sociocultural cleavages and how to sustain democracy through overcoming multicultural challenges. Contributors examine twelve individual cases in the two continents and compare the divergence and convergence of multicultural practices, exploring different ways of achieving the shared values of democracy in a multicultural diversity. This book ultimately clarifies the differences between Europe and East Asia in their approaches to universalizing locality and localizing global norms regarding human rights and democratic individuality in the context of multicultural challenges"..

Abstract: "Islam in Europe delves into the daily routines of European Muslim communities in order to provide a better understanding of what it means to be a European Muslim today. Instead of positing particular definitions of being Muslim, this volume invites and encourages a diverse body of 735 informants from Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK to reflect on who they are and on the meaning and place Islam has in such considerations. Drawing upon extensive fieldwork and suggesting novel ways of seeing the phenomenon of European Islam and the continent's Muslim communities, Islam in Europe examines how through their practices, discourses, face to face and mediated interaction, European Muslims construct notions or identity, agency, solidarity and belonging, or how they negotiate and redefine religion, tradition, authority and cultural authenticity. Theoretically and methodologically innovative, Islam in Europe makes a significant contribution to better understanding European Islam and Europe's Muslims. "..

Abstract: "This volume explores how the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars (1793-1815) were experienced, perceived and narrated by contemporaries in Britain and Ireland. These conflicts have been described as the first modern or 'total' war with far-reaching consequences for military and civilian society and the development of modern identities. Yet in contrast to the innovative body of scholarship on the First and Second World Wars there has been little sustained analysis of the personal experiences of men and women involved directly or indirectly in these conflicts. Narratives of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars addresses this historiographical gap using letters, diaries and personal testimonies by soldiers, sailors and civilians to shed new light on the social and cultural history of the period and the history of warfare more broadly. Parallel Title: Print version Cliques and Capitalism : A Modern Networked Theory of the Firm
Keywords: Business ; Business enterprises Finance ; Management ; Leadership ; Organization ; Planning ; Behavioral economics ; Economic policy ; Corporate Network ; Unternehmen ; Strategische Planung
Abstract: De Lange suggests a new contextually linked building block model to develop theories of the firm in the field of strategy and organizations. Using this approach, she proposes two models: one that is a realistic American version and another that is a futuristic sustainable model. Both are new networked models that integrate current theories; a review of international corporate governance supports the sustainable firm that solves problems of the current one. Through a revised theoretical lens, the book answers a provocative question surrounding modern corporate America: Who wields the power? In this investigative look at the institutional mechanisms behind who is truly running the show, Cliques and Capitalism seeks to not only explain why the current corporate system fails to function well, but also offers solutions for improved corporate governance through a new sustainable model

Abstract: A collection of papers from leading thinkers to celebrate the work of the late Wynne Godley, and his enormous contribution to the field of monetary economics. Chapters include in-depth discussions of the revolutionary economic modelling systems that Godley introduced, as well as his prescient concerns about the global financial crash
Abstract: In the 1970s, at a time of shock, controversy and uncertainty over the direction of monetary and fiscal policy, Wynne Godley and the Cambridge Department of Applied Economics rose to prominence, challenging the accepted Keynesian wisdom of the time. This collection of essays brings together eminent scholars who have been influenced by Godley's enormous contribution to the field of monetary economics and macroeconomic modeling. Godley's theoretical, applied and policy work is explored in detail, including an analysis of the insightful New Cambridge 'three balances' model, and its use in showing the progression of real capitalist economies over time. Godley's prescient concerns about the global financial crash are also examined, demonstrating how his work revealed structural imbalances and formed the foundations of an economics relevant to the instability of finance
