Kurzfassung: You are not offering testimony to the existence of something, you are bringing something into existence-something that did not exist before, and that would not exist if it were not for you. ~Guy Tal The first step to creating an expressive photograph happens before you even click the shutter: it is the act of visualizing an image in your mind's eye. Once composed and captured, the data recorded by the camera is then transformed in processing to match the visualized image. To become a better expressive photographer means, among other things, to become a better visualizer. This requires more than just technical skill, but also an understanding of what art is, what it means to be an artist, and how to translate your thoughts, feelings, and experiences into visual creations. In The Landscape Photographer's Guide to Photoshop: A Visualization-Driven Workflow, Guy Tal provides a broad theoretical foundation for digital landscape photography as an expressive visual art, and for understanding how art and technology come together to serve your creative purpose. He then offers a roadmap for a visualization-driven approach to processing images in Photoshop. Topics include: • An overview of the history of art and of photography as art • A deeper understanding of creativity and visualization, and of the technical underpinnings of digital imaging • Techniques to effectively apply visualization in creating and processing your images • How to perform "gap analysis" to identify the gaps between the image at any point in time and the desired outcome • How to convert your RAW files using Adobe Camera Raw prior to editing in Photoshop • How best to employ many of Photoshop's tools and features • How to leverage Layers and Masks to accomplish your visualized results • How to control and adjust contrast, color, and tone • Image blending techniques to extend dynamic range and for focus stacking • Processing strategies for black-and-white conversions, including toning your images • Printing and other output techniques including sizing, sharpening, noise reduction, and color management Bringing all of these techniques together, Guy presents a detailed case study, beginning with his initial visualization for the final image and working through his processing steps from RAW conversion to the final print.

Kurzfassung: The only constant is change-especially in today's business environment. Increasing globalization and the rise of new markets and technologies are forcing companies to compete in a more turbulent world than ever. To survive and thrive, organizations must be able to continuously evolve. Unfortunately, people tend to resist change. Uncertainty can be daunting, and people generally prefer to keep doing what they already know, avoiding unfamiliar situations, particularly in their work. The good news is that change can be managed using the same processes many organizations already use in their day-to-day project management activities. After all, every project results in some type of change to an organization. Building on the Project Management Institute's Managing Change in Organizations: A Practice Guide, and drawing on the project management expertise of a wide variety of authors, How Successful Organizations Implement Change explains the critical aspects of the change management process and outlines the methods that project, program, and portfolio managers can utilize to bring effective change in a complex and transient business context. For practitioners who are directly leading the change effort as well as those affected by it; for executives formulating strategies, even those managing operations; and for academics researching or teaching others about organizational change management, the examples provided in this book cover a broad range of industries and areas of business. How Successful Organizations Implement Change combines the change management knowledge of experts, academics, researchers, and practitioners with tools, processes, and templates, all of which make this volume a valuable resource, a must-have, for leaders of change in organizations.

Kurzfassung: Branching processes are stochastic processes which represent the reproduction of particles, such as individuals within a population, and thereby model demographic stochasticity. In branching processes in random environment (BPREs), additional environmental stochasticity is incorporated, meaning that the conditions of reproduction may vary in a random fashion from one generation to the next. This book offers an introduction to the basics of BPREs and then presents the cases of critical and subcritical processes in detail, the latter dividing into weakly, intermediate, and strongly subcritical regimes.

Kurzfassung: This volume is the focal point of the work undertaken in the previous volumes of this set of books: the statement of the fundamental principle of the dynamics whose implementation, according to two paths whose choice depends on the problem to be treated, leads to equations of motion. In order to achieve this, it is treated first of all in the context of solids in their environment, as a prerequisite for the formulation of the fundamental principle. Then, in addition to its use in some exercises, the approach is illustrated by three particular cases. The first is an example where it is developed end-to-end and addresses the two approaches that lead to the equations of motion. The two other examples deal with two classical but important subjects, the movement of the Earth according to the hypotheses that can be stated about it, and Foucault's pendulum.

Kurzfassung: Agile is an iterative approach to software development that has rapidly gained popularity in the IT industry as the preferred alternative to traditional project management. For business analysts, adopting an Agile approach can revolutionize working practices. It enables clearer vision and success measure definitions, better stakeholder engagement and a greater understanding of customer needs, amongst other benefits. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to Agile methodologies and explains these in the context of business analysis. It is ideal for business analysts wanting to learn and understand Agile practices, working in an Agile environment, or undertaking Agile certifications. -- ''This book is invaluable to anyone undertaking agile analysis, illustrating that by using new techniques to supplement and extend the BA toolkit, and adopting a "just enough, just in time" philosophy, a truly agile delivery approach can be supported.'' Dr Terri Lydiard, Teal Business Solutions Ltd --- ''The complex world of Agile made relevant for BAs. Combines well-explained theory with wide-ranging practical application and offers an essential handbook for anyone involved in the Agile project world. A valuable addition to the BA toolkit.'' Sandra Leek, Lloyds Banking Group, Senior Lead Business Analyst and IIBA Business Analyst of the Year 2014 --- ''I have never understood those in the Agile community that have insisted that there is no need for an analyst role in the context of Agile projects. The project team needs access to first-hand business knowledge, combined with empowered and timely decision making but if the business representatives don't have the experience or skills to translate their contribution to the project team, then the project will suffer. With this book, Lynda and Debra bridge this gap and help not only the business but also the Agile community, to understand why the gap exists, what can be done to address it, which existing roles can help, and how existing Agile roles and practices contribute to the solution. I highly recommend it.'' Julian Holmes, Thought Works, Principal Consultant

Kurzfassung: In Wedding Storyteller, Volume 1: Elevating the Approach to Photographing Wedding Stories , photographer and educator Roberto Valenzuela delivers what so many of his readers have been asking for: a book specifically dedicated to helping photographers improve their wedding photography. A wedding photographer himself, Roberto built his business from the ground up based on high-quality imagery that tells a compelling and beautiful story of his clients' most important day. This is not a standard wedding photography book. In Wedding Storyteller , you will not find a collection of "looks," which neither inspire nor teach you anything. You will also not find a wedding shot list-at least not in the traditional sense. Instead, this first volume of the three-part Wedding Storyteller series goes beyond the superficial and dives deeply into the truly important topics, themes, and subject matter you need to learn about in order to drastically elevate your wedding photography. Most importantly, Roberto stresses the crucial role that storytelling plays in creating compelling, meaningful, and unique photographs for your clients. In this book, Roberto has created a unique approach that anyone can learn to implement. Roberto's "wedding storyteller skill components" system is divided into four sections: • Foundation Components: Location Techniques. Learn how to conquer the locations you encounter as a wedding photographer. Roberto teaches you how to work with light, context, clutter, walls, depth, and other compositional elements such as frames and reflections. • Foundation Components: People Techniques. Weddings are often high-energy, high-stress environments; your attitude and behavior have a huge impact on your ability to succeed as a photographer. Roberto discusses the crucial people skills you need to know and also teaches his unique approach to "situational posing" and group posing. • Storyteller Approach Components. Roberto discusses the five approaches he uses to build a "wedding story" for his clients. These five approaches are: photojournalism, interactive photojournalism, stylized aware posing, stylized unaware posing, and story development. • Expert Components. The final section builds and expands on everything covered in the previous components, as Roberto addresses such topics as Emotionally Valuable People (EVP), lens choices, helper light, posing patterns (and when to break them), capturing "peak action," achieving a unique perspective, and ...

Kurzfassung: " Algorithms and data structures are much more than abstract concepts. Mastering them enables you to write code that runs faster and more efficiently, which is particularly important for today's web and mobile apps. This book takes a practical approach to data structures and algorithms, with techniques and real-world scenarios that you can use in your daily production code. Graphics and examples make these computer science concepts understandable and relevant. You can use these techniques with any language; examples in the book are in JavaScript, Python, and Ruby. Use Big O notation, the primary tool for evaluating algorithms, to measure and articulate the efficiency of your code, and modify your algorithm to make it faster. Find out how your choice of arrays, linked lists, and hash tables can dramatically affect the code you write. Use recursion to solve tricky problems and create algorithms that run exponentially faster than the alternatives. Dig into advanced data structures such as binary trees and graphs to help scale specialized applications such as social networks and mapping software. You'll even encounter a single keyword that can give your code a turbo boost. Jay Wengrow brings to this book the key teaching practices he developed as a web development bootcamp founder and educator. Use these techniques today to make your code faster and more scalable. "

Kurzfassung: Achieve awesome user experiences and performance with simple, maintainable code! Embrace the full stack of web development, from styling with Bootstrap, building an interactive user interface with Angular 4, to storing data quickly and reliably in PostgreSQL. With this fully revised new edition, take a holistic view of full-stack development to create usable, high-performing applications with Rails 5.1. Rails is a great tool for building web applications, but it's not the best at everything. Embrace the features built into your database. Learn how to use front-end frameworks. Seize the power of the application stack through Angular 4, Bootstrap, and PostgreSQL. When used together, these powerful and easy-to-use tools will open you to a new world of possibilities. This second edition is updated to cover Angular - a completely reworked front-end framework - and dives into new Postgres 9.6 features such as UPSERT. Also new is Webpack coverage, to develop the front-end code for your Rails application. Create a usable and attractive login form using Bootstrap's styles, while ensuring the database table backing it is secure using Postgres' check constraints. See how creating an advanced Postgres index for a case-insensitive search speeds up your back end - enabling you to create a dynamic user experience using Angular 4. Create reusable components that bring Bootstrap and Angular together and effectively use materialized views for caching within Postgres. Get your front end working with Webpack, use Postgres' features from migrations, and write unit tests for all of it. All of this within Rails 5.1. You'll gain the confidence to work at every level of the application stack, bringing the right solution to every problem. What You Need: This book covers Postgres 9.5, Rails 5, and Ruby 2.3. You should have some experience with basic Rails concepts and a cursory understanding of JavaScript, CSS, and SQL, but by no means need to be an expert. You'll learn how to install Postgres on your computer or use a free version of it in the cloud.

Kurzfassung: This is the simplest, quickest, least technical, most affordable introduction to basic electronics. No tools are necessary--not even a screwdriver. Easy Electronics should satisfy anyone who has felt frustrated by entry-level books that are not as clear and simple as they are supposed to be. Brilliantly clear graphics will take you step by step through 12 basic projects, none of which should take more than half an hour. Using alligator clips to connect components, you see and hear immediateresults. The hands-on approach is fun and intriguing, especially for family members exploring the projects together. The 12 experiments will introduce you to switches, resistors, capacitors, transistors, phototransistors, LEDs, audio transducers, and a silicon chip. You'll even learn how to read schematics by comparing them with the circuits that you build. No prior knowledge is required, and no math is involved. You learn by seeing, hearing, and touching. By the end of Experiment 12, you may be eager to move on to a more detailed book. Easy Electronics will function perfectly as a prequel to the same author's bestseller, Make: Electronics . All the components listed in the book are inexpensive and readily available from online sellers. A very affordable kit has been developed in conjunction with the book to eliminate the chore of shopping for separate parts. A QR code inside the book will take you to the vendor's web site. Concepts include: Transistor as a switch or an amplifier Phototransistor to function as an alarm Capacitor to store and release electricity Transducer to create sounds from a timer Resistor codes A miniature light bulb to display voltage The inner workings of a switch Using batteries and resistors in series and parallel Creating sounds by the pressure of your finger Making a matchbox that beeps when you touch it And more. Kurzfassung: Security and performance are regarded as separate issues requiring very different solutions. But now that malicious hackers have discovered new and better ways to affect both aspects of a website, you need solutions that can plug security holes while enhancing frontend performance. How is that possible? With this report, you'll explore browser-based solutions that can beef up security and enhance end-user performance in one stroke. Attacks that target both security and performance often involve third party content such as fonts, images, and stylesheets. Authors Sabrina Burney and Sonia Burney examine several techniques for dealing with these issues in the browser, including HSTS, iframe , and prefetch . You'll also dive into service workers, browser-based scripts that provide many security and performance options. • Eliminate man-in-the-middle attacks and HTTP redirects with HTTP Strict-Transport-Security (HSTS)• Improve and secure frontend user experience with iframe and Content-Security-Policy • Deliver prioritized resources faster with prefetch and preload header options• Obfuscate third party content to improve frontend delivery and security• Help third party analytics tools go "unnoticed" by using Service Workers• Use Service Workers to allow only third party content that meets your criteria• Leverage other Service Worker applications, including input validation and geo content control Sonia Burney , a Solutions Architect at Akamai Technologies, creates solutions to challenging problems in web experience, including new algorithms designed to improve the frontend experience at the browser. Kurzfassung: Programs serve as a crucial link between strategy and the execution of business results and organizations implement them to achieve strategic goals. Although the practice of program management has evolved in lockstep with the project management profession, the root causes of program failure remain. In this step-by-step guide, Irene Didinsky offers a standardized approach to program management, closing the knowledge gaps and variations that currently exist across organizations and industries. For the first time, Practitioner's Guide to Program Management walks the reader through all the key components of effective program management. Using a case study example of an actual process improvement program, Didinsky discusses the qualities of excellence in program leadership, the importance of organizational strategy alignment throughout the program life cycle, how a program realizes benefits, and how to manage conflicting priorities of stakeholders. This comprehensive resource also includes an historical overview of the professionalization of the field, outlines the logistics of forming a program management community of practice, and concludes with a glossary of terms. With this desktop manual in their hands, practitioners can expect to thrive and guarantee the success of their programs.

Kurzfassung: The Transformational Consumer They are the most valuable, least understood customers of our time. They buy over $4 trillion in life-improving products and services every year. If you serve their deeply human need to continually improve their lives, they will eagerly engage with your brand at a time when most people are tuning out corporate messages. They are Transformational Consumers, and no one knows them like Tara-Nicholle Nelson. Her Transformational Consumer insights powered her work at MyFitnessPal, which grew from 40 million to 100 million users in her time there. Nelson takes readers on a hero's journey to connecting with customers in ways both profitable and transformational. After going inside the brains, emotions, and behaviors of Transformational Consumers, Tara issues a call to adventure: a rallying cry to leaders to shift their focus from simply making products to solving their customers' problems. Nelson uses stories and cases studies from every industry to guide readers through this journey in five stages, shedding light on how to rethink their customers, their products and services, their marketing, their competition, and even their culture. The key to growing a business today is not building an app or getting new social media followers. The key is engaging people over and over again by triggering their deep, human desire for growth and transformation. When a company reorients every initiative to serve Transformational Consumers, it kick-starts a lifelong love affair with its customers-a love affair that results in unprecedented revenue growth, product innovation, and employee engagement.

Kurzfassung: When photographing people, you can have a great composition, perfect light, and the right camera settings, but if your subject doesn't look right-if the pose is off-the shot will not be a keeper. Posing is truly a crucial skill that photographers need to have in order to create great photographs. If you're looking to improve your ability to pose your subjects-whether they're men, women, couples, or groups-best-selling author and photographer Lindsay Adler's The Photographer's Guide to Posing: Techniques to Flatter Everyone is the perfect resource for you. In the first half of The Photographer's Guide to Posing , Lindsay discusses how the camera sees, and thus how camera angle, lens choice, and perspective all affect the appearance of your subject. Lindsay then covers the five most important things that ruin a pose-such as placement of the hands, and your subject's expression and posture. If you can look out for and avoid these five things, your skills (and your images) will quickly improve. Next, Lindsay dives into "posing essentials," outlining her approach to start with a "base pose," then build on that to create endless posing opportunities. She also discusses posing the face-with specific sections dedicated to the chin, jaw, eyes, and forehead-as well as posing hands. In the second half of the book, Lindsay dedicates entire chapters to posing specific subject matter: women, men, couples, curvy women, families and small groups, and large groups. In each chapter, Lindsay addresses that subject matter's specific challenges, provides five "go-to poses" you can always use, and covers how to train the eye to determine the best pose for your subject(s). In the final chapter of the book, Lindsay brings it all together as she teaches you how to analyze a pose so that you can create endless posing opportunities and continuously improve your work

Kurzfassung: Master functions and discover how to write functional programs in R. In this concise book, you'll make your functions pure by avoiding side-effects; you'll write functions that manipulate other functions, and you'll construct complex functions using simpler functions as building blocks. In Functional Programming in R , you'll see how we can replace loops, which can have side-effects, with recursive functions that can more easily avoid them. In addition, the book covers why you shouldn't use recursion when loops are more efficient and how you can get the best of both worlds. Functional programming is a style of programming, like object-oriented programming, but one that focuses on data transformations and calculations rather than objects and state. Where in object-oriented programming you model your programs by describing which states an object can be in and how methods will reveal or modify that state, in functional programming you model programs by describing how functions translate input data to output data. Functions themselves are considered to be data you can manipulate and much of the strength of functional programming comes from manipulating functions; that is, building more complex functions by combining simpler functions. What You'll Learn Write functions in R including infix operators and replacement functions Create higher order functions Pass functions to other functions and start using functions as data you can manipulate Use Filer, Map and Reduce functions to express the intent behind code clearly and safely Build new functions from existing functions without necessarily writing any new functions, using point-free programming Create functions that carry data along with them Who This Book Is For Those with at least some experience with programming in R.
