Abstract: This volume focuses on Chinese economic statecraft during the first decade of Deng Xiaoping’s reform and opening-up policies, from 1978 to 1989. During these years, Chinese economic engagement with the external world was tentative and experimental, with long-term strategies still decidedly under development. Prominent topics covered are China’s efforts to steer an economic course tailored to and representing what Deng Xiaoping famously described as “socialism with Chinese characteristics”; China’s quest for advanced science and technology; China’s dealings with international economic institutions, especially the World Bank; China’s engagement with other powers, including Japan, the United States, the ASEAN nations, and Europe; and the role of non-governmental organizations, including foreign policy think tanks, exchange groups, and educational institutions, in developing Chinese economic thinking and methodology during this decade. Contributors also focus on how elements of the Chinese military turned to building China’s new economic infrastructure, and on Chinese efforts to break into foreign markets. The volume ends with an overview and reassessment of earlier findings on Chinese economic statecraft in these years, by one of the leading Chinese experts on the PRC’s international policy. Priscilla Roberts has researched on aspects of international transitions of power and the role of elites, as private individuals and through institutions, in the making of foreign policy in the US, Britain, and the British dominions. She has produced 31 single-authored, edited, and co-edited books.
Note: "The second meeting, a workshop focused more specifically on Chinese Economic Statecraft during the Long 1980s, was held in Macau in January 2020, just a few weeks before the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic made such gatherings impossible. Once again, an array of scholars from Macau, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Great Britain, the United States, and Czechoslovakia came together, for intensive discussions of the subject ... Most of the chapters in this volume originated in papers delivered at that meeting. Some potential contributors who were unable to attend came on board later, writing chapters during the pandemic. Modern technology may have its imperfections, but without it, this book would not have been possible. The workshop on which this volume is based benefited from generous financial support from the Macao Foundation and the Faculty of Business of City University of Macau." - Seite vi

Abstract: This book explores how the economic sphere has experienced an ultimate shape after the occurrence of several crises, since 2000s. The subprime crisis has trigged the transition from conventional to unconventional frameworks in most industrialised and emerging economies. This book highlights how the sovereign debt crisis has exacerbated the economic environment and raised economic uncertainty. This book asserts that markets integration have boosted contagion and risk spillovers among financial markets. Moreover, the Brexit and US-China trade tension has intensified uncertainty and the economic challenges. This book examines in recent times how humanity has experienced the most dramatic health crisis and their economic effects. This pandemic lockdowns several countries and caused an economic and financial collapse. This book expands on these crises, with different origins and mechanisms, have shaped the economic systems in several ways: monetary policy, macroeconomic imbalance, economic growth, economic integration, financial risk, volatility and trade effects. The main aims of this book cover the topical issues related to crises and uncertainty and the economic consequences. This book is drawn from academics and practitioners presenting high-quality original research papers, presented in the Financial and Economic Meeting conference 2021.

Abstract: This book is about the establishment of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, in 2016, one of the most important new developments in Indian commercial law. The law has major implications for firms, their creditors, and a variety of the professional services that feed into the decisions of borrowers and lenders including lawyers, accountants and valuers. A new profession of insolvency professionals has come to exist owing to the law. There are several questions about bankruptcy reform in the mind of researchers, policy makers and practitioners. How has the reform progressed? How has it reshaped the incentives of firms? What are the difficulties faced? What are the optimal paths for borrowers and lenders and their advisors under the rubric of the law? How should laws and institutions be modified? The book has a unique set of chapters, by key people who have shaped the field which offer novel insights into these questions. The book has been edited by key people who have worked on bankruptcy reform since 2010. Dr. Sahoo has been the chairperson of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India since the establishment of this regulatory agency. Dr. Thomas was a member of the Bankruptcy Law Reforms Committee which drafted the IBC, and led the internal team of the BLRC which drafted the law. The book is an authentic and credible analysis of the happenings in the Indian insolvency and bankruptcy ecosystem from the start, with interest areas for international and domestic, economics/finance and law, researcher and practitioner communities.
Note: "I am happy to note that this book undertakes an in-depth diagnosis and evaluation of the Code, and focuses on the challenges that lie ahead, including plausible solutions, some of which were presented and discussed at the IBBI-IGIDR Research Conference held in August, 2018, of which I was a part. I would like to compliment the authors as well as the editor for bringing out such a comprehensive publication on the subject of insolvency." - Seite v und vi. - "Some of the chapters in this book were presented and debated at the IBBII-GIDR-FICCI insolvency and bankruptcy reforms workshop that was held in Mumbai in April 2018, and the IBBI-IGIDR insolvency and bankruptcy reforms conference, which was held in New Delhi in August 2018." - Seite vii

Abstract: This book aims to fill the literature gap on digital instruments and FinTech in enhancing green finance. Technological innovation can increase transparency, accountability, and speed, decentralize the financial system, improve risk management, increase competition, lower costs, improve efficiency, increase cross-sectoral collaboration and integration, and scale up green finance. Artificial intelligence (AI), distributed ledger technologies (DLT) or blockchain, peer-to-peer lending platforms, big data, Internet-based and mobile-based payment platforms, Internet of Things (IoT), matchmaking platforms including crowdlending, tokenizing green assets are potential means to scale up the green finance for achieving the SDGs. The COVID-19 pandemic, the economic downturns, and the uncertainties shrank the new investments in renewable energy projects globally. Low investment in renewable energy projects could threaten the expansion of green energy needed to provide energy security and meet SDG7 and SDG13. Investments in renewable energy projects are scarce because of several risks and a low rate of return. Although several new green financing solutions such as green bonds, green banks, green credit guarantee, carbon taxation, carbon trade, village funds, and community trust funds have been established in different countries, these are insufficient, and alternative ways to finance projects are required. The book provides several high-quality studies on utilizing digitalization, FinTech, financial innovations, and other new technologies to fill the finance gap of green projects to meet the SDG goals. The chapters are written by scholars in diverse countries and regions and include practical policy recommendations.
Note: "We also thank Professor Naoyuki Yoshino and all the participants of the workshop titled Green Digital Finance for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals hosted by Tokai University and Yonsei University (June 30–31, 2021) for their comments on the presented papers." - Seite v
