Abstract: Cost-efficient business contingency and continuity planning for a post-9/11 and Katrina world Disasters can happen. Contingency plans are necessary. But how detailed and expensive do your contingency and continuity plans really need to be? Employing a thoroughly practical approach, Business Continuity Strategies: Protecting Against Unplanned Disasters, Third Edition provides a proven methodology for implementing a realistic and cost-efficient business contingency program. Kenneth Myers--an internationally recognized contingency planning specialist--shows corporate leaders how to prepare a logical "what if" plan that would enable an organization to retain market share, service customers, and maintain cash flow if a disaster occurs. Completely updated throughout to reflect lessons learned from 9/11 and hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, Business Continuity Strategies, Third Edition helps cost-conscious senior management: * Establish a corporate contingency program policy and strategy that ensures timely completion of a plan, with minimal disruption to operations * Minimize plan development costs * Understand the importance of conducting briefings to communicate the proper mindset before the program development process begins * Save time and money by avoiding a consultant's traditional approach of extensive information-gathering that contributes little to the development of practical solutions, but much in the way of consultant fees Addressing countless hypothetical disaster scenarios doesn't make good business sense. Business Continuity Strategies, Third Edition helps companies focus on what is necessary to survive a natural catastrophe, workplace violence, or a terrorist attack.

Abstract: Combating Spyware in the Enterprise is the first book published on defending enterprise networks from increasingly sophisticated and malicious spyware. Combating Spyware in the Enterprise begins by examining the various types of insidious spyware and adware currently propagating across the internet and infiltrating enterprise networks. This section closely examines Spyware's ongoing transformation from nuisance to malicious, sophisticated attack vector. Next, the book uncovers spyware's intricate economy and network of malicious hackers and criminals. Forensic investigations presented in this section of the book reveal how increasingly sophisticated spyware can compromise enterprise networks via trojans, keystroke loggers, system monitoring, distributed denial of service attacks, backdoors, viruses, and worms. After close examination of these attack vectors, the book begins to detail both manual and automated techniques for scanning your network for the presence of spyware, and customizing your IDS and IPS to detect spyware. From here, the book goes on to detail how to prevent spyware from being initially installed to mitigating the damage inflicted by spyware should your network become infected. Techniques discussed in this section include slowing the exposure rate; web filtering; using FireFox, MacOSX, or Linux; patching and updating, machine restrictions, shielding, deploying anti-spyware, and re-imaging. The book concludes with an analysis of the future of spyware and what the security community must accomplish to win the ware against spyware. * A recent survey published by Information Security Magazine stated that "combating spyare" was the #2 priority for security professionals in 2005 * Despite the high priority placed on combating spyware by security professionals, there are no other books published or announced that address this market * Author Paul Piccard is Director of Research for Webroot, which is a market leader for pure-play anti-spyware vendors

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication describes the features and functionality of Workplace Forms and each of its component products. After introducing the products and providing an overview of features and functionality, we discuss the underlying product architecture and address the concept of integration. To help potential users, architects, and developers better understand how to develop and implement a forms application, we introduce a specific scenario based on a "Sales Quotation Approval" application. Using this base scenario as a foundation, we describe in detail how to build an application that captures data in a form, then applies specific business logic and workflow to gain approval for a specific product sales quotation. Throughout the scenario, we build upon the complexity of the application and introduce increasing integration points with other data systems. Ultimately, we demonstrate how an IBM Workplace Forms application can integrate with WebSphere Portal, IBM DB2 Content Manager, and Lotus Domino. Note: The code used for building this sample scenario application is available for download. For specific information about how to download the sample code, please refer to Appendix A. Additional material". Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: The primary objective of this IBM Redbooks publication is to provide best practices for the implementation of a License Management solution based on IBM Tivoli License Manager V2.2. This book is divided into two main parts: In Part 1, "Business aspects and project engagement considerations" on page 1, we discuss the reasons why you should deploy a License Management solution. We also position License Management in the overall picture of the IT Service Management and describe the IBM solution in this area. We also provide best practices on how to approach and engage such a project. The high level tasks of such a project are also introduced. We emphasize the fact that you must not only realize what the key elements are that need to be managed to make your project a success, but also how you should organize your IT operations to get the highest benefit from your solution. Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication describes the IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE product family, Version 3.1.0, that runs on z/OS. We start by providing the product history over time and the terminology convention that we will use in the book, which should be noted carefully because the products are in transition from Candle terminology to the new terminology related to IBM Tivoli Monitoring Version 6.1. We conform to IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.1 terminology as much as possible, although for some direct references to screen shots, we use the terminology that is shown in the figure. The product is installed using the IBM Configuration Tool. This is explained for new users who want to install IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE, because the process is somewhat different from standard IBM products that are installed on z/OS. The concept of runtime environment is explained here as well. On the operation side of IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE, we discuss problem determination and tracing concepts and facilities that are available for IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE, as well as performance considerations. As IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE is meant to monitor performance of the system, its overhead should not affect overall system performance. Last but not least, we offer sample usage scenarios of performance management using IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE products.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication is about using Java on z/OS to develop, deploy, and run stand-alone and batch applications. Java has certainly become the most popular programming language, and it is the language of choice for many enterprise applications today. This is the result of many advancements in the language itself as well as related technologies and tools that enable users to develop and run cost-effective, scalable, high-performance solutions. IBM System z servers provide comprehensive support for deploying Java applications while providing the traditional quality of service, advanced security, and scalability that users have come to expect from this server family. IBM System zApplication Assist Processors (zAAP) further enhance the ability of an enterprise to implement complex and heavy workload applications on System z in a cost-effective and reliable manner. There are many technical and business-oriented documents that describe the value of running J2EE applications on System z using WebSphere Application Server. However, less attention has been given to running stand-alone Java applications. This book shows how Java can leverage the power of IBM System z to run stand-alone and batch applications. This book is a technical guideline for Java application developers who do not have prior experience with the System z operating environment, as well as System z operators who are new to the world of Java because of the inevitable transition occurring in the IT industry. Chapters in this book are designed to be self-contained so that they can be read in any order. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: Engineering Ethics is the application of philosophical and moral systems to the proper judgment and behavior by engineers in conducting their work, including the products and systems they design and the consulting services they provide. In light of the work environment that inspired the new Sarbanes/Oxley federal legislation on “whistle-blowing? protections, a clear understanding of Engineering Ethics is needed like never before. Beginning with a concise overview of various approaches to engineering ethics, the real heart of the book will be some 13 detailed case studies, delving into the history behind each one, the official outcome and the “real story? behind what happened. Using a consistent format and organization for each one—giving background, historical summary, news media effects, outcome and interpretation--these case histories will be used to clearly illustrate the ethics issues at play and what should or should not have been done by the engineers, scientists and managers involved in each instance. * Covers importance and practical benefits of systematic ethical behavior in any engineering work environment. * Only book to explain implications of the Sarbanes/Oxley "Whistle-Blowing" federal legislation * 13 actual case histories, plus 10 additional "anonymous" case histories-in consistent format-will clearly demonstrate the relevance of ethics in the outcomes of each one * Offers actual investigative reports, with evidentiary material, legal proceedings, outcome and follow-up analysis * Appendix offers copies of the National Society of Professional Engineers Code of Ethics for Engineers and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Code of Ethics

Abstract: Database cloning is the process by which you create an exact copy of a DB2 database, either by physically copying the data or by performing what is known as a redirected restore. Database cloning is performed frequently by database administrators to provide near-production data for various business needs such as application development, QA testing, and report generation. Traditional methods of cloning a database pose various challenges, including system downtime and degraded system performance during the cloning process. Additionally, a large amount of storage space is required to store each clone. Furthermore, the maintenance overhead can be enormous if each cloned database requires a frequent data refresh. This IBM Redbooks publication describes the process used to create a clone of an IBM DB2 UDB database using FlexClone technology. This book also covers creating a database clone on a disaster recovery site that has replicated data using Data ONTAP SnapMirror technology.

Abstract: In this IBM Redbooks publication we describe and discuss DB2 Data Warehouse Edition (DWE) Version 9.1, a comprehensive platform offering with functionality to build a business intelligence infrastructure for analytics and Web-based applications, and best practices for deployment. DB2 DWE integrates core components for data warehouse construction and administration, data mining, OLAP, and InLine Analytics and reporting. It extends the DB2 data warehouse with design-side tooling and runtime infrastructure for OLAP, data mining, InLine Analytics, and intra-warehouse data movement and transformation, on a common platform based on DB2 and WebSphere. The platform pillars are based on the technology of DB2, Rational Data Architect (for physical data modeling only), the SQL Warehousing Tool, Intelligent Miner, DB2 Cube Views, and Alphablox. DWE includes an Eclipse-based design environment, DWE Design Studio, that integrates the DWE products (with the exception of Alphablox and Query Patroller) with a common framework and user interface. The new SQL Warehousing Tool enables visual design of intra-warehouse, table-to-table data flows and control flows using generated SQL. DB2 Alphablox is the tool for developing custom applications with embedded analytics-based visual components. DWE enables faster time-to-value for enterprise analytics, while limiting the number of vendors, tools, skill sets and licenses required.

Abstract: What is it that made Starbucks an overnight sensation and separated it from other coffee house companies? Why do many products with great product innovation, perfect locations, terrific customer experiences, even breakthrough advertising fail to get the same visceral traction in the marketplace as brands like Apple and Nike? Patrick Hanlon, senior advertising executive and founder of Thinktopia, decided to find the answers. His search revealed seven definable assets that together construct the belief system that lies behind every successful brand, whether it's a product, service, city, personality, social cause, or movement. In Primal Branding, Hanlon explores those seven components, known as the primal code, and shows how to use and combine them to create a community of believers in which the consumer develops a powerful emotional attachment to the brand. These techniques, work for everyone involved in creating and selling an image-from marketing managers to social advocates to business leaders seeking to increase customer preference for new or existing products. Primal Branding presents a world of new possibility for marketers of every stripe-and the opportunity to move from being just another product on the shelf to becoming a desired and necessary part of the culture.

Abstract: Successfully implementing a service-oriented architecture (SOA) requires applications and infrastructure that can support the SOA principles. Applications can be enabled by creating service interfaces to existing or new functions hosted by the applications. The service interfaces should be accessed using an infrastructure that can route and transport service requests to the correct service provider. As organizations expose more and more functions as services, it is vitally important that this infrastructure supports the management of SOA on an enterprise scale. This IBM Redbooks publication looks at how IBM messaging products support an SOA environment. In particular, it looks at WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus, WebSphere MQ, and WebSphere Message Broker in an SOA environment. We discuss how they support SOA, compare the potential ESB product implementations, and show examples of building the infrastructure and creating mediations.

Abstract: DB2 provides functions to guarantee integrity at the system level and at the application level. From the system point of view, DB2's integration with zSeries and disk storage architecture is the cornerstone for data integrity. Logging functionality and COPY and RECOVER utilities are the building blocks for bringing the table space back to a current or consistent status in case of hardware or software failures or when application events need to be rerun. From the application point of view, DB2 supports locking and commit at the transaction level, and general data integrity (at entity and semantic level), and a set of referential constraint rules for each parent/dependent table relationship. The tables linked by referential integrity are recognized during the execution of the QUIESCE utility. Other logical relations across tables, necessary to support business rules, are implemented via constraints, triggers, user defined functions, and user defined tables. Informational constraints also exist, they are not enforced by the database manager, they are used to improve query performance. In this IBM Redbooks publication, we briefly describe the integration of DB2 for z/OS with System z architecture, we then explore the data integrity options and utilize the standard recovery functions for application-related issues.

Abstract: Your personal success will come from the ability to manage two connected forms of leadership. How to: 1. Lead Yourself - by having a clear understanding of the personal journey you wish to make and how it will be managed. Once you are able to lead yourself along this journey, you will be more able to; 2. Lead Others - by delivering results that are grounded in the principle of shared rather than selfish success - ultimately 'shared success sustains success'. Both forms of leadership rely on your ability to operate from a position where your personal security comes from within. Once you understand the principles contained in this book - no longer will the idea of insecurity be seen as a negative and worrying word. Instead, in-security will mean what it says - that your personal security comes from within. Having this security means it is yours to do with as you please and no one can take it away from you. And as a result you are free to enlarge and enhance the level and value of your personal security by investing your security in other people. If you work for an organisation, the Lead Yourself framework will help to move from a position of Corporate Slavery to Corporate Success. If you work on your own, or wish to launch out and start your own business, this book will give you the framework and tools to help to achieve your goals, and how to take others with you.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication discusses running Linux under z/VM on IBM System z9 and zSeries platforms. We describe enhancements available in z/VM Version 5.1. The intended audience for this book is IT administrators responsible for installing and configuring z/VM 5.1 systems running Linux guests. Using Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP), z/VM 5/1 can be installed on and operate from SCSI disks. Configured as emulated Fixed Block Architecture (FBA) disks, z/VM 5.1 can use FCP-attached disks for its system paging, spooling, directory, and minidisks. z/VM 5.1 adds new functions for Virtual Switches (VSWITCH). For increased network security, guests must have authorization before connecting to a VSWITCH. z/VM 5.1 introduces VSWITCH Layer 2 support. Operating at Layer 2, a VSWITCH delivers and receives network traffic in Ethernet frames. This provides the ability to handle non-IP protocols such as SNA, NetBIOS, and IPX. In addition, Layer 2 support reduces network latency and CPU overhead.

Abstract: User passwords are the keys to the network kingdom, yet most users choose overly simplistic passwords (like password) that anyone could guess, while system administrators demand impossible to remember passwords littered with obscure characters and random numerals. Every computer user must face the problems of password security. According to a recent British study, passwords are usually obvious: around 50 percent of computer users select passwords based on names of a family member, spouse, partner, or a pet. Many users face the problem of selecting strong passwords that meet corporate security requirements. Too often, systems reject user-selected passwords because they are not long enough or otherwise do not meet complexity requirements. This book teaches users how to select passwords that always meet complexity requirements. A typical computer user must remember dozens of passwords and they are told to make them all unique and never write them down. For most users, the solution is easy passwords that follow simple patterns. This book teaches users how to select strong passwords they can easily remember. * Examines the password problem from the perspective of the administrator trying to secure their network * Author Mark Burnett has accumulated and analyzed over 1,000,000 user passwords and through his research has discovered what works, what doesn't work, and how many people probably have dogs named Spot * Throughout the book, Burnett sprinkles interesting and humorous password ranging from the Top 20 dog names to the number of references to the King James Bible in passwords

Abstract: Unlike emulation systems such as Microsoft's Virtual PC, Apple's new Boot Camp takes advantage of the fact that your new Intel-equipped iMac, Mac mini or MacBook Pro uses the same type of Intel processor that normal Windows PCs use, allowing you to now run Windows XP on your Intel-equipped Mac at full speed. While most of the information currently available on Boot Camp focuses mainly on installation, in Ben Long's "Apple Boot Camp Public Beta First Look" full-color PDF e-book, Mac authority Ben Long walks you step by step through everything you need to know to get Boot Camp running effectively, including how to find your way around Windows, how to get Windows working with some of your other hardware, how to avoid Windows viruses and Malware, how to share data back and forth between your Mac and Windows systems, how to back up your Windows system, how to restore your Windows system and finally, even how to virtualize Windows using Parallels. With this Apple Boot Camp Public Beta First Look, you'll get a solid grounding in how to get Windows XP up and running on your Mac.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication supersedes both: IBM TotalStorage: Introduction to SAN Routing, SG24-7119-00 Implementing the IBM TotalStorage Multiprotocol Routers, SG24-7246-00 The rapid spread and adoption of production storage area networks (SANs) has fuelled the need for multiprotocol routers. The routers provide improved scalability, security, and manageability by enabling devices in separate SAN fabrics to communicate without merging fabrics into a single, large SAN fabric. This capability enables clients to initially deploy separate SAN solutions at the departmental and data center levels. Then, clients can consolidate these separate solutions into large enterprise SAN solutions as their experience and requirements grow and change. Alternatively, multiprotocol routers can help to connect existing enterprise SANs for a variety of reasons. For instance, the introduction of Small Computer System Interface over IP (iSCSI) provides for the connection of low-end, low-cost hosts to enterprise SANs. The use of an Internet Protocol (IP) in the Fibre Channel (FC) environment provides for resource consolidation and disaster recovery planning over long distances. And the use of FC-FC routing services provides connectivity between two or more fabrics without having to merge them into a single SAN. This book targets storage network administrators, system designers, architects, and IT professionals who sell, design, or administer SANs. It introduces you to the products, concepts, and technology in the IBM System Storage SAN Routing portfolio. This book shows the features of each product and examples of how you can deploy and use them.

Abstract: RFID is a method of remotely storing and receiving data using devices called RFID tags. RFID tags can be small adhesive stickers containing antennas that receive and respond to transmissions from RFID transmitters. RFID tags are used to identify and track everything from food, dogs, beer kegs to library books. RFID tags use a standard that has already been hacked by several researchers. RFID Security discusses the motives for someone wanting to hack an RFID system and shows how to protect systems. Coverage includes: security breaches for monetary gain (hacking a shops RFID system would allow a hacker to lower the pricing on any product products). How to protect the supply chain (malicous/mischievous hackers can delete/alter/modify all identifying information for an entire shipment of products). How to protect personal privacy (privacy advocates fear that RFID tags embedded in products, which continue to transmit information after leaving a store, will be used to track consumer habits). The purpose of an RFID system is to enable data to be transmitted by a portable device, called a tag, which is read by an RFID reader and processed according to the needs of a particular application. The data transmitted by the tag may provide identification or location information, or specifics about the product tagged, such as price, colour, date of purchase, etc. . * Deloitte & Touche expects over 10 billion RFID tags to be in circulation by the end of 2005 * Parties debating the security issue of RFID need information on the pros and cons of the technology and this is that information * Little competition in a market desperate for information

Abstract: Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is a new approach to software development that helps companies manage large, complex software projects and save development costs while allowing new technologies that come along to be readily incorporated. Although it is based on many long-standing industry precepts and best practices, such as UML, it is enough of a departure from traditional IT approaches to require some "proof of the pudding." Real-Life MDA is composed of six case studies of real companies using MDA that will furnish that proof. The authors' approach MDA projects by describing all aspects of the project from the viewpoint of the end-users—from the reason for choosing an MDA approach to the results and benefits. The case studies are preceded by an introductory chapter and are followed by a wrap-up chapter summarizing lessons learned. Written for executives, analysts, architects, and engineers positioned to influence business-oriented software development at the highest levels Filled with concrete examples and analyses of how MDA is relevant for organizations of various sizes Considers a range of uses for MDA—from business process analysis to full-scale software modeling and development Presents results for each case study in terms of tangible, measured benefits, including automatically generated code, defect reduction, improved visibility, and ROI

Abstract: When Microsoft releases Windows Vista, the new operating system will support applications that employ graphics now used by computer games--clear, stunning, and active. The cornerstone for building these new user interfaces is XAML ("Zammel"), the XML-based markup language that works with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Vista's new graphics subsystem. An acronym for Extensible Application Markup Language, XAML offers a wealth of new controls and elements with exciting capabilities, including animation and rendering of 3D graphics. Windows developers are already jazzed by the possibilities of using XAML for fixed and flow format documents like PDF and HTML, 2D and 3D vector-based graphics, form development, animation, audio and video, transparent layering, and a lot more. Many feel that XAML will eliminate the need for multiple file formats or plug-ins (read: Flash), while lowering development costs and reducing time to market. The problem is, most developers don't know XAML. While it is fairly easy to understand, you still need a quick guide to bring you up to speed before Vista's release, and that's where this book's simple, no nonsense approach comes in. XAML in a Nutshell covers everything necessary to design user interfaces and .NET applications that take advantage of WPF. Prerequisites such as Microsoft's new unified build system, MSBuild, and core XAML constructs and syntax--including shortcuts--are all presented with plenty of examples to get you started. The Core XAML Reference section lets you dig even deeper into syntax rules and attributes for all XAML elements with a series of quick-reference chapters. This section divides XAML elements into logical categories of elements, controls, shapes and geometry, layout, animations, and transformations for easy reference. XAML in a Nutshell helps you learn, firsthand, how to use this XML-based markup language to implement the new generation of user interface graphics. As one reviewer noted, "Strong code examples and an efficient, conversational style take the tedium out of learning XAML and make the subject understandable--even interesting."

Abstract: The requirements for a database management system (DBMS) have included support for very large and complex data objects. DB2 UDB for OS/390 Version 6 introduced the support for large objects (LOBs): they can contain text documents, images, or movies, and can be stored directly in the DBMS with sizes up to 2 gigabytes per object and 65,536 TB for a single LOB column in a 4,096 partition table. The introduction of these new data types has implied some changes in the administration processes and programming techniques. The book Large Objects with DB2 for z/OS and OS/390, SG24-6571, introduced and described the usage of LOBs with DB2 for z/OS at Version 7 level. Major enhancements for LOB manipulation have been introduced with DB2 UDB for z/OS Version 8 and DB2 Version 9.1 for z/OS (DB2 9 in this book). These enhancements include performance functions such as the avoidance of LOB locks and DRDA LOB flow optimization, usability functions such as file reference variables, FETCH CONTINUE, and the automatic creation of objects. DB2 utilities provide integrated support with LOAD and UNLOAD, Cross Loader, REORG, CHECK DATA, and CHECK LOB. In this IBM Redbooks publication, we provide a totally revised description of the DB2 functions for LOB support as well as useful information about how to design and implement LOBs. We also offer examples of their use, programming considerations, and the enhanced processes used for their administration and maintenance. We also detail how SAP solutions use LOBs. This book replaces the previous book, Large Objects with DB2 for z/OS and OS/390, SG24-6571, for DB2 Version 8 and Version 9.1. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: Today, mainframe computers play a central role in the daily operations of most of the world’s largest corporations. While other forms of computing are used in business in various capacities, the mainframe occupies a prominent place in today’s e-business environment. In banking, finance, health care, insurance, utilities, government, and a multitude of other public and private enterprises, the mainframe computer continues to provide the foundation of large-scale computing to modern business. The reasons for mainframe use are many, but generally fall into one or more of the following categories: capacity, scalability, integrity and security, availability, access to large amounts of data, system management, and autonomic capabilities. This IBM Redbooks publication is designed for readers who already possess a basic knowledge of mainframe computing, but need a clearer understanding of how these concepts relate to mainframe planning, implementation, and operation. For readers who need more introductory information about mainframe concepts, usage, and architecture, we recommend that you complete Introduction to the New Mainframe: z/OS Basics, SG24-6366, prior to starting this book. And for more detailed information about z/OS programming topics, refer to the 11-volume book series ABCs of z/OS System Programming.

Abstract: This book helps engineers to grasp fundamental theories and design principles by presenting physical and intuitive explanations of switched-capacitor circuits. Numerous circuit examples are discussed and the author emphasizes the most important and fundamental principles involved in implementing state-of-the-art switched-capacitor circuits for analog signal processing and power management applications. Throughout the book, the author presents numerous step-by-step tutorials and gives practical design examples. While some quantitative analysis is necessary to understand underlying concepts, tedious mathematical equations and formal proofs are avoided. An intuitive appreciation for switched-capacitor circuits is achieved. Much of the existing information on contemporary switched-capacitor circuit applications is in the form of applications notes and data sheets for various switched-capacitor ICs. This book compiles such information in a single volume and coherently organizes and structures it. The author has his own website at www.mingliangliu.com * Step-by-step tutorials which emphasize the most fundamental principals of switched-capacitor circuits * Few tedious mathematical equations * The first easy-to-understand compilation on this subject--most information available is not very cohesive
