Abstract: Tor Hernes combines foundational ideas from philosophy, sociology, and organization theory into an integrative theoretical framework of organizational time. He explores the four dimensions of experience, events, resource, and practice, and how these evolve through mutual interplay and are underpinned by 'narrative trajectory'.

Abstract: This title provides a thought-provoking introduction to the severe and broad-ranging challenges that climate change presents and how societies can respond. It synthesizes and deploys cutting-edge scholarship on the range of social, economic, political, and philosophical issues surrounding climate change. The treatment is introductory, but the book is written 'with attitude', for nobody has yet charted in coherent, integrative, and effective fashion a way to movesocieties beyond their current paralysis as they face the challenges of climate change.

Abstract: A growing number of environmental groups focus on more sustainable practices in everyday life, from the development of new food systems, to community solar, to more sustainable fashion. No longer willing to take part in unsustainable practices and institutions, and not satisfied with either purely individualistic and consumer responses or standard political processes and movement tactics, many activists and groups are increasingly focusing on restructuring everyday practices of the circulation of the basic needs of everyday life. This work labels such action sustainable materialism, and examines the political and social motivations of activists and movement groups involved in this growing and expanding practice.

Abstract: Part I. The genesis of The Protestant ethic : and the history of Max Weber, c. 1884-1905. A problem -- A situation report c.1897 -- A narrative 1898-1905 -- Capitalism -- Politics and nationality -- Religion -- Rationality and law -- A whole text? -- Part II. The second history of The Protestant ethic : and of Max Weber, 1905-1920. 1905-1908 : going into hiberation -- The "anti-critical" essays -- Recalled to life : from the 'Protestant ethic' to 'economy and society' and the world religions -- War and peace : 1914-1920 -- Religiosity and modernity (I) -- Religiosity and modernity (II) -- Capitalism and Herrschaft -- From the sects to 'The city' : Max Weber 'the fairly pure bourgeois' -- Envoi: Who was Max Weber?
Abstract: This book presents an entirely new portrait of Max Weber, one of the most prestigious social theorists in recent history, using his most famous work, The Protestant ethic and the "Spirit" of capitalism, as its central point of reference. It offers an intellectual biography of Weber framed along historical lines -- something which has never been done before. It re-evaluates The Protestant ethic -- a text surprisingly neglected by scholars - supplying a missing intellectual and chronological centre to Weber's life and work. Peter Ghosh suggests that The Protestant ethic is the link which unites the earlier (pre-1900) and later (post-1910) phases of his career. He offers a series of fresh perspectives on Weber's thought in various areas - charisma, capitalism, law, politics, rationality, bourgeois life, and (not least) Weber's unusual religious thinking, which was 'remote from God' yet based on close dialogue with Christian theology. This approach produces a convincing view of Max Weber as a whole; while previously the sheer breadth of his intellectual interests has caused him to be read in a fragmentary way according to a series of specialized viewpoints, this volume seeks to put him back together again as a real individual

Abstract: How and why should we study Victorian Britain? The answer to this question used to be quite straightforward. It was the Victorian contribution to modern politics which stood out above all else. Today we are not so sure. This book suggest that politics are still central, but must be more broadly construed, as a pervasive part of Victorian culture as a whole. - ;In the last twenty years one of the classical arenas for British historical writing - the politics of Victorian Britain - has ceased to be an obvious or self-evidently important subject.
