    Abstract: Eine Frau schält die Knollen, schneidet sie in Stücke und stopft sie in Kokosnußschalen. Dazu gibt sie die Milch von gepreßtem Kokossamenfleisch und deckt sie zu. Dann bereitet sie einen Erdofen. Nach dem Dünsten werden die Behälter zerschlagen.
    Abstract: A woman shells pulaka tubers (a variety of dry taro) with a small axe and cuts them into pieces. Coconut shells are filled with the pulaka pieces and a mixture of coconut meat and milk. An earth oven is prepared in order to steam several of these "containers."

    Abstract: Nach Beschaffung von Bauholz und Kokospalmblättern im Busch für das Dach errichten mehrere Männer auf dem Siedlungsplatz in Gemeinschaftsarbeit eine 2,6 m lange, 1,75 m breite und 2 m hohe Erdofenhütte. Am zweiten Tag wird ein Erdofen für das abschließende gemeinsame Mahl angelegt.
    Abstract: Wood is cut in order to be used in the construction of a simple earthoven hut done in the old style. A native uses climbing cords and standing wood for assistance in cutting leaves from a coconut palm tree; the leaves are plaited into a roof covering. On the second work day the hut is finished and plans are made for the earthoven.

    Abstract: Mädchen flechten einen Korb aus einem frischen Kokospalmblatt und füllen ihn mit Düngeblättern. Ein alter Mann erntet eine Pulakaknolle und pflanzt ihren Stengel in die entstandene Grube, nachdem er die Blätter als Gründüngung in das Loch gelegt hat. Anschließend pflegt er ältere Pulaka, indem er Haltestäbe in den Boden steckt, diese mit geflochtenen Ringen zusammenhält und Gründüngung dazugibt.
    Abstract: Specially cultivated taro pits are used to grow a crude variety of dry taro (pulaka) on the coral island of Niutao. Typical cultivation work is shown here: girls collect leaves for the foundation; an old man harvests a pulaka tuber and plants the resulting stalks; and a one-year-old plant is treated with soil and fertilizing leaves.

Die Haken werden hinter dem Boot hergezogen. Die gefangenen Bonitos werden von dem achtern sitzenden Fischfangmeister mit einem Schwung eingeholt.
    Abstract: Large outrigger boats equipped with poles and typical mother-of-pearl hooks take to the sea in order to catch bonitos. Flocks of sea birds indicate the presence of the fish. As the boat moves quickly across the surface the hooks are pulled along in the water. As soon as a fish swallows a hook a master fisherman uses a pole to haul the bonito into the boat.

Das 9,95 m lange, 7,25 m breite und 5,35 m hohe, aus Holz erbaute und mit Pandanusblättern bedeckte Haus dient als Familienschlafhaus.
    Abstract: Gives a complete overview of the 19 working days needed to build a sleeping house on Niutao. The work is initiated by the master house builder who supervises the construction. The structure is a four-post house of rectangular design which has a large gabled roof and a straight ridge. Timber is cut from the surrounding bush; individual pieces are tied together with coconut-fiber cord. The roof is made up of treated pandanus leaves.

Nach einem Festmahl wird das fertiggestellte, brandungstüchtige Paddelboot auf dem offenen Meer erprobt.
    Abstract: Shows all of the important phases of construction as a master boat builder and his people build an outrigger boat in the old style of Niutao. Trees are felled and individual parts are cut out of them - the hull, bow and stern pieces, planks, outrigger, etc. Precision and the assembly process are done and coconut-fiber cord is used to connect the pieces. After eight working days the craft is finished; a feast is held, and the boat is tested in the open sea.
