But just what is psychological safety, and how can you foster a workplace that prioritises it? In this track, we'll explore the concept and investigate the benefits. Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. Globalisation is typically defined "as the increased flow of goods, services, capital, people, and ideas across international boundaries." This integration of economic, social, and cultural activities has resulted in the greater interconnectedness of people, cultures, and economies worldwide. Some significant benefits are associated with globalisation, such as increased trade, greater living standards and improved technology for some. But this is unfortunately not the full story, as it is also linked to adverse effects on the environment, society, and economic stability. In this track, we will explore the connection between globalisation and sustainability and the need for global cooperation to combine the two concepts successfully. We will also examine how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can guide us towards a brighter, prosperous, and far more sustainable future. Globalisation has enabled us to be more connected to one another than ever. The rapid increase in technological advancements and regional integration has led to the formation of advanced economies. Domestic businesses grow into international ones and further contribute to the spread of technologies. Core aspects of globalisation include increased international trade and cooperation. There is also the concept of 'social globalisation', meaning the transfer of ideas and information between countries. Learning Objectives Identify what globalisation is Examine the links between globalisation and sustainability Discover methods for collective action to combat climate change.

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. Many companies strive to be more environmentally and socially responsible by integrating sustainability into their strategies and operations. Effective communication of sustainability practices and goals to stakeholders is paramount. It's crucial to inform and actively involve your stakeholders - including customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers, regulators, and local communities. The effective communication of sustainability practices and goals to stakeholders helps to grow trust, enhance reputation, and create value for everyone involved, including the company itself. Today, we will delve deeper into the well-established benefits of optimising your sustainability communications and share some tips for leaders on how best to go about this. So, what exactly is sustainability in a business context? The UN defines sustainability as "the practice of meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Businesses must become more environmentally friendly and ethical to make their practices viable and resilient over the long term. Common sustainability practices include reducing carbon emissions, conserving resources, promoting social equity and fostering innovation. These goals are also referred to in consolidated form as an environment, social and governance (ESG) strategy, which is no longer just a "nice-to-have". Rather, it is now an integral part of how businesses operate and something that stakeholders expect. Learning Objectives Identify how to inform and involve your stakeholders Discover the benefits of optimising your sustainability communications Examine the importance of transparency and accountability

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. In this track, we will take a look at how this applies to the workplace and why it matters. Then we'll provide actionable steps for how to go green at work. So what is sustainability? According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, "Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. To pursue sustainability is to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present and future generations." So this is not only about single-use plastic cups but a broader need to reduce our impact on the environment. Like most professionals, Sophie spends a huge part of her day - and by extension, a huge part of her life- in the workplace. If millions of people in offices take sustainability seriously, it could have a huge effect on the environment CB Bhattacharya, the Director of the Center for Sustainable Business, notes that it's easy to feel like sustainability is somebody else's problem. He says, "While most organizations talk the talk of sustainability -- doing things such as integrating environmental and societal concerns into their business models -- very few walk the walk." Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. The term Environmental, Social, and Governance, abbreviated to ESG, relates to the investing sphere. In all sectors, companies look for investors. ESG is an important concept for all kinds of people, including employees, CEOs, investors, and government officials. By the end of this track, you'll know what ESG is, how it looks in practice and its advantages and disadvantages. You will also be able to identify the dilemmas businesses that want to pursue ESG principles come up against. ESG is a framework that third-party companies and research groups use to identify whether a company is a viable investment opportunity. Dr Jean Rogers, founder of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, created the framework so that 'investors could compare performance on critical social and environmental issues, and capital could be directed to the most sustainable outcomes.' ESG is an alternative to the widely held belief that companies can only be sustainable when they focus on the environment. In the investing sphere, ESG is a set of criteria (or standards) that socially and economically conscious investors use to decide whether they want to invest. Learning Objectives Identify what Environmental, Social, and Governance means Discover examples for each of the three facets of ESG investing Establish some of the advantages and disadvantages of ESG investing.

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. In the words of legendary American businessman Harold Geneen, "It is an immutable law in business that words are words, explanations are explanations, promises are promises-but only performance is reality." One of the biggest challenges for leaders is creating an environment that inspires consistent, reliable effectiveness. If you don't nurture a culture that encourages your employees to continually push themselves to improve, even the most talented employees might not meet their full potential. Their motivation could wane if they're not committed to your organisation's goals and don't feel a solid sense of purpose. How your company operates day-to-day can provide a snapshot of how staff feel and indicate their dedication levels. Perhaps there's a sense of lethargy, unhappiness or restlessness. Maybe an office, once characterised by progress, creativity, and dynamism, has transformed into something slightly disappointing. Today, we'll cover what high-performance culture is, what drives it, and how you can sustain it in your workplace. A high-performance culture is one in which your employees are truly driven to deliver the best possible results by feeling engaged and appreciated. Peter Done, the founder of business services specialist Peninsula Group, said, "In a nutshell, it's a culture that empowers employees to work toward your company's success. Learning Objectives Establish what high-performance culture is Examine why a high-performance culture matters Discover how to create a high-performance culture

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. What exactly is social sustainability, and how do we collectively achieve it? Today we will break down its core definitions and examine how it relates to your work. The United Nations classified it as "identifying and managing business impacts, both positive and negative, on people." It's a crucial concept for companies at any stage of their development because it reflects how they treat their employees. It highlights what they value and where their priorities lie. Social sustainability focuses on how businesses interact with their stakeholders and how conscious organisations are of their impact on individuals and communities. In recent years, it has become a global cause in its own right, forefronting the well-being and needs of people rather than just physical and environmental considerations. When you initially think of sustainability, you might think of the climate crisis. The term climate change, for example, refers to shifts in temperatures and weather patterns and describes rising sea levels, heat waves, shrinking glaciers, and other physical changes. But it's not only a geographical phenomenon. Social sustainability examines how work, family, local communities, inequality, climate crises, the law, and broad societal changes link to people's daily lives. It deals with anything concerning the welfare of humans. Learning Objectives Establish how to incorporate social sustainability into your business Examine the definition, applications and impacts of social sustainability Discover different approaches to being socially sustainable

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, around a quarter of all employees view their job as the top stressor in their life. But it's not all doom and gloom! The good news is that decades of research have shown us that resilience is built by attitudes and behaviours that can be adopted and cultivated by anyone. So, what are the key factors that lead to resilience? According to Harvard Business Review, the main ones 'include optimism; the ability to stay balanced and manage strong or difficult emotions; a sense of safety and a strong social support system.' The takeaway from this is that since there's a concrete, well-established set of behaviours and skills associated with resilience, you, too, can learn to be more resilient! Let's start with the fundamentals: self-care. Due to the unavoidable demands of the job - where high energy levels are often required and stressful situations need to be effectively dealt with - it's paramount for customer service employees to prioritise both their mental and physical health. Learning Objectives Identify what resilience is Establish the fundamentals of self-care Identify what you can and can't control.

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. In this track, we will be looking at concise writing, why it is important to communicate effectively, and actionable steps to improve your writing. According to the Stanford Engineering STEM style guide, "writing clearly and concisely means choosing your words deliberately and precisely, constructing your sentences carefully to eliminate deadwood, and using grammar properly." By writing clearly and concisely, you will get straight to your point in a way your audience can easily comprehend. Simply put, "Concise writing means using the fewest words possible to convey an idea." So why do we need to write in this way? "Readers and audiences treasure concise writing", notes a Masterclass article, "Concise sentences and paragraphs grip your reader's attention and help them focus on your main point." "Reading sprawling sentences can feel overwhelming, confusing, or boring." says Mira Khanna, Strategic Product Marketer at Grammarly, "It can confuse readers by making it harder for them to quickly identify the main point of what you're trying to communicate. After all, they have to sift through the extra verbiage and hunt for the key points of your message. Making readers do unnecessary work can make them grumpy, and grumpy readers are less receptive to what you have to say" Learning Objectives Identify what concise writing is Examine the importance of writing concisely Discover actionable steps that will help you to write more effectively.

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. The further we get into the 21st Century, the more apparent it becomes that we're reaching a crucial turning point. The need for a better and more conscientious focus on sustainability is a global issue, and many businesses can do their part to help protect the environment. For understandable reasons, there has been significant pushback to this in the business world. Many business owners speculate that the rewards of introducing more sustainable methods to their business would not be worth the overall cost. And while this is an understandable position, it might not be accurate. There is a strong business case for sustainability based on various factors. In this track, let's take a look at the business case for sustainability. Learning Objectives Examine why businesses should introduce sustainable practices. Establish the impact sustainable practices could have on a business's employees and customers. Identify how sustainability can encourage innovation.

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. You will have heard the word sustainability in many contexts, but it's specifically corporate sustainability that we're focusing on today. We're looking at sustainability and its connection to companies and organisations. This track will examine what corporate sustainability is and explain why it's so important. It'll give you the information you need to implement sustainable practices, rules, and frameworks in your corporate environment. Corporate sustainability concerns corporations delivering goods and services in a sustainable manner. If we dissect the phrase even further, it relates to a corporation's ability to maintain the environment around them. Some corporations take this one step further by improving the surrounding environment, but most businesses don't run before they can walk. It's important to note that corporate sustainability is not only concerned with the environment. Environmental concerns are one of the factors in deciding whether a corporation is sustainable, but social and economic considerations are undoubtedly relevant here too. Learning Objectives Discover what corporate sustainability is Explore examples of corporate sustainability Recognise the three pillars of corporate sustainability.

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. It's safe to say that not a single day passes in the life of a customer service worker without the need for some sort of negotiation. It's a vital skill, and mastering it can make all the difference between a content customer and a dissatisfied one. It's not just about getting what you want; it's about finding a solution that satisfies both parties involved. In this track, we will explore the art of negotiation in customer service, discussing the skills and techniques needed to negotiate successfully with customers. Any effective negotiation with a customer must begin with a full understanding of the customer's needs and concerns. This means actively listening to the customer so that you're better able to understand the root cause of their problem and efficiently work towards finding a solution that meets their requirements. Learning Objectives Discover what effective negotiation entails Establish how to unveil a customer's needs and concerns Examine the advantages of effective nonverbal communication.

People always want to be sure that they are purchasing a good product. Simply put, customer objections are any problems your customer might have with buying or using your product or service. Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. It's no secret that service-industry jobs can be full of uncomfortable encounters. People who work in hospitality, tourism, and retail jobs are likely to experience stress as a result of disagreements with customers. Learning how to defuse an argument is a valuable skill, especially when it means that you can protect your short-term and long-term health. But why do arguments happen? Rising tensions, broken promises, and personal issues can all cause a customer to raise their voice and cause a disruption. One study from the Institute of Customer Service found that 56% of the customer-service employees surveyed experienced 'increasing levels of hostility' during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we can see, arguments can happen for any number of reasons. Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid conflict in customer-facing positions. The only solution is to assess the situation and react appropriately. Learning Objectives Identify why arguments occur Establish how to stay calm in stressful situations Examine why physical and verbal communication is important Develop your knowledge of de-escalation techniques.

Abstract: Growth is the goal. To help people develop their potential, to articulate and become the self that they want to be, are capable of being, and that best serves them and others in the short and long term is what we as individuals and leaders strive toward. But how do we grow? It turns out it happens in a predictable way, which means we can understand where we are in our growth and chart a way forward. In this compact, complete guide, Whitney Johnson helps you envision how growth happens and proactively direct yourself, or others in your organization, to help make the leaps needed to achieve goals. The growth and learning journey comes in three phases, the Launch Point, the Sweet Spot, and the High End, and within each phase, we play roles that keep us moving toward our goals. Compelling examples of successful people will show you when growth is slow and why, and how to keep going, and what to do when growth and learning are almost too fast to keep up with, and how to leap from one growth journey to another. As individuals grow so do organizations and societies. Growth is learning put into action, ideally action that betters the world as we better ourselves and our small niches within it, both personal and professional. Growth occurs when learning is internalized, when we try something new and invest the effort to move it from being something we do, to something we are.

Abstract: For decades, Democratic politicians have frustrated progressives by tinkering around the margins of policy while shying away from truly ambitious change. What happened to bold political vision on the left, and what shrunk the very horizons of possibility? In Thinking like an Economist, Elizabeth Popp Berman tells the story of how a distinctive way of thinking-an "economic style of reasoning"-became dominant in Washington between the 1960s and the 1980s and how it continues to dramatically narrow debates over public policy today. Introduced by liberal technocrats who hoped to improve government, this way of thinking was grounded in economics. At its core was an economic understanding of efficiency, and its advocates often found themselves allied with Republicans and in conflict with liberal Democrats who argued for rights, equality, and limits on corporate power. By the Carter administration, economic reasoning had spread throughout government policy and laws affecting poverty, healthcare, antitrust, transportation, and the environment. Thinking like an Economist offers critical lessons for the future. With the political left resurgent today, Democrats seem poised to break with the past-but doing so will require abandoning the shibboleth of economic efficiency and successfully advocating new ways of thinking about policy.

Abstract: Imagine living in a world in which you were routinely patronized by women. Imagine having your views ignored or your expertise frequently challenged by them. Imagine people always addressing the woman you are with before you. Now imagine a world in which the reverse of this is true. The Authority Gap provides a startling perspective on the unseen bias at work in our everyday lives, to reveal the scale of the gap that still persists between men and women. Would you believe that US Supreme Court Justices are interrupted four times more often than male ones . . . 96% of the time by men? Or that British parents, when asked to estimate their child's IQ, will place their son at 115 and their daughter at 107? Marshalling a wealth of data with precision and insight, and including interviews with pioneering women such as Baroness Hale, Mary Beard, and Bernadine Evaristo, Mary Ann Sieghart exposes unconscious bias in this fresh feminist take on how to address and counteract systemic sexism in ways that benefit us all.

Abstract: The way we do business in the US and across the world has changed. We now meet through Zoom, Skype, Meet, and Teams. Those who sell virtually are likely to suffer a longer sales process. Since 82% of communication is non-verbal, virtual communication is difficult. There are many challenges in selling virtually. Virtual communication prevents us from generating as much trust as we could in face-to-face selling. The Virtual Sale is more abbreviated and condensed than a face-to-face engagement. It is also difficult to book appointments from Virtual Webinars. It is harder to close virtually since it is so easy for prospects and clients to stall you. Most business strategists believe that virtual communication is here to stay. Either you learn how to communicate on the virtual platform or your sales will permanently suffer. But if you can Master the Virtual Sale, your production will be even greater than in a face-to-face environment. In Mastering the Virtual Sale, you will learn how to: create trust using the virtual platform; book webinar appointments that don't cancel; increase your sales by 38% in 30 days using Virtual Sales techniques; prevent framing, sound, and video distractions; use the 5 Step Bridge to talk prospects and clients into buying from you; and explode your business with the "7 Strategies."

Abstract: Uncompromising explores seven pathways to help you identify and live your why-leading to an impactful life and a lasting legacy. Steve White's path from the housing projects to president of Comcast West was punctuated by defining-and often heart-wrenching-moments. Moments that helped him identify what matters most and how he positively made a difference in his life and in those around him. As one of four boys raised by a single mother, Steve's life could easily have taken a different path. Instead, armed with his mother's determination that her sons make a better life for themselves and his own refusal to be shaped by his circumstances, Steve forged a path to extraordinary professional and personal achievement. Steve's lessons from every stage of life, and the people who influenced him along the way, form the basis of his overarching message: An uncompromising life is one where you stay true to what is important to you, what you believe in, and what you love. This leads to more fulfillment, purpose, and a lasting legacy. Steve's hard-won insights will help you pursue what matters most and discover where you can make the biggest difference.

Abstract: When you think of a successful entrepreneur, who comes to mind? Bill Gates? Mark Zuckerberg? Or maybe even Jesse Eisenberg, the man who played Zuckerberg in The Social Network? It may surprise you that most successful founders look very different from Zuckerberg or Gates. In fact, most startup origin stories are very different from the famous "unicorns" that have achieved valuations of over $1 billion, from Facebook to Google to Uber. In The Unicorn's Shadow Ethan Mollick takes us to the forefront of an empirical revolution in entrepreneurship. New data and better research methods have overturned the conventional wisdom behind what a successful founder looks like, how they succeed, and how the startup ecosystem works. Among the issues he examines: which founders are most likely to succeed?; where do the best startup ideas come from?; what's the most foolproof way of securing the funding needed to take a company to the next level?; and what's the best way to grow and scale your company and create a thriving culture that won't hinder expansion? Mollick argues that entrepreneurship is too important, both for society and for the individuals who start companies, to be eclipsed by the shadows of unicorns. He shows we can democratize entrepreneurship-but only by following an evidence-based approach that puts to rest the false narratives that surround it.

Abstract: A clear and concise roadmap for ethical business behavior using commonsense moral principles Business Ethics for Better Behavior concisely answers the three most pressing ethical questions business professionals face: What makes business practices right or wrong?; Why do normal, decent businesspeople of good will sometimes do the wrong thing?; and How can we use the answer to these questions to get ourselves, our coworkers, our bosses, and our employees to behave better? Bad behavior in business rarely results from bad will. Most people mean well much of the time. But most of us are vulnerable. We all fall into moral traps, usually without even noticing. Business Ethics for Better Behavior teaches business professionals, students, and other listeners how to become aware of those traps, how to avoid them, and how to dig their way out if they fall in. It integrates the best work in psychology, economics, management theory, and normative philosophy into a simple action plan for ensuring the best ethical performance at all levels of business practice. This is a book anyone in business, from an entry-level employee to CEO, can use.

Abstract: The literature of ideas. When author Pamela Sargent used those words to describe science fiction in 1975, the genre had exploded into the literary mainstream. As a literature of ideas, science fiction has proven to be a powerful metaphor for the world around us, offering a rich tapestry of imagination through which to explore how we lead, how we think, and how we interact. To Boldly Go assembles more than thirty writers from around the world to help us better understand ourselves through the lens of science fiction. Each chapter of To Boldly Go draws out the lessons that we can learn from science fiction, drawing on classic examples of the genre. A chapter on the burdens of leadership by Ghost Fleet author August Cole launches readers into the cosmos with Captain Avatar aboard the space battleship Yamato. In another chapter, the climactic Battle of the Mutara Nebula from The Wrath of Khan weighs the advantages of experience over intelligence in the pursuit of strategy. Whether using Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to explore the nuances of maritime strategy or The Expanse to better understand the threat posed by depleted natural resources, To Boldly Go provides thoughtful essays on relevant subjects that will appeal to business leaders, military professionals, and fans of science fiction alike.
