Abstract: It is becoming increasingly challenging for product development leaders to effectively lead as workplace demands continue to increase. The rate of change in technology, society, and business places immense pressure on leaders to ensure their groups move in the direction of their goals. What might have worked in the past no longer works. Organizational surveys show that firms struggle with leadership. Product development leaders routinely complain of burnout and stress while their teams members complain of workplace dissatisfaction, resulting in organizational underperformance. The lack of evidence-based leadership literature for product development leaders means that many leaders are left to figure things out with little guidance. They do not have a reliable resource that they can refer to when they face leadership challenges and, as a result, struggle during times of crisis and change. This book addresses this challenge by providing a theory-informed set of techniques for product development leaders. Becoming a Leader in Product Development provides an evidence-base set of practices for product development leaders. In doing so, it explores what leadership is and the leader's role in the leadership process, the impact of national culture and organizational culture on the leadership process, and the need for product development leaders to practice adaptive and servant leadership, followership, and self-care. The underlying theories for each topic are reviewed and then brought to life through stories and examples. What You Will Learn See the difference between authority, persuasion, and influence and how leaders can use these constructs to benefit their organizations Gain the skills for practicing servant and adaptive leadership in your organization Examine the blind spots of each leadership theory Discover the importance of adapting leader behavior to the national culture and organizational culture where you find yourself Who This Book Is For Product development leaders (starting with product development managers) who want to go beyond leadership anecdotes to evidence-based leadership practice. A secondary audience is individuals aspiring to product development leadership positions.

Abstract: Building a chat server is a great way to learn the Tokio library because a chat server forces you to think about concurrent IO, which is the core purpose of Tokio. Lily demonstrates how you can spawn background tasks to manage independent network streams, and use tokio::select! to concurrently poll tasks which require a shared state. The lessons learned here can be applied generally to all kinds of asynchronous coding challenges in Rust. From the author of Refactoring to Rust.

Abstract: Take advantage of the full power of Swift through XPC. Development for macOS differs from iOS and web-based development because of multicomponent applications. Besides the usual GUI-based applications and app extensions, there are a wide range of daemons—processes that run in the background—to worry about. These include system monitoring, event listening, notification agents, and many-many more. First, you'll take a tour around different types of daemons: user agents, privileged helpers, login items, XPC services, and System Extensions. Knowing key specifics of the daemons will open a wide range of possibilities from non-trivial application development to system development. You'll find lots of examples, working code samples, and even ready-to-use utilities. The book will guide you step-by-step through preparation, registration, and management of all kinds of daemons. System Extensions are brand new for macOS and open additional powerful features for developers. You'll explore installation, user flow, and communication with System Extensions, too, with examples, of course. XPC provides an object-oriented way of communication. There’s no need for custom byte/text-based protocols. A good macOS developer has to know not only programming interfaces, but also design patterns related to technology. XPC communication has a few patterns of its own, and we'll go through them all, including uni- and bi-directional communication, passing objects by-value and by-proxy, handling connection invalidation, named and anonymous connections, and many more. What You'll Learn Use multiples types of daemons in your applications Deal with System Extensions – the new type of system daemons Get acquainted with Swift bridging patterns for XPC communication Who This Book Is For Software developers and solution architects with at least a working knowledge of macOS and Swift programming. As overview, may be interested for software/solution architects.

Abstract: Clustering is an important functionality in the Internet of Things (IoT). It allows multiple devices to act as one and coordinate the work between themselves. If you use .NET for developing distributed IoT applications, you can use a library called SignalR. This library facilitates real-time two-way communication between the client and the server with minimal setup code. So, once the client makes the initial connection request, there is no longer request-response mechanism in place. Messages can travel both ways while the connection is live.

Abstract: In this video, you will explore forecasting techniques in Python, including how to use machine learning models from Scikit Learn, as well as integrating R as a sub process to gain access to the robust forecast library, incorporating the auto.arima and tbats models. We create our own Python class called Forecaster that stores all of the relevant information about the predictions, including error metrics, model forms, hyperparameter selections, and the forecasts themselves. The module is written in such a way that models can easily be added to the framework for increasing accuracy. In the specific scenario, we are forecasting on 150 separate time series—3 time series for each state using economic indicators from the St. Louis Federal Reserve (FRED) website. We build an API to extract the data and add our own indicators that we think will influence the future. At the time that this video is published, the country is experiencing a recession from the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, we will extract the recession indicator from the FRED website and make assumptions about how long the recession will last. Using this information, we create an economic outlook for each state. These forecasts can then be used to see which states we expect to recover most quickly from the recession. This modeling process will be done in Python on a Jupyter Notebook, so it's a good idea to have Anaconda installed on your computer so you can follow along. The rpy2 library from Python will be utilized, so having R installed in your local environment is necessary. What You Will Learn Create classes in Python Make predictions with machine learning and common forecasting models Manipulate data with Pandas Store data in base Python structures (lists, dictionaries) Create APIs and visual aids Who This Book Is For Data scientists with experience who are looking to take their forecasting skills to the next level.

Abstract: Discover how to apply software engineering patterns to develop more robust firmware faster than traditional embedded development approaches. In the authors’ experience, traditional embedded software projects tend towards monolithic applications that are optimized for their target hardware platforms. This leads to software that is fragile in terms of extensibility and difficult to test without fully integrated software and hardware. Patterns in the Machine focuses on creating loosely coupled implementations that embrace both change and testability. This book illustrates how implementing continuous integration, automated unit testing, platform-independent code, and other best practices that are not typically implemented in the embedded systems world is not just feasible but also practical for today’s embedded projects. After reading this book, you will have a better idea of how to structure your embedded software projects. You will recognize that while writing unit tests, creating simulators, and implementing continuous integration requires time and effort up front, you will be amply rewarded at the end of the project in terms of quality, adaptability, and maintainability of your code. Abstract: Learn how free software became open source and how you can sell open source software. This book provides a historical context of how open source has thoroughly transformed how we write software, how we cooperate, how we communicate, how we organize, and, ultimately, how we think about business values. This fully updated second edition includes an entire chapter on legal considerations such as trademarks and the latest happenings in open source licensing. It also expands on open hardware trends such as RISC-V, open governance, and the difference between community projects and commercial products, especially as seen through the lens of security. You’ll look at project and community examples including Linux, BSD, Apache, and Kubernetes, understand the open source development model, and how open source has influenced approaches more broadly, even within proprietary software, such as open betas. You'll also examine the flipside, the "Second Machine Age," and the challenges of open source-based business models. Today, open source serves as shorthand for much broader trends and behaviors. It’s not just about a free (in all senses of the word) alternative to commercial software. It increasingly is the new commercial software. How Open Source Ate Software, second edition reveals how open source has much in common, and is often closely allied, with many other trends in business and society. You'll see how it enables projects that go beyond any individual company. That makes open source not just a story about software, but a story about almost everything. What You'll Learn The opportunities that open source creates and the challenges that come with them The ways in which companies can create business models to successfully sell "free" software How the open source development model works from creating communities to selling commercial products The important issues associated with open source project and product governance and licensing How open source principles can apply more broadly to DevOps and other organizational practices Who This Book Is For Anyone who is contemplating building a community and a business around open source software.

This book also shows you how to prevent them from occurring in new programs. A large chunk of the world’s biggest organizations use SAP software and virtually all of them have very large amounts of custom code. However, a lot of that custom code is not as good as it could be. In this book we look at why object-oriented programming is the basic building block for improved program quality and at the test-driven development that this enables. We cover the three pillars of clarity, stability, and high performance on which a high-quality ABAP program stands. You will then move on to the user interface, which needs its own set of standards for high quality. In the final chapters, you will learn about specialist topics such as user exits, making sure code will run on the latest releases of SAP, and how to add your own automated custom code quality checks. What You Will Learn Know why object-oriented programming and test-driven development are the cornerstones of high-quality custom code Ensure that the three pillars of clarity, stability, and high performance are fulfilled Make sure your applications are user friendly Ensure that your custom code works on newer SAP releases Create your own custom code quality checks Who This Book Is For ABAP developers who started yesterday or have been programming for 20 years

Abstract: So far, little effort has been devoted to developing practical approaches on how to develop and deploy AI systems that meet certain standards and principles. This is despite the importance of principles such as privacy, fairness, and social equality taking centre stage in discussions around AI. However, for an organization, failing to meet those standards can give rise to significant lost opportunities. It may further lead to an organization’s demise, as the example of Cambridge Analytica demonstrates. It is, however, possible to pursue a practical approach for the design, development, and deployment of sustainable AI systems that incorporates both business and human values and principles. This book discusses the concept of sustainability in the context of artificial intelligence. In order to help businesses achieve this objective, the author introduces the sustainable artificial intelligence framework (SAIF), designed as a reference guide in the development and deployment of AI systems. The SAIF developed in the book is designed to help decision makers such as policy makers, boards, C-suites, managers, and data scientists create AI systems that meet ethical principles. By focusing on four pillars related to the socio-economic and political impact of AI, the SAIF creates an environment through which an organization learns to understand its risk and exposure to any undesired consequences of AI, and the impact of AI on its ability to create value in the short, medium, and long term. What You Will Learn See the relevance of ethics to the practice of data science and AI Examine the elements that enable AI within an organization Discover the challenges of developing AI systems that meet certain human or specific standards Explore the challenges of AI governance Absorb the key factors to consider when evaluating AI systems Who This Book Is For Decision makers such as government officials, members of the C-suite and other business managers, and data scientists as well as any technology expert aspiring to a data-related leadership role.

Abstract: Work with Db2 to write SQL and access databases using optimized code for the fastest response. This book will give you complete documentation on DB2 via Python for the IBM_db module and provide a number of examples for the usage of each module API. Begin by getting your free version of Db2 for Linux and Windows. While the book concentrates more on the Linux version of Db2, it also covers enough of the Windows version so that you're comfortable with obtaining and installing Db2 on your version of Windows. Next, you'll see how to install the sample database that comes with Db2, and take some data from the web to design a database around it, including tables and indexes. For Db2 to be really useful you need to use strong SQL expressions. This book provides specific examples of how to avoid using poor ones that can cause extra processing time for the query. Lastly, you'll look at each API in the ibm_db and ibm_db_dbi module. This module is not sponsored by IBM and must be installed separately from the Db2 database. After reading Foundation Db2 and Python you'll be able to install Db2 on Windows or Linux, and perform backups and restore data. What You'll Learn Obtain and install Db2 properly on Linux and Windows Create databases and load them on Db2 Work with ibm_db and ibm_db_dbi API modules for Python Write SQL for Db2 Review the future of the ibm_db Python module Who This Book Is For Python programmers and DB2 administrators interested in building application with Python and DB2

Abstract: Create your own collection of Lookup Tables (LUTs) for Photoshop and video rather than buying from a third party. This video will explain what a Look or Lumetri LUT is, how to create these tables from adjustment layers and apply them successfully as a new single adjustment layer in Photoshop, or reuse them in Adobe Media Encoder for short video clips. The tutorial starts with an overview of LUTs, its history, usage, kinds, color modes, file formats and what Adobe programs use or can create LUTs. You will also find out why you should create your own LUTs. Next, you will learn about best practices when creating a LUT and how to group the adjustment layers correctly as well as look at how you can apply your LUT as a color lookup adjustment layer in Photoshop and further modifications and settings you can apply to that adjustment layer. Finally, you will learn to apply your LUT file to a video clip or stitched clips in Media Encoder. You will also find some advice on where to store your LUT files to maintain the same linkage. What You Will Learn Learn to create your own LUTs How these same files can be reused for video Learn how LUTs can be reused from Photoshop Projects Who This Book is For Graphic artists who may have only beginner experience in how to create LUTs and how to use them in videos.
