Abstract: This book focuses on classic capital raising. That is, it covers the debt vs. equity decision, the options available to smaller businesses, and the considerations that lead to rapid growth, including venture capital, IPOs, angels, incubators, and so forth. Raising Entreprenuerial Capital begins where entrepreneurship books leave off, assuming that the reader understands simple financial statements, has selected a specific business, and knows how to write a business plan. It provides a broad, high-level summary of the subjects that people typically research, such as "How should your company position itself to attract private equity investment?" and "What steps can you take to improve your company's marketability?" Unlike other books of the genre, Raising Entrepreneurial Capital includes several chapters on worldwide regional variations on forms and availability of pre-seed capital, incubators, and the business plans they create, with case-studies from Europe, Latin America, and the Pacific-Rim. * Combines solid theory with practitioner's experience and insights * Case studies illustrate theory throughout the book * Describes worldwide and regional variations in capital raising strategies

Abstract: The contribution of research and development to a company's market value has grown considerably in recent years. In the mid-1970s, accountants were able to capture on their ledgers 90-95% of a firm's book value, but by 2000 the importance of intangible assets had grown to the point where they could account for only 13-15%. Financial economists and accountants have investigated the link between a firm's market value and its R&D spending, and various factions advocate a variety of positions on the amount and rate of investment, investors' ability to capture returns on that investment, and ways to measure value, investment, and returns. 'Tech Stock Valuation' extends the R&D literature by providing detailed direct evidence on the market value implications of inventive and innovative output. Specifically, the book demonstrates that stock-price effects of patent output are most pronounced in the case of of high-quality patents, where patent quality is measured by scientific merit. Scientific measures of patent quality give tech stock investors and R&D managers a valuable new tool that can be used to measure R&D program effectiveness. At the same time, it gives investors a new tool to help them assess the value of hard-to-measure intangible assets. *Provides detailed direct evidence on the market value implications of inventive and innovative output *Based on recent research, much of which Dr. Hirschey has pioneered *Gives financial professionals a new tool for assessing R&D quality and its relation to market valuation

Abstract: This introduction for practitioners offers a balanced view of project financing, integrating legal, contractual, scheduling, and other areas that participate in large multiparty projects, large single-asset purchases, and broad-based financing programs for fleets of assets. It mixes theories and case studies but avoids becoming too oriented toward applications in any one particular industry. It focuses on the concepts and techniques required by project finance people without being overly academic or beset by case studies. The author, who has a legal background, recognizes that some legal information is necessary, but he doesn't attempt to write a law book. Project Finance refers to the techniques of financing projects which are dependent on cash flows for repayment, as defined by the contractual relationships within each project. By their very nature, these types of projects rely on a large number of integrated contractual arrangements for successful completion and operation. Project finance is an element within the larger field of project management. Many organizations around the world utilize project management to enable innovative processes, to plan, organize, and control strategic initiatives, to monitor enterprise performance, to analyze significant deviations, and to forecast their impact on the organization and project(s). Project management can be found in many industries today, from construction and information systems to healthcare, financial services, education, and training. Key Features: -A comprehensive and authoritative guide to the theory and practice of project finance. -An international scope, covering projects in both the developed and developing worlds. -The book describes and explains: -Sources of project finance. -Typical commercial contracts (such as those for construction of the project and sale of its product or services) and their impact on the project finance structure. -Project finance risk assessment from the points of view of lenders, investors, and other project parties. -Structuring the project finance debt. -The key issues in negotiating a project finance debt facility. -Extensive glossary and cross-referencing. -No prior knowledge of project finance or financing techniques is assumed.

Abstract: The key to understanding household saving is obtaining appropriate data. Dealing with differences between rich and poor households, for example, or the old and the young, require observation of a large number of households. The focus of this study is to obtain data on many households from a number of different countries and to examine them in a coherent fashion. The hope is that through these observations we can learn about the ways policies affect savings and that other differences among savers can be controlled for, instead of being blamed on "cultural differences * Features a consistent framework among chapters * Reaches a harmony between measurement and analysis to compare accurately the resulting data and statistics * Provides econometric methodology to reveal the way policies affect savings
