Abstract: As Linux on System z becomes more prevalent and mainstream in the industry, the need for it to deliver higher levels of availability is increasing. This IBM Redbooks publication starts with an explanation of high availability (HA) fundamentals such as HA concepts and terminology. It continues with a discussion of why a business needs to consider an HA solution and then explains how to determine your business single points of failure. We outline the components of a high availability solution and describe these components. Then we provide some architectural scenarios and demonstrate how to plan and decide an implementation of an end-to-end HA solution, from Linux on System z database scenarios to z/OS, and include storage, network, z/VM, Linux, and middleware. This implementation includes the IBM Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms (TSA MP), which monitors and automates applications distributed across Linux, AIX®, and z/OS® operating systems, as well as a GDPS based solution. It includes the planning for an end-to-end scenario, considering Linux on System z, z/VM, and z/OS operating environments, and the middleware used. The TSA MP implements HA for infrastructure, network, operating systems, and applications across multiple platforms and is compared to a Linux HA implementation based on open source Linux-HA, which is Linux only.

Abstract: Throughout the history of the IT industry, integration has been an important part of most projects. Whether it is integration of transactions, data, or processes, each has challenges and associated patterns and antipatterns. In an age of mobile devices, social networks, and cloud services, and big data analytics, integration is more important than ever, but the scope of the challenge for IT projects has changed. Partner APIs, social networks, physical sensors and devices, all of these and more are important sources of capability or insight. It is no longer sufficient to integrate resources under control of the enterprise, because many important resources are in the ecosystem beyond enterprise boundaries. With this as the basic tenet, we address these questions: What are the current integration patterns that help enterprises become and remain competitive? How do you choose when to use which pattern? What is the topology for a "composable business"? And how do you accelerate the process of implementation through intelligent choice of supporting integration middleware? This IBM® Redbooks® publication guides integration practitioners and architects in choosing integration patterns and technologies.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes how the IBM Big Data Platform provides the integrated capabilities that are required for the adoption of Information Governance in the big data landscape. As organizations embark on new use cases, such as Big Data Exploration, an enhanced 360 view of customers, or Data Warehouse modernization, and absorb ever growing volumes and variety of data with accelerating velocity, the principles and practices of Information Governance become ever more critical to ensure trust in data and help organizations overcome the inherent risks and achieve the wanted value. The introduction of big data changes the information landscape. Data arrives faster than humans can react to it, and issues can quickly escalate into significant events. The variety of data now poses new privacy and security risks. The high volume of information in all places makes it harder to find where these issues, risks, and even useful information to drive new value and revenue are. Information Governance provides an organization with a framework that can align their wanted outcomes with their strategic management principles, the people who can implement those principles, and the architecture and platform that are needed to support the big data use cases. The IBM Big Data Platform, coupled with a framework for Information Governance, provides an approach to build, manage, and gain significant value from the big data landscape.

Abstract: IBM Campaign® and IBM Interact are critical components in an Enterprise Marketing Management (EMM) platform. They are the foundation for optimizing your marketing campaign effectiveness, marketing operations, and multi-channel marketing execution. However, the effectiveness of the marketing campaigns is highly dependent on the quality, accuracy, and completeness of the underlying customer information used by the EMM platform. IBM InfoSphere Master Data Management (MDM) is a trusted source of that complete, accurate, customer information. Using your master data as the basis for running marketing campaigns provides the best information available for the best possible return-on-investment for your marketing operations. This IBM Redbooks® publication describes how master data about customers is extracted from an MDM hub and delivered through an "information supply chain" to your marketing data repository. This information supply chain includes capabilities such as data integration, metadata management, industry data models, and workload-optimized analytics appliance. The intent of this book is to give marketing organizations (both the business and IT functions for marketing) a blueprint for how to architect your EMM solution in a way that best takes advantage of your trusted master data.

Abstract: The use of external storage and the benefits of virtualization became a topic of discussion in the IBM® i area during the last several years. The question tends to be, what are the advantages of the use of external storage that is attached to an IBM i environment as opposed to the use of internal storage. The use of IBM PowerVM® virtualization technology to virtualize Power server processors and memory also became common in IBM i environments. However, virtualized access to external storage and network resources by using a VIO server is still not widely used. This IBM Redbooks® publication gives a broad overview of the IBM Storwize® family products and their features and functions. It describes the setup that is required on the storage side and describes and positions the different options for attaching IBM Storwize family products to an IBM i environment. Basic setup and configuration of a VIO server specifically for the needs of an IBM i environment is also described. In addition, different configuration options for a combined setup of IBM PowerHA® SystemMirror® for i and the Storwize family products are described and positioned against each other. Detailed examples are provided for the setup process that is required for these environments. The information that is provided in this book is useful for clients, IBM Business Partners, and IBM service professionals who need to understand how to install and configure their IBM i environment with attachment to the Storwize family products.

Abstract: Over the last few years, IBM® IMS™ and IMS tools have been modernizing the interfaces to IMS and the IMS tools to bring them more in line with the current interface designs. As the mainframe software products are becoming more integrated with the Windows and mobile environments, a common approach to interfaces is becoming more relevant. The traditional 3270 interface with ISPF as the main interface is no longer the only way to do some of these processes. There is also a need to provide more of a common looking interface so the tools do not have a product-specific interface. This allows more cross product integration. Eclipse and web-based interfaces being used in a development environment, tooling using those environments provides productivity improvements in that the interfaces are common and familiar. IMS and IMS tools developers are making use of those environments to provide tooling that will perform some of the standard DBA functions. This book will take some selected processes and show how this new tooling can be used. This will provide some productivity improvements and also provide a more familiar environment for new generations DBAs. Some of the functions normally done by DBA or console operators can now be done in this eclipse-based environment by the application developers. This means that the need to request these services from others can be eliminated. This IBM Redbooks® publication examines specific IMS DBA processes and highlights the new IMS and IMS tools features, which show an alternative way to accomplish those processes. Each chapter highlights a different area of the DBA processes like: PSB creation Starting/stopping a database in an IMS system Recovering a database Cloning a set of databases

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication helps you with planning, installation, and configuration of the new IBM Linear Tape File System™ (LTFS) Enterprise Edition (EE) V1.1.1.1 for the IBM System Storage® TS3500 and TS4500 Tape Libraries. LTFS EE is designed to enable the use of LTFS for the policy management of tape as a storage tier in an IBM General Parallel File System (IBM GPFS™)-based environment and helps encourage the use of tape as a critical tier in the storage environment. LTFS EE can run any application that is designed for disk files on tape. LTFS EE supports IBM Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Ultrium 6 and 5 tape drives, and IBM System Storage TS1140 Tape Drives that are installed in TS3500 tape libraries. LTFS EE can play a major role in reducing the cost of storage for data that does not need the access performance of primary disk. The use of LTFS EE to replace disks with tape in Tier 2 and Tier 3 storage can improve data access over other storage solutions because it improves efficiency and streamlines management for files on tape. LTFS EE simplifies the use of tape by making it transparent to the user and manageable by the administrator under a single infrastructure. This publication is intended for anyone who wants to understand more about LTFS EE planning and implementation. This book is suitable for IBM clients, IBM Business Partners, IBM specialist sales representatives, and technical specialists.

Abstract: Business Intelligence (BI) is a broad term relating to applications designed to analyze data for purposes of understanding and acting on the key metrics that drive profitability in an enterprise. Key to analyzing that data is providing fast, easy access to it while delivering it in formats or tools that best fit the needs of the end user. At the core of any business intelligence solution are end user query and reporting tools that provide intuitive access to data supporting a spectrum of end users from executives to "power users," from spreadsheet aficionados to the external Internet consumer. IBM® DB2 Web Query for i offers a set of modernized tools for a more robust, extensible, and productive reporting solution than the popular Query for System i tool (also known as Query/400). IBM DB2 Web Query for i preserves investments in the reports developed with Query/400 by offering a choice of importing definitions into the new technology or continuing to run existing Query/400 reports as-is. But it also offers significant productivity and performance enhancements by leveraging the latest in DB2 for i query optimization technology. This IBM Redbooks® publication provides a broad understanding of the new DB2 Web Query product. It entails a group of self-explanatory tutorials to help you get up to speed quickly. Overall, this book is designed for IT users. You can use Part 2, "Tutorials for DB2 Web Query" on page 161, as stand-alone tutorials for anyone who is developing their own queries.

Abstract: Almost all technological components in the data center are getting faster; central processing units, network, storage area networks (SAN), and memory. All of them have improved their speed by a minimum of 10X; some of them by 100X, for example, data networks. However, spinning disk performance has only increased by 1.2 times. Fortunately, flash storage has come along and closed the gap between the other improvements in server technology and storage. Using the IBM® FlashSystem™ 840 provides value that goes beyond those benefits that are seen on disk-based arrays. These benefits include better user experience, server and application consolidation, development cycle reduction, application scalability, data center footprint savings, and improved price performance economics. This IBM Redbooks® publication introduces clients to the newest member of the IBM FlashSystem™ products: the IBM FlashSystem 840. It will provide in-depth knowledge of the product architecture, software and hardware, its implementation, and hints and tips. Also illustrated are use cases that show real-world solutions for tiering, flash-only, and preferred read, as well as examples of the benefits gained by integrating the FlashSystem storage into business environments. Also described are product integration scenarios running the FlashSystem 840 with the IBM SAN Volume Controller, and the IBM PureFlex® System and the IBM Storwize® V7000 considerations when integrating with the FlashSystem 840. The preferred practice guidance is provided for your FlashSystem environment with IBM 16 Gbps b-type products and features, focusing on Fibre Channel design. This book is intended for pre-sales and post-sales technical support professionals and storage administrators, and for anyone who wants to understand and learn how to implement this new and exciting technology.

Abstract: IBM® System Storage® N series storage systems offer an excellent solution for a broad range of deployment scenarios. IBM System Storage N series storage systems function as a multiprotocol storage device that is designed to allow you to simultaneously serve both file and block-level data across a single network. These activities are demanding procedures that, for some solutions, require multiple, separately managed systems. The flexibility of IBM System Storage N series storage systems, however, allows them to address the storage needs of a wide range of organizations, including distributed enterprises and data centers for midrange enterprises. IBM System Storage N series storage systems also support sites with computer and data-intensive enterprise applications, such as database, data warehousing, workgroup collaboration, and messaging. This IBM Redbooks® publication explains the software features of the IBM System Storage N series storage systems with Clustered Data ONTAP (cDOT) Version 8.2, which is the first version available on the IBM System Storage N series, and as of October 2013, is also the most current version available. cDOT is different from previous ONTAP versions by the fact that it offers a storage solution that operates as a cluster with flexible scaling capabilities. cDOT configurations allow clients to build a scale-out architecture, protecting their investment and allowing horizontal scaling of their environment. This book also covers topics such as installation, setup, and administration of those software features from the IBM System Storage N series storage systems and clients, and provides example scenarios.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbook®s publication explains the capabilities of IBM WebSphere® Application Server Liberty profile, which is extremely lightweight, easy to install, and fast to use. Liberty profile provides a convenient and capable platform for developing and testing your web and OSGi applications. The Liberty profile server is built using OSGi technology and concepts. The fit-for-purpose nature of the run time relies on the dynamic behavior inherent in the OSGi framework and service registry. As bundles are installed or uninstalled from the framework, their services are automatically added or removed from the service registry. The result is a dynamic, composable run time that can be provisioned with only what your application requires and responds dynamically to configuration changes as your application evolves. This book can help you install, customize, and configure several popular open source technologies that can be deployed effectively with the WebSphere Application Server Liberty profile. Popular open source toolkits for the Liberty profile server were selected for this book based on significant enhancements they provide to the web application development process. In this book, a "Todo" sample demonstrates the use of multiple open source frameworks or toolkits with the Liberty profile server. The Todo sample is a simple application that can be used to create, update, and delete to-do items and to-do lists, and put the to-do items into a related to-do list.
