    Abstract: Das sub-saharische Afrika beginnt sich immer stärker zu differenzieren. Die Spanne zwischen Ländern mit guten wirtschaftlichen Potentialen und besseren Perspektiven und jenen mit allzu langem Reformstau vergrößert sich. Gerade die Gruppe der aufstrebenden Ökonomien zeigt große Reformbereitschaft, hier ist die Inflationsrate gering, hier haben die Investitions- und die Sparquote leicht angezogen. Die Wachstumsraten des Bruttoinlandsprodukts sind über einen längeren Zeitraum stabil. Diese Gruppe von Ländern hat durchaus die Möglichkeit, zu den Ländern mit mittleren Einkommen aufzuschließen. Südafrika, Botswana, Mauritius, Namibia, Cote d'Ivoire und evtl. auch noch einige weitere Länder verdeutlichen, daß Afrika nicht als der hoffnungslose Kontinent angesehen werden sollte. Die meisten Länder Afrikas gehören jedoch weiterhin zu den am wenigsten entwickelten Ländern, die über eine geringe Kaufkraftparität verfügen. Sie sind meist von hohen Entwicklungshilfeleistungen abhängig. Selbst wenn in manchen dieser Länder in den letzten Jahren ein Wirtschaftswachstum von 3-4% zu verzeichnen war, sind die Pro-Kopf-Einkommen kaum gestiegen. Die Bevölkerungen leben häufig in großer Armut. Im vorliegenden Sammelband werden Beiträge zu den ökonomischen Perspektiven des Kontinents zusammengeführt. Sie zeigen Strukturen auf, analysieren Wirtschaftsreformen und weisen auf neue Tendenzen der Entwicklung hin. Wissenschaftler und Praktiker geben einen Überblick über einige der zentralen Probleme und erörtern die Wirtschaftsperspektiven des afrikanischen Kontinents aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln. Die Autoren sind Henning Andresen, Andreas Bittner, Walter Englert, Johannes Jütting, Robert Kappel, Laurence Marfaing, Mariam Sow und Karl Wohlmuth.
