In "Wie das Kamel seinen Buckel bekam" ist es die grosse Faulheit des Tiers, das nach der Erschaffung der Welt nicht wie alle anderen Tiere Arbeiten verrichten möchte und dafür von einem Dschinn mit dem Höcker bestraft wird und fortan im Dienst des Menschen tätig sein muss. Auch in den beiden Geschichten, in denen es so aussieht, als würde es um rein menschliche Dinge wie Briefe und Alphabet gehen, spielen Tiere eine wichtige Rolle. Die schön gestaltete Taschenbuchausgabe von Kiplings Geschichten kann auch heute noch gerne empfohlen werden, nicht nur als Vorlesebuch zum Einschlafen. Breit einsetzbar
