Abstract: When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their Children's and Household Tales in 1812, followed by a second volume in 1815, they had no idea that such stories as "Rapunzel," "Hansel and Gretel," and "Cinderella" would become the most celebrated in the world. Yet few people today are familiar with the majority of tales from the two early volumes, since in the next four decades the Grimms would publish six other editions, each extensively revised in content and style. For the very first time, The Original Folk and Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm makes available in English all 156 stories from t

Abstract: The popularity of the Internet and the affordability of information technology (IT) hardware and software have resulted in an explosion dramatic increase in the number of applications, architectures, and platforms. Workloads have changed. Many applications, including mission-critical ones, are deployed on a variety of platforms, and the IBM® System z® design has adapted to this change. It takes into account a wide range of factors, including compatibility and investment protection, to match the IT requirements of an enterprise. This IBM Redbooks® publication provides information about the IBM zEnterprise® BC12 (zBC12), an IBM scalable mainframe server. IBM is taking a revolutionary approach by integrating separate platforms under the well-proven System z hardware management capabilities, while extending System z qualities of service to those platforms. The zEnterprise System consists of the zBC12 central processor complex, the IBM zEnterprise Unified Resource Manager, and the IBM zEnterprise BladeCenter® Extension (zBX). The zBC12 is designed with improved scalability, performance, security, resiliency, availability, and virtualization. The zBC12 provides the following improvements over its predecessor, the IBM zEnterprise 114 (z114): Up to a 36% performance boost per core running at 4.2 GHz Up to 58% more capacity for traditional workloads Up to 62% more capacity for Linux workloads The zBX infrastructure works with the zBC12 to enhance System z virtualization and management through an integrated hardware platform that spans mainframe, IBM POWER7®, and IBM System x® technologies. The federated capacity from multiple architectures of the zEnterprise System is managed as a single pool of resources, integrating system and workload management across the environment through the Unified Resource Manager. This book provides an overview of the zBC12 and its functions, features, and associated software support. Greater detail is offered in areas relevant to technical planning. This book is intended for systems engineers, consultants, planners, and anyone who wants to understand zEnterprise System functions and plan for their usage. It is not intended as an introduction to mainframes. Readers are expected to be generally familiar with existing IBM System z technology and terminology.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication provides insight into what application programming interfaces (APIs) are and why they are important. It also provides insight into how to use IBM API Management to create, subscribe, and connect to APIs, how to secure and test APIs, and how to gain business value from APIs. With an API, developers can exploit the functions of existing computer programs in other applications. Today, companies are exposing APIs to allow others to consume business functions of APIs. This helps companies to extend the reach of its brand, increase customer loyalty, and innovate, and integrate more quickly with customers, business partners, and suppliers. IBM API Management Version 2.0 is a complete on-premises solution, enabling companies to rapidly create, socialize, and manage their APIs. It is designed to help create a scalable, secure, enterprise API management solution. It provides functions and capabilities through configuration, not coding, key areas of API management including security, capabilities, caching, analytics, and community. This book shows you how to expose and manage APIs using IBM API Management. We develop a use case example, and step through the actual implementation of the solution and usage of the APIs. We cover several known best practices and areas to consider when working with IBM API Management. This book is written for anyone who will be working with IBM API Management for design, development, testing, deployment, administration, and maintenance of API management solutions. Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication is a detailed technical guide to the IBM System Storage® SAN Volume Controller Version 7.2. SAN Volume Controller is a virtualization appliance solution, which maps virtualized volumes that are visible to hosts and applications to physical volumes on storage devices. Each server within the storage area network (SAN) has its own set of virtual storage addresses that are mapped to physical addresses. If the physical addresses change, the server continues running by using the same virtual addresses that it had before. Therefore, volumes or storage can be added or moved while the server is still running. The IBM virtualization technology improves the management of information at the "block" level in a network, which enables applications and servers to share storage devices on a network. This book is intended for readers who must implement the SAN Volume Controller at a 7.2 release level with minimal effort.

The age of the empowered customer is here and are changing the way financial products are delivered, sold, and serviced, which are making relationships more complex than ever. The explosion of data and intense competition, which is combined with slow or inconsistent economic conditions, makes it imperative for financial institutions to find new and cost effective ways to increase market share, renew customer trust, and drive profitable growth. In this new business environment, the transaction processing arm of the industry is facing increased pressure to reduce float, better manage liquidity, and provide regulators and clients with increased transparency. At the same time, the industry must effectively manage the risks that are associated with introducing customer-focused and regionalized products and services. Financial Transaction Manager enables the management, orchestration, and monitoring of financial transactions during their processing lifecycle. Financial Transaction Manager provides the capability to integrate and unify financial transactions in various industry formats (including ISO 20022, SWIFT, NACHA, EDIFACT, ANSI X12 and others). By using Financial Transaction Manager, financial institutions gain visibility into message processing, balance financial risk, and facilitate effective performance management. This IBM® Redbooks® publication outlines how Financial Transaction Manager is deployed to realize the benefits of transaction transparency, increase business agility, and allow for innovation that is built on a robust and high-performance environment.

Abstract: With ever-increasing workloads on production systems from transaction, batch, online query and reporting applications, the challenges of high availability and workload balancing are more important than ever. This IBM® Redbooks® publication provides descriptions and scenarios for high availability solutions using the Q Replication technology of the IBM InfoSphere® Data Replication product on the IBM z/OS® platform. Also included are key considerations for designing, implementing, and managing solutions for the typical business scenarios that rely on Q Replication for their high availability solution. This publication also includes sections on latency analysis, managing Q Replication in the IBM DB2® for z/OS environment, and recovery procedures. These are topics of particular interest to clients who implement the Q Replication solution on the z/OS platform. Q Replication is a high-volume, low-latency replication solution that uses IBM WebSphere® MQ message queues to replicate transactions between source and target databases or subsystems. A major business benefit of the low latency and high throughput solution is timely availability of the data where the data is needed. High availability solutions are implemented to minimize the impact of planned and unplanned disruptions of service to the applications. Disruption of service can be caused by software maintenance and upgrades or by software and hardware outages. As applications' high availability requirements evolve towards continuous availability, that is availability of the data 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so does the Q Replication solution, to meet these challenges. If you are interested in the Q Replication solution and how it can be used to implement some of the high availability requirements of your business scenarios, this book is for you.

Abstract: IBM® MessageSight is an appliance-based messaging server that is optimized to address the massive scale requirements of machine-to-machine (m2m) and mobile user scenarios. IBM MessageSight makes it easy to connect mobile customers to your existing messaging enterprise system, enabling a substantial number of remote clients to be concurrently connected. The MQTT protocol is a lightweight messaging protocol that uses publish/subscribe architecture to deliver messages over low bandwidth or unreliable networks. A publish/subscribe architecture works well for HTML5, native, and hybrid mobile applications by removing the wait time of a request/response model. This creates a better, richer user experience. The MQTT protocol is simple, which results in a client library with a low footprint. MQTT was proposed as an Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) standard. Abstract: Along with servers and networking infrastructure, networked storage is one of the fundamental components of a modern data center. Because storage networking has evolved over the past two decades, the industry has settled on the basic storage networking technologies. These technologies are Fibre Channel (FC) storage area networks (SANs), Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI)-based Ethernet attachment, and Ethernet-based network-attached storage (NAS). Today, lossless, low-latency, high-speed FC SANs are viewed as the high-performance option for networked storage. iSCSI and NAS are viewed as lower cost, lower performance technologies. The advent of the 100 Gbps Ethernet and Data Center Bridging (DCB) standards for lossless Ethernet give Ethernet technology many of the desirable characteristics that make FC the preferred storage networking technology. These characteristics include comparable speed, low latency, and lossless behavior. Coupled with an ongoing industry drive toward better asset utilization and lower total cost of ownership, these advances open the door for organizations to consider consolidating and converging their networked storage infrastructures with their Ethernet data networks. Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) is one approach to this convergence, but 10-Gbps-enabled iSCSI also offers compelling options for many organizations with the hope that their performance can now rival that of FC. This IBM® Redbooks® publication is written for experienced systems, storage, and network administrators who want to integrate the IBM System Networking and Storage technology successfully into new and existing networks. This book provides an overview of today's options for storage networking convergence. It reviews the technology background for each of these options and then examines detailed scenarios for them by using IBM and IBM Business Partner convergence products.

Abstract: Business Intelligence (BI) is a broad term relating to applications designed to analyze data for purposes of understanding and acting on the key metrics that drive profitability in an enterprise. Key to analyzing that data is providing fast, easy access to it while delivering it in formats or tools that best fit the needs of the end user. At the core of any business intelligence solution are end user query and reporting tools that provide intuitive access to data supporting a spectrum of end users from executives to "power users," from spreadsheet aficionados to the external Internet consumer. IBM® DB2 Web Query for i offers a set of modernized tools for a more robust, extensible, and productive reporting solution than the popular Query for System i tool (also known as Query/400). IBM DB2 Web Query for i preserves investments in the reports developed with Query/400 by offering a choice of importing definitions into the new technology or continuing to run existing Query/400 reports as-is. But it also offers significant productivity and performance enhancements by leveraging the latest in DB2 for i query optimization technology. This IBM Redbooks® publication provides a broad understanding of the new DB2 Web Query product. It entails a group of self-explanatory tutorials to help you get up to speed quickly. Overall, this book is designed for IT users. You can use Part 2, "Tutorials for DB2 Web Query" on page 161, as stand-alone tutorials for anyone who is developing their own queries.

Abstract: Over the last few years, IBM® IMS™ and IMS tools have been modernizing the interfaces to IMS and the IMS tools to bring them more in line with the current interface designs. As the mainframe software products are becoming more integrated with the Windows and mobile environments, a common approach to interfaces is becoming more relevant. The traditional 3270 interface with ISPF as the main interface is no longer the only way to do some of these processes. There is also a need to provide more of a common looking interface so the tools do not have a product-specific interface. This allows more cross product integration. Eclipse and web-based interfaces being used in a development environment, tooling using those environments provides productivity improvements in that the interfaces are common and familiar. IMS and IMS tools developers are making use of those environments to provide tooling that will perform some of the standard DBA functions. This book will take some selected processes and show how this new tooling can be used. This will provide some productivity improvements and also provide a more familiar environment for new generations DBAs. Some of the functions normally done by DBA or console operators can now be done in this eclipse-based environment by the application developers. This means that the need to request these services from others can be eliminated. This IBM Redbooks® publication examines specific IMS DBA processes and highlights the new IMS and IMS tools features, which show an alternative way to accomplish those processes. Each chapter highlights a different area of the DBA processes like: PSB creation Starting/stopping a database in an IMS system Recovering a database Cloning a set of databases

Abstract: IBM® System Storage® N series storage systems offer an excellent solution for a broad range of deployment scenarios. IBM System Storage N series storage systems function as a multiprotocol storage device that is designed to allow you to simultaneously serve both file and block-level data across a single network. These activities are demanding procedures that, for some solutions, require multiple, separately managed systems. The flexibility of IBM System Storage N series storage systems, however, allows them to address the storage needs of a wide range of organizations, including distributed enterprises and data centers for midrange enterprises. IBM System Storage N series storage systems also support sites with computer and data-intensive enterprise applications, such as database, data warehousing, workgroup collaboration, and messaging. This IBM Redbooks® publication explains the software features of the IBM System Storage N series storage systems with Clustered Data ONTAP (cDOT) Version 8.2, which is the first version available on the IBM System Storage N series, and as of October 2013, is also the most current version available. cDOT is different from previous ONTAP versions by the fact that it offers a storage solution that operates as a cluster with flexible scaling capabilities. cDOT configurations allow clients to build a scale-out architecture, protecting their investment and allowing horizontal scaling of their environment. This book also covers topics such as installation, setup, and administration of those software features from the IBM System Storage N series storage systems and clients, and provides example scenarios.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbook®s publication explains the capabilities of IBM WebSphere® Application Server Liberty profile, which is extremely lightweight, easy to install, and fast to use. Liberty profile provides a convenient and capable platform for developing and testing your web and OSGi applications. The Liberty profile server is built using OSGi technology and concepts. The fit-for-purpose nature of the run time relies on the dynamic behavior inherent in the OSGi framework and service registry. As bundles are installed or uninstalled from the framework, their services are automatically added or removed from the service registry. The result is a dynamic, composable run time that can be provisioned with only what your application requires and responds dynamically to configuration changes as your application evolves. This book can help you install, customize, and configure several popular open source technologies that can be deployed effectively with the WebSphere Application Server Liberty profile. Popular open source toolkits for the Liberty profile server were selected for this book based on significant enhancements they provide to the web application development process. In this book, a "Todo" sample demonstrates the use of multiple open source frameworks or toolkits with the Liberty profile server. The Todo sample is a simple application that can be used to create, update, and delete to-do items and to-do lists, and put the to-do items into a related to-do list.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes how the IBM Big Data Platform provides the integrated capabilities that are required for the adoption of Information Governance in the big data landscape. As organizations embark on new use cases, such as Big Data Exploration, an enhanced 360 view of customers, or Data Warehouse modernization, and absorb ever growing volumes and variety of data with accelerating velocity, the principles and practices of Information Governance become ever more critical to ensure trust in data and help organizations overcome the inherent risks and achieve the wanted value. The introduction of big data changes the information landscape. Data arrives faster than humans can react to it, and issues can quickly escalate into significant events. The variety of data now poses new privacy and security risks. The high volume of information in all places makes it harder to find where these issues, risks, and even useful information to drive new value and revenue are. Information Governance provides an organization with a framework that can align their wanted outcomes with their strategic management principles, the people who can implement those principles, and the architecture and platform that are needed to support the big data use cases. The IBM Big Data Platform, coupled with a framework for Information Governance, provides an approach to build, manage, and gain significant value from the big data landscape.

Abstract: Managing information within the enterprise has always been a vital and important task to support the day-to-day business operations and to enable analysis of that data for decision making to better manage and grow the business for improved profitability. To do all that, clearly the data must be accurate and organized so it is accessible and understandable to all who need it. That task has grown in importance as the volume of enterprise data has been growing significantly (analyst estimates of 40 - 50% growth per year are not uncommon) over the years. However, most of that data has been what we call "structured" data, which is the type that can fit neatly into rows and columns and be more easily analyzed. Now we are in the era of "big data." This significantly increases the volume of data available, but it is in a form called "unstructured" data. That is, data from sources that are not as easily organized, such as data from emails, spreadsheets, sensors, video, audio, and social media sites. There is valuable information in all that data but it calls for new processes to enable it to be analyzed. All this has brought with it a renewed and critical need to manage and organize that data with clarity of meaning, understandability, and interoperability. That is, you must be able to integrate this data when it is from within an enterprise but also importantly when it is from many different external sources. What is described here has been and is being done to varying extents. It is called "information governance." Governing this information however has proven to be challenging. But without governance, much of the data can be less useful and perhaps even used incorrectly, significantly impacting enterprise decision making. So we must also respect the needs for information security, consistency, and validity or else suffer the potential economic and legal consequences. Implementing sound governance practices needs to be an integral part of the information control in our organizations. This IBM® Redbooks® publication focuses on the building blocks of a solid governance program. It examines some familiar governance initiative scenarios, identifying how they underpin key governance initiatives, such as Master Data Management, Quality Management, Security and Privacy, and Information Lifecycle Management. IBM Information Management and Governance solutions provide a comprehensive suite to help organizations better understand and build their governance sol...
