Abstract: "Peace, sustainability, and climate security are entangled and cannot be dealt with independently from the systems with which they interact. Yet, their intersection is rarely articulated with a systemic mindset. A multi-solving nexus approach captures the complexity and uncertainty of how peace, sustainability, and climate security play a role in community development, the nature of their causal chains, and the feedback on how community development affects the three sectors. Navigating the Complexity Across the Peace-Sustainability-Climate Security Nexus explores the value proposition of using a systems approach, methodology, and tools to comprehend and model that dynamic"--...

Abstract: "Considering sustainability as a flawed and restrictive term in practice, Sustainable Futures for Climate Adaptation argues that we must radically adapt humanity and reform society, cities, buildings, and our approach to migration in order to coexist in harmony with our natural environments. The book conceives an earth-human coexistence where the world's regions are shared globally between all people, in contrast to a reality where we have lost touch with the natural world. It is this decoupling of humanity and nature that has brought us to the brink of climate disaster. In response, Benedict Anderson explores the concept of 'wearing our ecology', where human mobility is synchronised with the environment, merging people with landscapes, topographies, and geographies. Anderson argues that we need to create new migration routes for people moving between the Global South and North and establish flexible and adaptive living environments. Only by rethinking separations between urban and rural, resource extraction and consumption, racial prejudice and accessibility are we able to forge a closer partnership with nature to adapt to climate change and mitigate the worst of its effects. Touching on themes of adaptive urban design, racial and gender segregation and inequality, and climate apocalypticism, this book will be valuable reading for researchers, scholars, and upper-level students in the fields of urban studies, migration studies, human geography, ecology, politics, and design"--...

Abstract: This volume examines the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labor market and the business environment in the European Union (EU), with a specific focus on Romania, the least developed country in the EU. The book emphasizes the need to rethink recovery models and suggests a new normal based on the pillars of economic, climatic, and social resilience. Is proposed the redefinition the policies’ mix that will allow fundamental changes in development, focused also on social and societal profit, the redefinition of productivity and environmental performance of businesses, and the rebalancing of work and leisure life. The COVID-19 crisis not only accelerated the digital transformation of society but also reconfigured the coordinates of economic development by prioritizing sustainable development for all, based on green jobs as a starting point for business innovation and decent jobs for active social protection. Following this approach, the contributions discuss selected issues with importance to the development of society in the post-pandemic world. The book is of interest to students, scholars and researchers in economics, business, management and political science, as well as to policy makers and practitioners, for a better understanding of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labor market and the business environment in European Union.

Abstract: "This book turns critical feminist scrutiny on national climate policies in India and examines what transition might really mean for marginalized groups in the country. A vision of 'just transitions' is increasingly being used by activists and groups to ensure that pathways towards sustainable futures are equitable and inclusive. Exploring this concept, this volume provides a feminist study of what it would take to ensure just transitions in India where gender, in relation to its interesting dimensions of power, is at the center of analysis. With case studies on climate mitigation and adaptation from different parts of India, the book brings together academics, practitioners and policy-makers who provide commentary on sectors including agriculture, forestry and renewables. Overall, the book has relevance far beyond India's borders, as India's attempt to deal with its diverse population makes it a key litmus test for countries seeking to transition against a backdrop of inequality both in the global North and South. This volume will be of great interest to students and scholars of climate policy, gender studies, sustainable development and development studies more broadly"--...

Abstract: "Population Geography: Social Justice for a Sustainable World surveys the ways in which geographic approaches may be applied to population issues, exploring how human populations are embedded in natural and social environments. It encourages students to evaluate population issues critically, given that population topics are at the heart of many of today's most contentious subjects. Through introducing students to different lenses of analysis (ecological, economic and social equity), the authors ask students to consider how different perspectives can lead to different conclusions on the same issue. Identifying and tackling today's population problems therefore requires an understanding of these diverging, and sometimes conflicting, perspectives. The text will cover all the key background information critical to any book on population geography (population size, distribution, and composition; fertility, mortality, and migration; population and resources), but will also push students to think critically about the materials they have covered using these twin lenses of sustainability and social justice. In this way, students move beyond simple fact learning towards higher-level skills such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of materials. This textbook will be a valuable resource for students of human geography, population geography, demography and diaspora studies"--

Abstract: "This ground-breaking handbook leads the way in accelerating the transition to a sustainable circular economy by introducing the concept of a catalyst as a positive and enhancing driving force for sustainability. Catalysts create and maintain favourable conditions for complex systemic sustainability transition changes, and a discussion and understanding of catalysts is required to move from a linear economy to a sustainable and circular economy. With contributions from leading experts from around the globe, this volume presents theoretical insights, contextualized case studies, and participatory methodologies, which identify different catalysts, including technology, innovation, business models, management and organisation, regulation, sustainability policy, product design, and culture. The authors then show how these catalysts accelerate sustainability transitions. As a unique value to the reader, the book brings together public policy and private business perspectives to address the circular economy as a systemic change. Its theoretical and practical perspectives are coupled with real-world case studies from Finland, Italy, China, India, Nigeria, and others, to provide tangible insights on catalysing the circular economy across organizational, hierarchical, and disciplinary boundaries. With its broad interdisciplinary and geographically diverse scope, this handbook will be a valuable tool for researchers, academics, and policymakers in the fields of circular economy, sustainability transitions, environmental studies, business, and the social sciences more broadly"--

Abstract: "This volume offers a snapshot of anthropological perspectives on global challenges. Revealing that there is nothing 'global' about such challenges at all, these perspectives highlight the implications of reimagining the ways in which 'challenges' and 'crises' are understood and addressed. The collection shows that a combination of deep understanding of the past along with collaboration, cooperation and inclusive dialogue about the future improves the chances of positive action. It not only stresses that perspectives must change, but also shows us exactly how that change might be realised. Whilst the contributions are authored solely by anthropologists, they are not solely for anthropologists. The book is illustrative of the practical and theoretical insights that anthropology can offer those individuals, teams, and policy- and decision-makers engaged in research, mitigation or intervention practices in relation to global challenges. It contributes to broader understandings of the challenges we collectively face at this point in time and how we might collectively and effectively address them"--

Abstract: "This fully revised 2nd edition reflects the great expansion in urban ecology research, action and teaching since 2015. Urban ecology provides understanding of urban ecosystems and uses nature-based techniques to enhance habitats and alleviate poor environmental conditions. Already the home to the majority of the world's people, urban areas continue to grow, causing ecological changes throughout the world. To help students of all professions caring for urban areas and the people, animals and plants that live in them, the authors set out the environmental and ecological science of cities; linkages between urban nature and human health and urban food production in cities and how we can value urban nature. . They explore our responsibilities for urban nature and greening, ecological management techniques and the use of nature-based solutions to achieve a better, more sustainable urban future and ensure that cities can climate change and become more beautiful and more sustainable places in which to live. This text provides the student and the practitioner with a critical scientific overview of urban ecology that will be a key source of data and ideas for studies and for sound urban management"--

Abstract: "The extant corpus of research on supply chain sustainability in the Arctic exhibits a conspicuous neglect of the social dimension, rendering it the most underprivileged among the three pillars of sustainability. A deep dive into the Arctic, this edited volume endeavors to fill this opulent lacuna by placing the unjustly forsaken concept of social sustainability at the forefront of supply chain management (SCM) research. By showcasing real-life case studies of supply chain operations, all in different industries and located in various Arctic regions, this book delves into the intricate interplay between business interests, political ambitions, and social issues. In response to the burgeoning demand for more in-depth empirical studies within the SCM landscape, it offers a compelling tapestry of experiences and candid views on the complexities of implementing socially sustainable and responsible policies in Arctic supply chains. Featuring contributions by 26 esteemed scholars worldwide, this collection proffers thirteen thought-provoking and insightful chapters, arranged in a logical and coherent sequence that enables readers to follow a clear thread of argumentation. With abundant theoretical insights and empirical data, Supply Chain Operations in the Arctic: A Multi-Perspective Approach Towards Sustainable Development will appeal to a wide range of readers keeping a close eye on Arctic operations and sustainable issues. It is a timely and essential resource for students and scholars of SCM and sustainability studies, as well as businesses, policymakers, Indigenous Peoples, and non-governmental organizations seeking to promote socially responsible supply chain practices in the Arctic"--

Abstract: Since the introduction of Industry 5.0, there has been a greater emphasis on the human-centric view in human-machine collaboration. As society has benefitted from technological advancements in all aspects of industrial sectors, there has been a rethinking of the role human beings should play in future evolutions. This includes the skills or knowledge the workforce should adopt in training, and how the positive outcomes of such advancements can be maximized in the economy whilst mitigating the negative ethical and social consequences. Transformation for Sustainable Business and Management Practices: Exploring the Spectrum of Industry 5.0 provides an understanding of the foundations of these predicted changes; how the transformation started, evolved, and accelerated over time.

Abstract: "This book investigates contemporary human security issues in East Africa, setting forth policy recommendations and a research agenda for future studies. Human security takes a people-centered rather than state-centered approach to security issues, focusing on whether people feel safe, free from fear, want and indignity. This book investigates human security in East Africa, encompassing issues as diverse as migration, housing, climate change, displacement, food security, aflatoxins, land rights, and peace and conflict resolution. In particular, the book showcases innovative original research from African scholars based on the continent and abroad, and together the contributors provide policy recommendations and set forth a human security research agenda for East Africa, which encompasses Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Djibouti. As well as being useful for policy makers and practitioners, this book will interest researchers across African Studies, Security Studies, Environmental Studies, Political Science, Global Governance, International Relations, and Human Geography"--

Abstract: "This book considers the nature, causes and consequences of extreme pro- and anti-sustainability rhetoric, exploring how and why the expressions of radical views on sustainability-related themes may prevent real sustainable development. Following a thorough introduction on sustainability rhetoric, on dialogue and on the role played by ideologies in the building of environmental beliefs, Fracarolli Nunes and Lee Park examine positions and statements expressed or made by individuals, companies, governments, and NGOs in the last decades. The outcomes of these considerations lead to the classification of expressions in different categories of sustainability rhetoric, laying the groundwork for the development of a 'sustainability spectrum': a metric for the level of radicalization of sustainability positions, which ranges from apocalyptic views to ultimate denial. Through the combination of historical perspectives, theoretical frameworks, and conceptual developments, this book provides a foundation for a more informed and productive dialogue between radically opposing views on sustainability issues. This volume will be of great interest to students, scholars and practitioners researching and working in the areas of environmental communication and media, environmental politics and sustainable development"--...

Abstract: Everyday life as we knew it is increasingly challenged in a world of climate, social, health and political crisis. Emerging technologies, data analytics and automation open up new possibilities which have implications for energy generation, storage and energy demand. To support these changes we urgently need to rethink how energy will be sourced, shared and used. Yet existing approaches to this problem, driven by engineering, data analytics and capital, are dangerously conservative and entrenched. Energy Futures critically evaluates this context, and the energy infrastructures, stakeholders, and politics that participate in it, to propose plausible, responsible and ethical modes of encountering possible energy futures. Imagining anthropocene challenges, emerging technologies and everyday life otherwise through empirically grounded studies, opens up possible energy futures. Energy Futures proposes and demonstrates a new critical and interventional futures-oriented energy anthropology. Combining the theories and methods of futures anthropology with the critical expertise and perspectives of energy anthropology creates a powerful mode of engagement, which this book argues is needed to disrupt the dominant narratives about our energy futures. Its contributors collectively reveal and evidence through innovative ethnographic practice how new knowledge about imagined and possible energy futures can be mobilised in engagements with emerging technologies, anthropocene challenges and everyday realities. In doing so it brings together authors, analytical expertise and ethnographic evidence from the global south, north and places in between, generated through innovative methodologies including remote video and comic strip methods and documentary video practice as well as long term fieldwork.

Abstract: "Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd in partnership with United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on SSE (UNTFSSE) The Encyclopedia of the Social and Solidarity Economy is a comprehensive reference text that explores how the social and solidarity economy (SSE) plays a significant role in creating and developing economic activities in alternative ways. In contrast to processes involving commodification, commercialisation, bureaucratisation and corporatisation, the SSE reasserts the place of ethics, social well-being and democratic decision-making in economic activities and governance. Identifying and analysing a myriad of issues and topics associated with the SSE, the Encyclopedia broadens the knowledge base of diverse actors of the SSE, including practitioners, activists and policymakers. Analysing the role of SSE organisations and enterprises in enhancing wellbeing, planetary health and democracy at various levels and their contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the Encyclopedia invaluably summarises knowledge about the key aspects of the SSE. Accomplished researchers depart from traditional nationalistic, Eurocentric and trans-Atlantic perspectives to explain the SSE from a global perspective with a focus on untold stories of its development in both developing and developed countries. A collective work of the UN Inter-Agency Task Force on SSE (UNTFSSE), this Encyclopedia will serve as an essential tool for scholars and students of comparative social policy, international economics, management studies and economic sociology. Key Features: - 57 entries - Clearly organised into thematic sections addressing histories, concepts and theories, actors and organisations, development, and environment and governance - Breaks down the complex relationship between economic, social and political dimensions in an accessible way"--

Abstract: "Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investments are set to hit $53 billion by 2025 and will likely account for one-third of all global assets under management by that time. Investors must move in this ESG direction-and ensure the companies they invest in do to- to support their portfolios' growth. In addition, leaders who are unaware of sustainability and environmental policies risk fines, reputational damage, and loss of customers and investors. This book explores how institutional investors and corporations are shifting their focus toward environmental, social, and governance issues"--

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. In this track, we will introduce the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. You may have heard about various sustainability targets, but these 17 objectives are significant because they are backed by 193 countries. After listening, you will have up-to-date knowledge of the 17 goals and an understanding of how they link together. You will also be aware of the history of the Sustainable Development Goals and the issues that nations face when trying to work towards the same aims. Let's start from the beginning. When and how were they established? Sustainability is one of the main building blocks towards a brighter future. The United Nations is one of the organisations that puts sustainability at the forefront. It was founded in 1945, and it acts as a collaborative organisation where world leaders and representatives can engage in discourse about global issues. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are part of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 17 goals form the core of the plan to create 'peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.' Learning Objectives Discover what the Sustainable Development Goals are Examine why we need sustainability goals Identify the key Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. Sustainability has a broad definition. In simple terms, it relates to the lifespan of the object. Take coal, for example. Coal is not a renewable material, so it is not sustainable in the long term. Of course, when we talk about sustainability we often think of the environment. Environmental sustainability is a concept that asks: can we maintain the environment around us? How long can the natural resources that we depend on last? Do they have an expiration date? The less sustainable a material is, the more it is likely to harm the environment. In an ideal world, all the materials and energy sources that we use to support our lifestyles would be sustainable. The United Nations Environment Management Group takes this concept one step further. By referring to this idea as Environmental and Social Sustainability (ESS), the United Nations highlights the connection between environmental sustainability and human actions. In this track, we'll cover what Environmental Sustainability is about. Learning Objectives Identify what environmental sustainability means Examine how businesses impact sustainability Discover a new way of thinking that could turn you into a conscientious consumer.

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. Globalisation is typically defined "as the increased flow of goods, services, capital, people, and ideas across international boundaries." This integration of economic, social, and cultural activities has resulted in the greater interconnectedness of people, cultures, and economies worldwide. Some significant benefits are associated with globalisation, such as increased trade, greater living standards and improved technology for some. But this is unfortunately not the full story, as it is also linked to adverse effects on the environment, society, and economic stability. In this track, we will explore the connection between globalisation and sustainability and the need for global cooperation to combine the two concepts successfully. We will also examine how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can guide us towards a brighter, prosperous, and far more sustainable future. Globalisation has enabled us to be more connected to one another than ever. The rapid increase in technological advancements and regional integration has led to the formation of advanced economies. Domestic businesses grow into international ones and further contribute to the spread of technologies. Core aspects of globalisation include increased international trade and cooperation. There is also the concept of 'social globalisation', meaning the transfer of ideas and information between countries. Learning Objectives Identify what globalisation is Examine the links between globalisation and sustainability Discover methods for collective action to combat climate change.

Abstract: Welcome to Audio Learning from Assemble You. Starting a conversation about sustainability can be difficult. It's a complicated topic that sometimes requires people to understand some very technical ideas. Given that it also involves people's lifestyles, choices and values, it can be quite sensitive too. It's possible to make people aware of the need for more sustainable choices without it turning into a science lesson, a criticism of what they're doing now, or a political debate. You don't want to alienate them or cause them to become defensive. This is particularly important in the workplace, where you need to protect your working relationships. In this track, let's take a look at some strategies for starting the sustainability conversation at work and how you can inspire your colleagues to take action without creating tension. Learning Objectives Recognise why talking about sustainability needs to be approached with care Discover practical strategies for talking to colleagues about sustainability that will help influence their behaviour without damaging working relationships Establish how to have a productive discussion about sustainability with a manager.

Abstract: "Societal grand challenges have taken a toll on humanity, which finds itself at a crossroads. The concentration of wealth and economic inequality, the dominance of Big Tech firms, the loss of privacy and free choice, and the overconsumption and abuse of natural resources have been reinforced by globalization. Regulation, legislation, international treaties, and government and corporate policies have fallen short of offering sufficient remedies. This book identifies the root cause of these problems and offers a bold solution: a new economic system, free from the design flaws that have contributed to these societal grand challenges. The proposed cooperative economy is an ethical community-driven exchange system that relies on collective action to promote societal values while accounting for resource constraints. Unlike the modern economic system that is predominantly driven by opportunistic behavior, the cooperative economy moves away from a materialistic orientation and follows a more balanced perspective that leverages prosocial behavior. The book explains how this new system adopts design principles that promote self-sufficiency of communities, sustainability and entrepreneurship while limiting overconsumption and excessive profit-making. It enhances economic equality by leveraging price subsidization and by restricting salary differences. The book describes how the system serves the interests of consumers, vendors, and employees while preventing the accumulation of power by the platform owner who operates this system. This book is invaluable reading for policymakers who have been searching for solutions to some of the grand challenges that our society faces, and to managers who have sought alternative ways to cope with platform ecosystems, resource shortages, and supply chain disruptions. It revisits long-held assumptions, offering a treatise and food for thought, as well as a plan for concrete action. The book is also highly relevant to scholars and students in the study of economics, strategy, innovation, and public policy and to all readers who are concerned about the future of our planet and society"--

Abstract: This book, the first of two volumes, explores India’s economic development from 5000BC through to the India’s independence period from 1947AD to 2022AD. The specific characteristics of economic development in India are examined to help determine development paths India can pursue to create sustainable development in the 21st century. The transition from the primary section to the secondary sector, through the process of industrialisation and in turn the move towards the services sector, is discussed in relation to climate change and the pressure on resources posed by population growth. This book aims to contextualise India’s economic development within the political economy of trade, sustainable development and culture with a particular focus on the institutions that have emerged in the Indian sub-continent since 5000BC. It will be relevant to students and researchers interested in economic history, development economics, and the political economy. Abstract: This book journeys through human history, beginning with the tribal age and ending with an option for what's to come after the knowledge age. It examines the profound influence that culture, civilization, and materialism have on the distribution of wealth, knowledge, and power. It critically examines the shortcomings of current education and healthcare systems, shedding light on the difficulties nations face in effectively addressing the needs of citizens and population including refugees. The author challenges the existing societal frameworks, advocating for the adoption of novel political and economic systems firmly grounded in the principles of justice, freedom, and equity. At the core of this is a folk-political system that values productivity and empowers workers and workforces to innovate. Written for a discerning audience of economists, policymakers, scholars, and students, the book shifts the paradigm of the knowledge age away from issues with power and toward a future that values justice, freedom, and sustainability. Readers will gain invaluable insights into reshaping our societies, fostering inclusive economic growth, and ensuring a better world for all. Abstract: This book introduces the Political Economy of Alternative Economic Futures for the Greek economy up to 2035. The analysis is not restricted to the presentation of a series of forecasts but aims to develop a comprehensive framework for Greece’s future. The analysis covers five realms regarding alternative economic futures, which outline the political economy of Greece: sustainable development; sustainable governance; inclusive growth; evolution of human behaviors; and dynamic growth. A growth, an unsustainable growth, a transformation, and a falldown scenario are generated based on the severity of key-uncertainty factors' effects. Panagiotis E. Abstract: This book presents selected papers of the Euro-Asian Symposium on Economic Theory, held by the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Ekaterinburg, Russia) on June 29-30, 2022. The conference aims to promote research and develop effective solutions to urgent challenges in economic theory in the context of stability and uncertainty. The main theme of the 2022 Conference is the "Viability of Economic Theories". The chaos of the modern world forces us to rethink many theoretical positions. Researchers are trying to overcome the contradictions between theory and empiricism through new models, mechanisms and approaches. The challenges of recent social change have led to an adjustment in the perception, interpretation, and use of many concepts, necessitating an updating of these terms. The problems and contradictions identified in the studies will help to reconcile theoretical approaches with practice. The volume covers topics such as sustainable development issues, economic shocks in the history of economic thought, modern economic concepts of identity, theory of organizations under uncertainty, review of economic theories with the "Corona crisis," models of consumer behavior, business cycles, theory of investment, issues of economic growth and market equilibrium, impact of social factors on the sustainability of the economy, etc. Moveover, the volume presents new solutions for the synthesis of mainstream and political economy ideas. These topics will be of great interest to academics, researchers and practitioners.

Abstract: Given the industrialized world’s historical dependence on fossil fuel-based energy resources and perils of moving beyond the earth’s carbon budget, this book explores the myriad challenges of climate change and in reaching a low-carbon economy. Reconciling the medium-term needs for transition policies, the book provides guidelines for complex climate policy tasks. The book presents empirical trends in the use of carbon-emitting resources and evaluates market-driven short-termism and its adverse impact on resource use and the environment; It attempts a paradigm shift towards a framework of sustainable macroeconomics providing empirical and numerical analyses of recent climate-economy models, empirical estimations, and diverse macro policy options and implementations New analytical issues are also considered, e.g., strategic behavior in the energy and resource sectors, energy competition and the dynamics of market shares in new energy technology The authors suggest a multitude of market-based strategies and public fiscal, monetary, and financial policies, and longer-run planning for resource extraction - all serving sustainable growth and a transformation of the energy sector and dealing with the tipping points encountered in climate change The book also examines the multiple delaying forces slowing the transition to a low-carbon economy; these typically arise from short-termism, lock-ins, irreversibility, leakages, non-cooperative games, and other political strategies, explaining the slow implementation of climate policies The book, complementary to macroeconomic textbooks, appeals to scholars and students of economics and environmental science. It is also relevant for policymakers and practitioners in multilateral institutions, research institutions as well as governments and ministries of countries interested in climate economics, alternative energy sources, and energy policies. The book fills an important gap on… dealing with the path to greenhouse gas neutrality from a macroeconomic point of view. —Ottmar Edenhofer, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Professor at the Technical University, Berlin, Germany.

Abstract: “This book addresses humanity’s fateful struggle with excessive success in a very deep and different manner. I have previously moved from being a cornucopian to a modified Malthusian but this book is now moving me towards the third possibility you discuss- collapse as a feature not a bug of complex society”. - Christopher L. It poses the provocative question whether a constructive collapse, rather than green growth or degrowth, could be the solution to the dangers caused by the increasing environmental footprint. It will be an inspirational source of thinking for all those interested in the future of mankind" - Nicola Dimitri, University of Siena It has been said that, in the light of ecological overshoot, that human civilization faces two future possibilities: a Great Decoupling or a Great Collapse. In this book, two distinct positions to achieve the Great Decoupling are critically evaluated: Green Growth and Degrowth. It is concluded that neither Green Growth nor Degrowth will be able to achieve the Great Decoupling. The possibility for society to collapse is then raised, with the potential for a civilizational rebound pondered. Whether collapse may be a feature, and not a bug, of the long-run evolution of complex civilization is discussed. This book offers a thought provoking and unique perspective on the economic and ecological challenges faced by modern societies. It will be relevant to students, researchers, and policymakers interested in environmental economics and economic policy. Abstract: In the COVID 19 post-pandemic era, sustainable financial systems are increasingly getting the attention they deserve, and policymakers are now moving toward investment and financing decisions based on sustainable development. Green finance plays an important role in mobilizing financial resources and hedging against environmental risk to achieve financially sustainable systems. Moreover, green financial instruments offer viable alternatives for investors and regulators with regard to portfolio management and risk minimization. Over the last few years, financial technology (FinTech) has grown to become one of the most topical areas in the global financial services industry. The development of distributed ledger technology, big data, smart contracts, peer-to-peer lending platforms, biometrics, and new digital has sparked innovation in the financial services industry and the development of new financing and investment strategies. The combination of sustainability and FinTech can help policymakers to achieve ESG targets when making investment and financing decisions. This book showcases a collection of recent advances in green finance and FinTech and explores their impact in achieving sustainable finance, investment strategy-making, and portfolio management. Presenting theoretical frameworks and the latest empirical studies in the field of green finance and FinTech, it offers a valuable asset for academics, professionals, policymakers, regulators, and investors who want to understand in-depth the impact of green finance and FinTech on future investment and financing strategies in the post-pandemic era.

Abstract: This book examines both the need for sustainable economics and the financial practices that will underpin it. The link between rising inequality and the threat to social sustainability is highlighted to create the Economic Scale of Global Boundaries model, which realigns GDP to include quantifiable environmental and social economic gains and losses. The model is applied at both the national and company level to show its practical application for policy and everyday business practice. The impacts of inequality, declining economic growth and the impending deadlines of the Sustainable Development Goals are also discussed in detail. This book aims to highlight how principles of the circular economy and ESG can be utilized to help meet net zero targets. It will be relevant to students, researchers, organizations, and policymakers interested in environmental economics and sustainability and is written to provoke predictive thinking on the global changes ahead. Abstract: "This work, an initiative of the University of French Polynesia, Tahiti, showcases research collaboration between small island universities in the Pacific. It addresses a number of 'big issues' for Oceania which are also big issues for the world, concerning the biosphere and human society, sustainable development and well-being. The authors seek to create an ecosystem of knowledge through a dialogue, in English and French, between the natural sciences, the social sciences and the humanities. The work also brings into perspective academic and traditional knowledge, with a view to enhancing cultural and agricultural practices and the development of public policy. Climate change, environmental degradation and food security are key questions for survival. How can the preservation of cultural heritage, the transmission of native languages and the integration of traditional knowledge into formal education contribute to a harmonious future? How is the phenomenon of violence relevant to an understanding of history, interpersonal relations and social inclusiveness, including for women in the political sphere? The Tongan-Fijian writer Epeli Hau'ofa described Oceania imaginatively as a 'Sea of Islands'. This volume sees Pacific islands as being interconnected in ways beyond imagining, in which nowhere is remote, where the peripheral has become a decentred centre"--

Abstract: "Knowledge management and advanced information technologies such as AI, IoT, machine learning, and more can create digital tools and solutions to build more resilient, climate neutral, and green economies and societies. These digital tools and solutions and knowledge management can have a heavy impact on the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Asia. Perspectives on the Transition Toward Green and Climate Neutral Economies in Asia offers innovative conceptual frameworks and theories, case studies, and empirical studies to understand how knowledge management and digital innovation can foster the transition towards more circular and climate neutral economies as well as greener economies in Asia. This book discusses how key and enabling digital tools and solutions and knowledge management can support the achievement of SDGs by 2030. Covering topics such as climate neutral economies, image recognition, and usability evaluation, this premier reference source is an excellent resource for deans, heads of departments, directors, politicians, policymakers, corporate heads, senior general managers, managing directors, librarians, students and educators of higher education, academicians, and researchers."--

Note: Literaturangaben und Index , "Biophilic Connections and Environmental Encounters in the Urban Age takes a multi-disciplinary approach, drawing on the authors' wide range of experience, to provide a greater understanding of the different dimensions of environmental engagement. It considers the ways that we interact with our environments, presenting a comprehensive account of how people negotiate and use the urban landscape. Set within current debates concerning urban futures, societal issues, sustainable cities, health and well-being, the book explores our innate need for contact with the natural world through biophilic design thinking to expand our knowledge base and promote a wider understanding of the importance of these interactions on our collective well-being. It responds to questions such as, what are the urban qualities that support our well-being? As an urbanised society what are the environmental determinants that promote healthy and satisfying lifestyles? Beginning with an overview of concepts relating to biophilia and environmental engagement, it moves through current theory and practice, different pathways and their characteristics, before presenting real world examples and applications through illustrated case studies in the UK, USA and across Europe. With a particular focus on the experience of individuals, the book is essential reading for students, researchers, and practitioners of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, design and health sciences, interested in the future of our cities and the importance of green spaces"-- Provided by publisher

Abstract: Current social, economic, and environmental challenges presented by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals may be partially attained by digitalization and sustainable practices diffusion. The antecedents, occurrences, and consequences of this process are currently under investigation, but the big challenge is to get a systemic view. This book attempts to bring such a view into focus. Digital and Sustainable Transformations in a Post-COVID World is dedicated to studying the consequences of the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the new needs and practices inherent in developing and disseminating digital and clean technologies. Salvador Estrada is a Professor of Marketing, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness and Regional Development at the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. He is currently president of the Research and Teaching Network on Technological Innovation (RIDIT, 2021-2024) and Executive Coordinator of the digital business and education platform International Entrepreneurship Lab Smart Money (IELSM).

Moreover, it is set within the context of current challenges in today’s world of dramatic transition and clearly responds to the need for filling the existing research gap in this area. It also demonstrates excellent knowledge of primary resources and a very good mastery of the various concepts and policy issues. Moreover, it offers an important added value to the theory, research and recent publications of the concerned broad study field. Abstract: The three pillars of sustainability - Environmental protection, Social sustainability, and Economic sustainability - are well known since the Brunndtland Commission report. However, these pillars are meant to be approached and treated as equal counterparts, yet this rarely happens as individuals, corporations, businesses, and institutions will weight one pillar with more importance than the others. The Equal Pillars of Sustainability works to redress this problem and to look at what action is taken or might be taken to achieve equality. It is investigated whether this equality can be achieved in all circumstances or what alternatives need to be considered. It might be argued that Brundtland was wrong, and these three pillars are not the centrepiece of sustainable development. In this book we consider these views and actions to arrive at a view which will inform debate and guide future action. Developments in Corporate Governance and Responsibility as a series offers the latest research on topical issues by international experts and has practical relevance to business managers. This is the only book series endorsed by the Social Responsibility Research Network.

Abstract: "Sport has the potential to be a powerful platform for positive change. This is the first textbook to introduce the fundamentals of sport and sustainable development, examining how sport can be made more sustainable in terms of its social and environmental impact and how sport can achieve more comprehensive social and ecological objectives. Introducing key theory, and looking at how sustainability has been embedded in real-world organisations, projects and developments, the book draws on a range of multidisciplinary perspectives, including sport business and management, development studies, environmental studies, sociology, psychology and political science. Every chapter includes international case studies as well as the voices of professionals who have been successful in achieving sustainable development goals in and through their work. As pressure grows on sport, business and wider society to put sustainability and social and environmental responsibility at the center of their operations, the themes and topics examined in this book become ever more important. This is essential reading for any course on sport and sustainable development, and important background reading for any course in sport management, sport development, event studies, environment and society, business and the environment, or corporate social responsibility"--

Abstract: "This book discusses the pivotal role and importance of African indigenous knowledge systems (AIKS) in promoting, enhancing and sustaining livelihoods in Africa. The argument of the book is that AIKS are of prime importance in the betterment of sustainable livelihoods of people particularly in the rural communities in Africa. The book analyzes the use of AIKS with the objective of making it more acceptable and applicable to the mainstream educational and developmental agendas and programs in Africa. A significant contribution of this book is the promotion of AIKS to increase their visibility in the mainstream knowledge spaces and sustainable use to improve the quality of life and the betterment of livelihoods in Africa, especially in the communal areas where Eurocentric scientific practices are cost prohibitive. This book is geared towards developmental professionals, academic scholars, students, policy makers, researchers and the public who are interested in the field of AIKS and sustainable development in rural communities. The book is based on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches that incorporate the fields of agriculture, cultural and indigenous studies, development studies, education, geography, political science and sociology. Its multidisciplinary approach is of significance to readers as it encompasses perspectives on the multidimensionality and complexities of indigenous knowledges and sustainable community livelihoods and development"--

Abstract: What is artificial intelligence? What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? How does AI affect the SDGs? Artificial Intelligence has a real impact on our lives and on our environment, and the Sustainable Development Goals enable us to evaluate these impacts in a systematic manner. This book shows that doing so requires us to understand the context of AI - the infrastructure it is built on, who develops it, who owns it, who has access to it, who uses it, and what it is used for - rather than relying on an isolationist theory of technology. By doing so, we can analyze not only the direct effects of AI on sustainability, but also the indirect - or second-order - effects. AI for the Sustainable Development Goals shows how AI potentially affects all SDGs - both positively and negatively.

Abstract: "Nanotechnology, if applied strategically and carefully, can provide sustainable solutions to many global challenges and lead us toward sustainable development. Sustainable innovations derived from nanotechnology applications can help us achieve several of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs), a set of forward-looking goals for the world to adopt in order to achieve economic, social and environmental sustainability. The world is facing challenges on all three dimensions of sustainable development--economic, social and environmental. More than one billion people are still living in extreme poverty, as income and wealth inequality are on the rise. The Covid-19 shut down of the global economy is felt most acutely in developing nations, and hundreds of millions of people who had escaped poverty over the past two decades are now being pushed back in to poverty. At the same time, unsustainable consumption and production patterns over many decades have resulted in huge economic and environmental costs as the externalities associated with these unsustainable practices have been left resolved"--

Abstract: Using recycled or repurposed materials to make a new product can be a good sustainability strategy, but how can marketers increase the appeal of such goods to consumers? An experiment by two marketing scholars reveals that this appeal can be stimulated by explicitly telling just a little of the product’s history — and letting consumers spin the rest of the story.

Abstract: Analysing how water development projects unfolded in five rural communities in Mozambique, Emily Van Houweling offers an alternative perspective on water and the politicised nature of water management in the region. Using a hydro-social cycle framework, she demonstrates how water is tied to everyday life in matrilineal Nampula and how social relations, gender roles, and local politics were reconfigured during the project. While centring the experience of community members, Van Houweling also includes the perspectives of project implementers, showing how project plans were translated and negotiated as they worked their way down to the community. Employing the concept of organisational culture, Van Houweling reveals the tensions that resulted from different actors' decision-making processes and motivations, and illuminates possible explanations for the gaps between policy and practice. Exploring women's empowerment, community ownership, and participation, this book facilitates innovative ways for thinking about evaluation, sustainability, and gender-water relations.

Abstract: "A thought-provoking and provocative challenge to consumerism (with plenty of name-dropping and celebrity antics). Sassy and satirical, Shopomania is an economic, environmental and social study. This light-hearted, dark-souled dictionary of coined words, or "shoponyms," takes readers on a roller-coaster ride of avaricious antics and outrageous profligacy. Shopping in one form or another has existed for millennia but, aside from a few slumps, each generation has outdone the previous one. In the past fifty years, shopping--and its associated carbon footprint-- has grown exponentially. Berton argues that if we invented today's consumer culture, then we can invent something to replace it. We can do a better job of making the cycle of stuff truly circular rather than linear. We can be more environmentally, socially and politically conscious of what we buy and how it comes to us--and where it will go after we are finished with it. A species that has made shopping ubiquitous can figure all these things out with little more than co-operation and creativity, and by asking if it is really necessary to "own it now" as we have been told--endlessly-- since childhood. Must we possess a thing to enjoy it? Do we really need all that stuff?"--

Abstract: "Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Cleantech envisions both global cleantech development and international cleantech transfer as crucial means to address climate change and secure sustainable development for planet earth. The book examines what it takes to attract foreign cleantech and encourage domestic cleantech innovation. The author proposes a pathway for developing countries that includes international aid, mutually beneficial international cleantech cooperation and domestic cleantech innovation. Prior to becoming an academician, the author garnered over eighteen years practical experience as a software engineer and attorney at law. The author has drawn on this experience to examine empirical analysis of factual data such as global R&D data, global patenting data, international surveys concerning cleantech transfer and domestic cleantech innovation and proposes effective solutions to address climate change and achieve sustainable development. This book's interdisciplinary and empirical-based analysis and recommendations will be most valuable to policymakers working in climate change, sustainable development, cleantech development or deployment, intellectual property and innovation policy"--
