    Abstract: Judenfeindschaft aus unterschiedlichen Motiven gipfelte unter nationalsozialistischer Ideologie im 20. Jh. im Völkermord. Der Judenhass lebte fort, daneben entstand nach dem Holocaust ein mit neuen Argumenten operierender Antisemitismus, der Scham- und Schuldgefühlen entspringt. Der oft beschworene 'neue Antisemitismus' ist dagegen nichts anderes als die monotone Judenfeindschaft mit ihren Stereotypen, Legenden, Unterstellungen und Schuldzuweisungen, die sich in Jahrhunderten entwickelt hat. Antisemitismus ist ein zentrales Element des Rechts-extremismus, aber er kommt aus der Mitte der Ge­sell­schaft. Doch nicht nur Judenhasser bieten Anlass zur Sorge. 'Islamkritiker' denunzieren pauschal alle Muslime als Judenfeinde und Überengagierte versuchen, Antisemitismus auf die Haltung gegenüber Israel zu verengen und beziehen in ihr Verdikt jede kritische Haltung zur israelischen Politik mit ein. Objektive Kriterien, was Antisemitismus ist, wie er sich historisch entfaltete, in welchen Formen er vorkommt, wie Judenfeindschaft von Israelkritik abzugrenzen ist, sind für eine differenzierte Betrachtung unentbehrlich. Informationen und Argumente dazu finden sich in diesem Buch. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Benz ist Historiker. Er lehrte bis 2011 an der TU Berlin und leitete dort das Zentrum für Antisemitismusforschung. Zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen zur deutschen Geschichte im 20. Jahrhundert, zum Holocaust und zur Ressentimentforschung.

    Abstract: This fascinating and original book is the first to analyse the evolution of internal security policy and external defence policy in Ireland from independence to the present day. Professor O'Halpin examines the very limited concept of external defence understood by the first generation of Irish leaders, going on to chart the state's repeated struggles with the IRA and with other perceived internal and external threats to stability. He explores the state's defence and security relations with Britain and the United States and, drawing extensively on newly released records, he deals authoritatively with problems of subversion, espionage, counterintelligence and codebreaking during the Second World War. In conclusion, the book analyses significant post-Second World War developments, including anti-communist co-operation with Western powers, the emergence of UN service as a key element of Irish foreign and defence policy, the state's response to the Northern Ireland crisis since 1969, and Ireland's difficulties in addressing the collective security dilemmas facing the European Union in the post-Cold War era.; It is essential reading for anyone wishing to understand the development of independent Ireland since 1922

    Abstract: In this important study, Professor McIntosh argues against the suggestion that social regulation was a distinctive feature of the decades around 1600, resulting from Puritanism. Instead, through an examination of 255 village and small-town communities distributed throughout England, Professor McIntosh demonstrates that concern with wrongdoing mounted gradually between 1370 and 1600. In an attempt to maintain good order and enforce ethical conduct, local leaders prosecuted people who slandered or quarrelled with their neighbours, engaged in sexual misdeeds, operated unruly alehouses, or refused to work. Professor McIntosh also explores who the offenders were as well as the factors that led to misbehaviour and shaped responses to it. More generally, Professor McIntosh sheds light on the transition from medieval to early modern patterns and succeeds here in opening up little-known sources and new research methods
