Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes the IBM solution for data deduplication, the IBM System Storage® TS7650G ProtecTIER® Deduplication Gateway, and the IBM System Storage TS7650 ProtecTIER Deduplication Appliance. This solution consists of IBM System Storage ProtecTIER Enterprise Edition V2.3 software and the IBM System Storage TS7650G Deduplication Gateway (3958-DD1 and DD3) hardware, as well as the IBM System Storage TS7650 Deduplication Appliance (3958-AP1). They are designed to address the disk-based data protection needs of enterprise data centers. We introduce data deduplication and IP replication and describe in detail the components that make up IBM System Storage TS7600 with ProtecTIER. We provide extensive planning and sizing guidance that enables you to determine your requirements and the correct configuration for your environment. We then guide you through the basic setup steps on the system and on the host, and describe all operational tasks that might be required during normal day-to-day operation or when upgrading the TS7650G and TS7650. This publication is intended for system programmers, storage administrators, hardware and software planners, and other IT personnel involved in planning, implementing, and using the IBM deduplication solution, as well as anyone seeking detailed technical information about the IBM System Storage TS7600 with ProtecTIER.

Abstract: IBM Information Server is a revolutionary new software platform that helps organizations derive more value from the complex heterogeneous information that is spread across their systems. It enables organizations to integrate disparate data and deliver trusted information wherever and whenever needed, in line and in context, to specific people, applications, and processes. IBM WebSphere Information Analyzer is a data profiling and analysis tool that is a critical component of IBM Information Server. It is designed to help business and data analysts understand the content, quality, and structure of their data sources by automating the data discovery process. Bundled with IBM WebSphere Information Analyzer is AuditStage, a data rule monitoring tool that is designed to help business and data analysts validate data and assess ongoing data quality trends. This book describes a usage scenario that covers all dimensions of profiling, rule building, deployment, and quality monitoring through a data integration life cycle.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication provides an introduction to custom reporting, a feature in Operations Manager. The book describes in detail the commands used to implement and manage custom reports, examples of reports, and reference information for the creation of custom reports within the Operations Manager environment. In any IT environment today there is a frequent and heavy need for reporting capability. These reports may be for managers or for administrative documentation. As the number of reports increases, so does the complexity of the reporting process. For some time Operations Manager has provided an extensive library of standard reports giving administrators the information they need. However, since no two IT organizations are alike, there are always different reporting needs. An organization may require a report that must have data that in the Operations Manager environment is on multiple reports. Rather than submit multiple reports, it would be more efficient to create a report that has just the data objects desired. the custom reporting feature of Operations Manager 3.4.1 provides such functionality. This functionality is discussed further in this book.

Abstract: Many customer sites need to access data from both Windows and UNIX clients. For these environments, Data ONTAP has native multiprotocol support. After the user is authenticated on the network, if the user has both appropriate share or export permissions and the necessary file permissions, the user can access all data from UNIX hosts using NFS or from Windows hosts using CIFS. IBM System Storage N series allows users to access data from both types of clients by supporting multiple security models. This IBM Redbooks publication discusses those models in detail. It can help storage administrators in determining what type of data access configuration is appropriate for their environment.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication provides best practices for deploying IBM System Storage N series storage systems, in support of mySAP Business Suite solutions that run in UNIX and NFS environments that use a DB2 database. We address common storage infrastructure design, operation, and management challenges that are faced by businesses and IT personnel, deploying the latest generation of SAP solutions. Our recommendations are general and do not refer to particular SAP applications nor to the size or scope of specific SAP implementations. We assume that you have a basic understanding of the technology and operation of IBM N series and SAP products. This book was developed from the interaction and results obtained by the technical staff from Network Appliance, SAP, IBM DB2, and our customers.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication describes the procedures for using IBM DB2 Recovery Expert for z/OS to manage the recovery of DB2 for z/OS objects in a data sharing and non-data sharing environment. IBM DB2 Recovery Expert for z/OS is an easy-to-use, automated recovery solution that enables database recovery operations with minimal disruption. Its graphical user interface (GUI) provides powerful reporting and automated recovery capabilities for productive database maintenance and high availability. This book is written for an audience of DB2 for z/OS database administrators (DBA). This book gives you an overview of DB2 Recovery Expert for z/OS, its main features, architecture, recovery semantics, and processing flow. It also describes some of the key considerations in choosing a particular topology to address a business requirement. We provide user scenarios with step-by-step approaches to recover single DB2 for z/OS objects, multiple DB2 for z/OS objects, dropped DB2 for z/OS tables, and DB2 for z/OS subsystems using the IBM Recovery Expert for z/OS tool. We discuss backup and recovery in a DB2 for z/OS environment, the types of failures that might occur, the types of recovery that are supported, the types of objects that can be recovered, the elements and tools of recovery, and the recovery flow. We also provide a brief tutorial of the DB2 Recovery Expert for z/OS GUI client and an overview of the schema level repository (SLR) with recommendations for its maintenance. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: Database cloning is the process by which you create an exact copy of a DB2 database, either by physically copying the data or by performing what is known as a redirected restore. Database cloning is performed frequently by database administrators to provide near-production data for various business needs such as application development, QA testing, and report generation. Traditional methods of cloning a database pose various challenges, including system downtime and degraded system performance during the cloning process. Additionally, a large amount of storage space is required to store each clone. Furthermore, the maintenance overhead can be enormous if each cloned database requires a frequent data refresh. This IBM Redbooks publication describes the process used to create a clone of an IBM DB2 UDB database using FlexClone technology. This book also covers creating a database clone on a disaster recovery site that has replicated data using Data ONTAP SnapMirror technology.
