Eschewing ocularcentric and siloed disciplinary formations, the book takes seriously the radical theoretical and methodological potential of listening. It models a feminist interpretive practice that is not just attuned to how power and privilege are materialized in sound, but that engenders new, counter-hegemonic imaginaries. Focusing on mainstream Bombay cinema, Sundar identifies singing, listening, and speaking as key sites in which gendered notions of identity and difference take form. Charting new paths through seven decades of film, media, and cultural history, Sundar identifies key shifts in women’s playback voices and the Islamicate genre of the qawwali.     Abstract: As much as scholars of Baltic Studies always claim independence for the languages and literature it involves, it is evident that the Baltic and Slavic languages and literature have been and still are in latent contact and exchange. The historical processes had led to interwoven but distinct cultural spheres `on the border.' Our interdisciplinary collection of essays follows several borderlines: Teresa Dalecka (University of Vilnius) discusses the Polish literature in Lithuania since 1990 and the environment that created it. Stephan Kessler (University of Greifswald) sketches a framework of narration and applies it to a story written by Maks Fraj who lives in Lithuania but is from Odessa by origin. Anna Stankeviča, Inna Dvorecka, and Jekaterina Gusakova (each from the University of Daugavpils) give an overview of Latvia's Russophone book market and analyse Vadim Vernik's formula fiction. Sergei Kruk (Stradiņš University in Rīga) discusses the Latvian concept of linguistic integration that roots in the romantic notions of social homogeneity and language as being a shibboleth for successful integration. Nicole Nau (University of Poznań) highlights four techniques for the integration of Slavic verbs and verbal derivational affixes into Latgalian, based on material from the 19th to the 21st century. Anastasija Kostiučenko (University of Greifswald), investigates how the concept of hybridity can be used to describe and better understand the language area and identity issues in Southeast Lithuania

    Abstract: The Urban Diversity Final Publication is a representation of Urban Diversity project that lasted between 2017 and 2020. The project's aim was a creative connection of migrant entrepreneurs and their families in Ljubljana and Graz, and to help encourage and promote diversity in both cities. There are already some support and aid programs for self-employment and business establishment for migrants, however both cities also trace obstacles that abate migrant entrepreneurs from being creative and integrate into the society. These obstacles can be found on different levels, and are not easy to define or remove, while they also represent a large issue for migrant entrepreneurs and the host society, which stuns their potential and its own economic and social progress. The results and achievements in the publication present the good practice of removing social obstacles that already exist elsewhere in Europe

Clare Saunders' book is an important contribution to the literature on social movements and environmentalism. Using the concept of 'environmental networks', it explores the extent to which social movement theory helps us understand how a broad range of environmental organizations interact. It considers the practicalities of social movement theories and it goes on to relate them to the practices of environmental networks. Theoretically and empirically rich, the book draws on extensive survey material with 144 UK environmental organizations, as diverse as not-in-my-backyard (NIMBY) groups, reformists, conservationists and radicals; interviews with more than 40 key campaigners and extensive participant-observation, particularly in London. Focussing particularly on the crucial question of networking dynamics, the book reveals that there are broad ranging network links across the movements' spatial and ideological dimensions. Combined with inevitable ideological clashes and a degree of sectarian rivalry, these links helps produce vibrant environmental networks that together work to protect and/or preserve the environment.     Abstract: Studies on the knowledge society and regional innovation systems and their contribution to economic growth are already well established in research literature. This book ('Geographical Perspectives on the Knowledge Society in Slovenia') is based on a geographical analysis of connections between technological knowledge, competitiveness factors, and economic effects. It proceeds from the hypothesis that economic effectiveness in a region originates from the quality of human capital, in which innovations are the precondition for social progress, competitiveness, and developmental success. This article analyzes the spatial expansion of the knowledge society based on socioeconomic and development indicators in Slovenia. The key finding is that these areas are unevenly distributed. The high share of centers of national importance and neighboring suburban municipalities in emerging urban regions stands out in particular. Areas with a high percentage of creative professions are more innovative and their economic and social development is more successful
    Abstract: Raziskave o družbi znanja, regionalnih inovacijskih sistemih in njihovem prispevku h gospodarski rasti so v znanstveni literaturi že uveljavljene. Pričujoča knjiga temelji na geografski analizi povezanosti med tehnološkim razvojem, faktorji konkurenčnosti in gospodarskimi učinki. Izhaja iz predpostavke, da gospodarska učinkovitost v pokrajini izhaja iz kakovosti človeškega kapitala, kjer so inovacije predpogoj za družbeni napredek, konkurenčnost in razvojni uspeh. V publikaciji analiziramo prostorsko razprostranjenost družbe znanja na podlagi socialno-ekonomskih in razvojnih kazalnikov v Sloveniji. Ključna ugotovitev je, da so ta območja neenakomerno razporejena. Z največjimi deleži izstopajo predvsem zaposlitvena središča nacionalnega pomena in okoliške obmestne občine v nastajajočih mestnih regijah. Območja z velikim deležem ustvarjalnih poklicev so bolj inovativna, njihov ekonomski in družbeni razvoj pa je uspešnejši

    Abstract: In Slovenia, quite a few researchers have studied fertility and suicide, but rarely have the connections between both phenomena been made. The author aims to overcome simplified explanations of falling fertility and rising suicide rates by studying population dynamics as a socially relevant issue both at the Slovenian as well as the global level. She studies fertility and suicide by focusing on the historical development of population issues, recent theoretical population analyses and demographic statistics. Fertility and suicide are analysed from the viewpoint of approaches developed in the social sciences and humanities. In the second part of the monograph, these approaches are applied to fertility and suicide trends in Slovenia and press media reports on both issues.By providing an overview of the history of studying fertility and suicide in Slovenia and abroad, the author has concluded that most approaches to fertility and suicide are grounded on the premises of the modernisation theory. Nevertheless, she was not discouraged to study alternative approaches to fertility and suicide that, according to researchers in the humanities, do not necessarily have a lower explanatory potential
    Abstract: V slovenski javnosti obstaja kar nekaj del, ki obravnavajo rodnostno in samomorilno vedenje, vendar se proučevalci obeh oblik vedenja niso podrobneje ukvarjali s proučevanjem obeh pojavov skupaj. Avtorica poskuša preseči poenostavljene razlage padanja rodnosti in zviševanja samomorilnosti ter razčlenjuje oblikovanje prebivalstvene dinamike kot družbeno pomembne teme na ravni Slovenije kot tudi na širši, globalni ravni. Problematiko obravnava tako z vidika zgodovinskega razvoja prebivalstvenega vprašanja kot tudi z vidika sodobnejših teoretskih razprav o prebivalstvu in demografskih statistikah. Rodnost in samomorilnost proučuje v luči družboslovnih in humanističnih pristopov, ki jih v drugem delu aplicira na trende rodnosti in samomorilnosti v Sloveniji in poročanje tiska o obeh pojavih

    Abstract: The present research considers factors of fertility behaviour in Slovenia. The analysis of the whole territory of Slovenia is complemented with the empirical research including a fieldwork in three sample regions, all of it being rounded off with the synthesis in a form of conclusions and mutual comparisons. Sample regions (Prekmurje, Zasavje in območje upravne enote Domžale) represent three main types of regional-geographic structure. The research temporally coincides with the period of second demographic transition in Slovenia commencing after 1980. The emphasis was put on recent development of fertility in Slovenia and sample regions. That was also a starting point of most comparisons evaluating the role of various factors in shaping fertility behaviour as well as possibilities of geographical approach to fertility research. In this sense the influence of geographical factors of fertility was of particular interest
    Abstract: V Sloveniji se že več kot dve desetletji rodi premalo otrok, da bi nadomestili generacije v odhajanju. Zavedanje, da prenizka rodnost lahko pripelje do neslutenih razsežnosti družbenih konfliktov, je napeljalo avtorja, da se je lotil podrobne proučitve mehanizmov in ozadij oblikovanja rodnostnega obnašanja. Avtor je analizo utemeljil na treh vzorčnih območjih (Prekmurje, Zasavje in območje Upravne enote Domžale), ki predstavljajo tri glavne tipe regionalnogeografske strukture Slovenije. To je bilo tudi izhodišče večine primerjav za ugotavljanje vloge različnih dejavnikov pri oblikovanju rodnostnega obnašanja in možnosti geografskega pristopa pri preučevanju rodnostne problematike. Knjiga je prispevek k poznavanju vrste dejavnikov in njihove pestre vloge v součinkovanju in spreminjanju rodnostnega obnašanja, je pa tudi podlaga za konkretne korake pri oblikovanju prebivalstvene politike
