Abstract: Carlo Antici e l'ideologia della Restaurazione in Italia traces Antici's career as an essayist, translator of works of the Catholic Restoration and contributor to journals. This appraisal brings to light the link (albeit not designatory) with the ideology of conservative romanticism, as witnessed by the citations from Chateaubriand, the early Lamennais and De Maistre. Penned in the form of utopian essay, Antici's standpoint tends towards a theocratic concept and a renewed patrimonialist vision of the State, surfacing in the hope of an Empire-Papacy combination. The relationship with Giacomo Leopardi in its turn triggers a series of suggestions for reading destined to be independently reworked by a nephew anything but deaf to dialogue with his uncle, readings that range from the ancients, especially Greek, to the aforementioned contemporary French Catholic writers

Abstract: This book, the result of a lengthy labour of cataloguing and research, continues the indexing and recording of the unpublished epistolary material conserved in the Dessí fond, launched in 2003 by Chiara Andrei with the edition of the family correspondence (Firenze, FUP). Now, through 1,900 letters from friends and readers, Francesca Nencioni offers a different and more ample overview of the fundamental stages in the life and works of the writer, focusing above all on the years of his university training in Pisa. Of particular interest is the appendix of carefully annotated unpublished texts, which offers 19 letters from Dessí to friends and scholars, the complete two-way correspondence with Walter Binni, and the letters sent to the friend and disciple of the great historian, Delio Cantimori. Press reviews: 26/10/2009: Dessì e la voce "lontana e bianca" del 1955 12/2009: "L'immaginazione" n. 251

Abstract: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man presents a non-linear compositional progression, characterised by continual fractures, bifurcations and revisions; the genetic dossier includes pre-compositional notes and works that were never published, such as Epiphanies, A Portrait of the Artist and Stephen Hero. The genetic analysis of this long process of writing, the documentation of which covers a period of around fourteen years, reveals not only how the Portrait was conceived and composed, but also Joyce's evolution as a writer from the very first evidence of his literary activity. This new perspective on Joyce's mode of composition opens the way to a range of potential interpretations of the individual texts, as well as methodological and theoretical insights regarding genetic criticism

Abstract: This collection of essays by young specialists in linguistic disciplines addresses the oldest - and yet still topical - issues in the debate on language. It also includes a contribution by the famous Russian semiologist Boris Uspenskij (pupil, friend and collaborator of L. Hjelmslev, R. Jakobson and M. Lotman). Valentina Martina explores the relation between the plane of linguistic meanings and reality through an analysis of the concept of "system". The article by Artemij Keidan addresses the problem of the definition of deixis and its role in the disambiguation of proposition, with special reference to structuralism and contemporary theories on direct reference. The work of Luca Alfieri takes its cue from recent studies on cognition to demonstrate the unsustainability of the Jacobsonian dichotomy of metaphor and metonymy. Rounding off the book is an essay by Boris Uspenskij on the role of personal pronouns in the structure of language, in semiotics and in human communication, lavishly illustrated with examples and historical curiosities

Abstract: Lettere a Ruggero Jacobbi offers an extensive register of over a thousand pieces of letters sent to the author over a period of forty years (from 1938 to 1981) and of about seventy letters written by him to various correspondents, giving an account of all the epistolary material preserved in the Jacobbi Collection of the "Bonsanti Contemporary Archive" of the Scientific Literary Cabinet G.P. Vieusseux of Florence. From the unpublished documents, carefully filed by Francesca Bartolini, the figure of an intellectual among the most significant of the Italian twentieth century emerges, always present in the cultural debates of the time and passionate and responsive towards the literary and theatrical world. Thanks to the many voices which intertwine different countries and ages, we can reconstruct life starting from the years of Hermeticism, to which he was close in his early youth, find traces of the sixteen years spent in Brazil, retrace the last Italian decades, in which he simultaneously exercised the activities of reviewer, director and theatrical author, essayist, literary critic, historian of literature, university professor, poet and director of the Academy of Dramatic Art "Silvio D'Amico". The names that recur are numerous and authoritative, even of senders of Lusitanian and Hispanic culture, testifying to the authoritative presence of Jacobbi on the European scene. Some of these important names are Murilo Mendes, Jorge Amado, Ricardo Cassiano and, among the Italians, Italo Calvino, Alessandro Parronchi, Vasco Pratolini, Salvatore Quasimodo, Vittorio Sereni and Elio Vittorini. In the appendix that closes the volume, the transcription of some letters dealing with writing, criticism, friendship and commitment is proposed

Abstract: In May 2004, the delegates of the Library Commission of the CRuI had already identified the issue of electronic publishing as one of the strategic aspects to be addressed and explored with the utmost attention. The setting up of the working group on Electronic Publishing, co-ordinated by the University of Florence, formalised this interest, stimulating the analysis of the state of the art in this field in Italy, the opportunities which it offered to the academic world and the definition of possible lines of development. The "Recommendations" comprised in this publication are addressed to the delegates of the Chancellors of the Italian universities and their collaborators, and intended to provide information and suggestions for the development of electronic publishing initiatives. They are consequently designed not only as a tool for help and guidance for those who are already moving in the direction of a University publishing initiative, but also as an invitation to reflect on the importance that electronic publishing is acquiring for the teaching and scientific activities of the future

Abstract: On 12, 13 and 14 May 2003 the second edition of the study days on didactic materials for the teaching of foreign languages was held in Florence. Numerous language teachers, mainly active in Italian universities but also in private and public high schools took part in these study days. The speakers addressed a wide range of issues ranging from the implications of the enlargement of the European Union to the educational use of new technologies, from aspects of contrastive linguistics to the use of foreign languages for the teaching of non-linguistic subjects. From this dialogue between different experiences and cultures, an extremely dynamic picture emerged, open to new methodological and scientific stimuli. The volume is the significant collection of over 40 interventions and represents a contribution to the discussion on the teaching of foreign languages
