Abstract: The amputation of a limb is a surgical intervention used as a last resort to remove irreparably damaged, diseased, or congenitally malformed limbs where retention of the limb is a threat to the well-being of the individual. The procedure traumatically alters the body image, but often leaves sensations that refer to the missing body part, the phantom limb. Abstract: While mobile phones enjoy the largest production volume ever of any consumer electronics products, the demands they place on radio-frequency (RF) transceivers are particularly aggressive, especially on integration with digital processors, low area, low power consumption, while being robust against process-voltage-temperature variations. Since mobile terminals inherently operate on batteries, their power budget is severely constrained. To keep up with the ever increasing data-rate, an ever-decreasing power per bit is required to maintain the battery lifetime. The RF oscillator is the second most power-hungry block of a wireless radio (after power amplifiers). Consequently, any power reduction in an RF oscillator will greatly benefit the overall power efficiency of the cellular transceiver. Moreover, the RF oscillators' purity limits the transceiver performance. The oscillator's phase noise results in power leakage into adjacent channels in a transmit mode and reciprocal mixing in a receive mode. On the other hand, the multi-standard and multi-band transceivers that are now trending demand wide tuning range oscillators. However, broadening the oscillator's tuning range is usually at the expense of die area (cost) or phase noise. The main goal of this book is to bring forth the exciting and innovative RF oscillator structures that demonstrate better phase noise performance, lower cost, and higher power efficiency than currently achievable. Abstract: Sensing the Everyday is a multi-sited ethnographic inquiry based on fieldwork experiences and sharp everyday observations in the era of crisis. Blending sophisticated theoretical analyses with original ethnographic data, C. Nadia Seremetakis journeys from Greece to Vienna, Edinburgh, Albania, Ireland, and beyond. Social crisis is seen through its transnational multiplication of borders, thresholds and margins, divisions, and localities as linguistic, bodily, sensory, and performative sites of the quotidian in process. The book proposes everyday life not as a sanctuary or as a recessed zone distanced from the structural violence of the state and the market, but as a condition of im/possibility, unable to be lived as such, yet still an encapsulating habitus. There the impossibility of the quotidian is concretized as fragmentary and fragmenting material forces. Abstract: In the absence of a widely accepted and common definition of social enterprise (SE), a large research project, the ""International Comparative Social Enterprise Models"" (ICSEM) Project, was carried out over a five-year period; it involved more than 200 researchers from 55 countries and relied on bottom-up approaches to capture the SE phenomenon. This strategy made it possible to take into account and give legitimacy to locally embedded approaches, thus resulting in an analysis encompassing a wide diversity of social enterprises, while simultaneously allowing for the identification of major SE models to delineate the field on common grounds at the international level. These SE models reveal or confirm an overall trend towards new ways of sharing the responsibility for the common good in today's economies and societies. We tend to consider as good news the fact that social enterprises actually stem from all parts of the economy. Indeed, societies are facing many complex challenges at all levels, from the local to the global level. The diversity and internal variety of SE models are a sign of a broadly shared willingness to develop appropriate-although sometimes embryonic-responses to these challenges, on the basis of innovative economic/business models driven by a social mission. In spite of their weaknesses, social enterprises may be seen as advocates for and vehicles of the general interest across the whole economy. Of course, the debate about privatisation, deregulation and globalised market competition-all factors that may hinder efforts in the search for the common good-has to be addressed as well. Abstract: This book provides an overview of poverty and well-being in Russia. Increasing poverty rates during the 1990s were followed by greater attention to social policies in the 2000s and increased efforts to engage people in socially oriented NGOs and 'encourage' them to contribute to the fulfillment of social aims. What impact did these developments have on the prevalence of poverty in contemporary Russian society? Tracing continuities from the Soviet system alongside recent developments such as the falling price of oil, economic sanctions, and changes in directions of social policy, this book explores the impact of poverty, inequality and social programmes. Abstract: Cybersecurity and Privacy issues are becoming an important barrier for a trusted and dependable global digital society development. Cyber-criminals are continuously shifting their cyber-attacks specially against cyber-physical systems and IoT, since they present additional vulnerabilities due to their constrained capabilities, their unattended nature and the usage of potential untrustworthiness components. Likewise, identity-theft, fraud, personal data leakages, and other related cyber-crimes are continuously evolving, causing important damages and privacy problems for European citizens in both virtual and physical scenarios. In this context, new holistic approaches, methodologies, techniques and tools are needed to cope with those issues, and mitigate cyberattacks, by employing novel cyber-situational awareness frameworks, risk analysis and modeling, threat intelligent systems, cyber-threat information sharing methods, advanced big-data analysis techniques as well as exploiting the benefits from latest technologies such as SDN/NFV and Cloud systems. In addition, novel privacy-preserving techniques, and crypto-privacy mechanisms, identity and eID management systems, trust services, and recommendations are needed to protect citizens' privacy while keeping usability levels. The European Commission is addressing the challenge through different means, including the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program, thereby financing innovative projects that can cope with the increasing cyberthreat landscape. Abstract: Hacia finales de la década de los ochenta, en Colombia, se comienza a aplicar un proceso de estabilización y ajuste estructural de la economía, basados en las nuevas reglas del mercado que se implantaron por las recomendaciones de organismos multilaterales como el F.M.I., como una estrategia para alcanzar una senda de crecimiento del país en el largo plazo. Lo anterior, acompañado de la reforma constitucional de 1991, condujo a una fase de debilitamiento de las condiciones laborales que inicialmente abarcó el periodo 1996-2001 y luego se profundizó (Martínez, 2008). Así, al entrar el país en las dinámicas de apertura económica y globalización, se involucraba la flexibilidad y disminución de los costos laborales, como una forma de estimular la inversión y ponerse a la par con mercados externos donde la mano de obra es barata y fácil para contratar, lo que llevó a una situación de inestabilidad e incertidumbre en el trabajador en materia laboral (Pizarro, 2001)

Abstract: Como refería en su prólogo, era la culminación de un largo trabajo, que tuvo su punto de partida con la elaboración del Documento de Consenso sobre Pie Diabético que el Hospital Isaías Duarte Cancino, aprueba. En su divulgación, este Tratado ha agotado su edición inicial, y como referente útil que pretende ser, precisa de una actualización en determinados conceptos. El interés que los profesionales de la salud, en especial cirujanos vasculares venimos manifestando por la entidad patológica englobada en el concepto de "pie diabético" deriva fundamentalmente de la gravedad de sus manifestaciones clínicas, cuya expresión final, significada por la pérdida parcial o total de la extremidad, acontece en el ámbito de la práctica clínica. Las lesiones que el enfermo diabético puede llegar a desarrollar en sus extremidades inferiores a lo largo del período evolutivo de la enfermedad constituyen, sin ningún tipo de discusión, uno de los problemas asistenciales más graves, tanto desde el punto de vista personal, familiar y socio-sanitario, en el inicio del siglo XXI, en el contexto de una enfermedad como la diabetes mellitus de creciente incidencia y prevalencia. No obstante esta grave situación, las complicaciones que tienen su origen en el pie diabético han acreditado amplias y reales posibilidades de reducirse en aquellos ámbitos hospitalarios en que se han desarrollado y aplicado con rigor las pautas de prevención. Por esta razón, y a criterio de los autores de esta Tesis, únicamente podrá alcanzarse una inflexión en esta grave patología si todos los profesionales de la salud nos implicamos en los protocolos diagnósticos y terapias, pero fundamentalmente en aquellos de prevención primaria y secundaria. Por esta razón, y conscientes de que el abordaje coherente, integral y riguroso del problema del pie diabético sólo puede lograrse desde un enfoque multidisciplinario, esta Tesis reúne el aporte de expertos en ortopedia y medicina interna, medicina familiar microbiología, y cirugía vascular, con la finalidad de que el lector tenga las máximas garantías, con su lectura y consulta, de conseguir una visión unitaria del problema del pie diabético

The Congress addressed the broader context of arsenic research aligned on the following themes: Theme 1: Arsenic Behaviour in Changing Environmental Media Theme 2: Arsenic in a Changing Agricultural Ecosystem Theme 3: Health Impacts of Environmental Arsenic Theme 4: Technologies for Arsenic Immobilization and Clean Water Blueprints Theme 5: Sustainable Mitigation and Management Arsenic in drinking water (mainly groundwater) has emerged as an issue of global health concern. During last decade, the presence of arsenic in rice, possibly also other food of plant origins, has attained increasing attention. Abstract: As a first step towards tackling vocal presence as a matter of time, the proposed strategy is to attend to a particularly crucial moment in voice training: listening to one’s own voice while in act of voicing. Even if voicers are trained to ‘be in the moment’ or to ‘achieve presence,’ they can only rely on post-voicing auditory feedback or pre-voicing kinaesthetic awareness; voice perception is always-not-yet there or always-already there. When asked about definitions of vocal presence or whether they have developed a definition of vocal presence for the specific purposes of their studio work, all interviewees admit the complexity or impossibility of the task. Vocal presence can move beyond the bounds of the individual body and physiological or psychological notions of tension and release. Jane Boston asserts that an advantageous starting point for training vocal presence is breath, as ‘phonation depends on the appropriate manipulation of breath pressure and its conscious application for production of efficient soundwaves’

Abstract: In 2008, the first mandate of President Michelle Bachelet and the (much delayed) ratification of ILO169 by Chile relaunched the debate on Indigenous rights throughout the country. In particular, this debate focused on their right to (prior) consultation. Since then, Chile has held a number of consultations with Indigenous Peoples. Some of these processes have focused (and overlapped) on the very same issues over several years. This is the case with the consultations on the constitutional recognition of Indigenous Peoples and the creation of a Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, a National Council of Indigenous Peoples, and (other) Councils of Indigenous Peoples. Between 2009 and 2017, the nine Indigenous Peoples of Chile were consulted five times on some or all of these issues. Furthermore, the legislation over the regulation of this right has changed considerably over the years, creating further confusion. Against this background, this chapter analyses the process and results of selected cases of consultations with Indigenous Peoples in Chile, and explores the reasons for their failures

Abstract: Anglo-American and European normative philosophy is essentially individualist in character, while African philosophy is of a collectivist kind. Such general statements are common within the comparative literature on these philosophical traditions. Individualism considers the individual, taken separately, to be of sole and ultimate concern. Thaddeus Metz develops an alternative account based on the fundamental value of harmonious relationships without invoking any perfectionist underpinning. In fact, Metz’s approach does not pertain to character. Republicanism arguably formulates the most powerful challenge to liberalism within contemporary Anglo-American and European philosophy. The republican tradition is older than the liberal one, going back to Athens and Rome and the adaptation of ancient political thought in the early modern period. Proponents of the philosophy of Ubuntu consider humane relationships as the core concern of normative thought. Republicanism, by contrast, starts from a negative account of what kind of relationships should be avoided, namely relationships of domination

Abstract: Digital self-tracking devices and data have become normal elements of everyday life. Imagining Personal Data examines the implications of the rise of body monitoring and digital self-tracking for how we inhabit, experience and imagine our everyday worlds and futures. Through a focus on how it feels to live in environments where data is emergent, present and characterized by a sense of uncertainty, the authors argue for a new interdisciplinary approach to understanding the implications of self-tracking, which attends to its past, present and possible future. Building on social science approaches, the book accounts for the concerns of scholars working in design, philosophy and human-computer interaction. It problematizes the body and senses in relation to data and tracking devices, presents an accessible analytical account of the sensory and affective experiences of self-tracking, and questions the status of big data. Abstract: This book is a comparative study which sheds a new empirical and theoretical light on the nature of post-communist capitalism in 11 EU new member countries of Central and Eastern Europe, or CEE11. Extending and modifying a well-established conceptual framework for comparative capitalism rooted in new institutional economics and economic sociology, it offers a better explanation for transition-specific and path-dependent factors inherent to systemic transformation. Based on a vast dataset, the book therefore illuminates the (dis)similarities among the institutional architectures in the EU countries. Thus, the book argues that the evolving capitalism in Central and Eastern Europe exhibits strong symptoms of institutional ambiguity or a ""patchwork"" nature which makes it a distinct category from any of the co-existing models of Western European capitalism. Abstract: This book discusses the ongoing revolution of dignity in human history as the work of ‘humanist outliers’: small groups and individuals dedicated to compassionate social emancipation. It argues that anti-authoritarian revolutions like 1989’s ‘Autumn of the Nations’ succeeded in large part due to cultural and political innovations springing from such small groups. The author explores the often ingenious ways in which these maladapted and liminal ‘outliers’ forged a cooperative and dialogic mindset among previously resentful and divided communities. Abstract: From Waste to Value investigates how streams of organic waste and residues can be transformed into valuable products, to foster a transition towards a sustainable and circular bioeconomy. The studies are carried out within a cross-disciplinary framework, drawing on a diverse set of theoretical approaches and defining different valorisation pathways. Organic waste streams from households and industry are becoming a valuable resource in today’s economies. Substances that have long represented a cost to companies and a burden for society are now becoming an asset. Abstract: As the number of Chinese students learning English increases worldwide, the need for teachers to understand the characteristics and challenges facing this group of learners grows. This is particularly true for those students moving from an English as a Foreign Language context to an English as a Second Language/International Language one where they experience academic, linguistic and sociocultural transitions. Drawing on over 20 years’ experience teaching English courses to Chinese learners, the author aims to highlight key findings to aid understanding, improve teachers’ practice and offer pedagogical recommendations. Abstract: In the absence of a widely accepted and common definition of social enterprise (SE), a large research project, the "International Comparative Social Enterprise Models" (ICSEM) Project, was carried out over a five-year period; it involved more than 200 researchers from 55 countries and relied on bottom-up approaches to capture the SE phenomenon. This strategy made it possible to take into account and give legitimacy to locally embedded approaches, thus resulting in an analysis encompassing a wide diversity of social enterprises, while simultaneously allowing for the identification of major SE models to delineate the field on common grounds at the international level. These SE models reveal or confirm an overall trend towards new ways of sharing the responsibility for the common good in today's economies and societies. We tend to consider as good news the fact that social enterprises actually stem from all parts of the economy. Indeed, societies are facing many complex challenges at all levels, from the local to the global level. The diversity and internal variety of SE models are a sign of a broadly shared willingness to develop appropriate although sometimes embryonic-responses to these challenges, on the basis of innovative economic/business models driven by a social mission. In spite of their weaknesses, social enterprises may be seen as advocates for and vehicles of the general interest across the whole economy. Of course, the debate about privatisation, deregulation and globalised market competition-all factors that may hinder efforts in the search for the common good-has to be addressed as well. Abstract: This book delves into the reasons behind and the consequences of the implementation gap regarding the right to prior consultation and the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) of Indigenous Peoples in Latin America. In recent years, the economic and political projects of Latin American States have become increasingly dependent on the extractive industries. This has resulted in conflicts when governments and international firms have made considerable investments in those lands that have been traditionally inhabited and used by Indigenous Peoples, who seek to defend their rights against exploitative practices. After decades of intense mobilisation, important gains have been made at international level regarding the opportunity for Indigenous Peoples to have a say on these matters. Notwithstanding this, the right to prior consultation and the FPIC of Indigenous Peoples on the ground are far from being fully applied and guaranteed. And, even when prior consultation processes are carried out, the outcomes remain uncertain. Abstract: By studying the history and sources of the Thomas Christians of India, a community of pre-colonial Christian heritage, this book revisits the assumption that Christianity is Western and colonial and that Christians in the non-West are products of colonial and post-colonial missionaries. Christians in the East have had a difficult time getting heard—let alone understood as anti-colonial. This is a problem, especially in studies on India, where the focus has typically been on North India and British colonialism and its impact in the era of globalization. This book analyzes texts and contexts to show how communities of Indian Christians predetermined Western expansionist goals and later defined the Western colonial and Indian national imaginary. Combining historical research and literary analysis, the author prompts a re-evaluation of how Indian Christians reacted to colonialism in India and its potential to influence ongoing events of religious intolerance. Through a rethinking of a postcolonial theoretical framework, this book argues that Thomas Christians attempted an anti-colonial turn in the face of ecclesiastical and civic occupation that was colonial at its core. African scholars have demonstrated that precolonial African cultures generated ideas and arguments which were at once truly philosophical and distinctively African, and several contemporary African thinkers are now established figures in the philosophical mainstream. Yet, despite the universality of its themes, relevant contributions from African philosophy have rarely permeated global philosophical debates. Critical intellectual excavation has also tended to prioritize precolonial thought, overlooking more recent sources of home-grown philosophical thinking such as Africa’s intellectually rich liberation movements. This book demonstrates the potential for constructive interchange between currents of thought from African philosophy and other intellectual currents within philosophy. Abstract: It is argued in most academic literature that Business Model (BM) is a general model for how any business runs or should be run, it is the "blueprint of the business". Conversely we argue that no business has just one BM, one model on which it runs all its business or intends to run its business. In other words the BM can be used for "as-is" and the "to-be" businesses. However our research, in contrast to the other BM frameworks, indicates that businesses have more BMs - both "as-is" and "to-be" BMs - the multi business model approach. This was already theoretically indicated by Markides and Charitou in 2004, and again in the Casadesus-Masanell and Ricart model of 2010, but sadly no one in the BM community has followed up on this since then. It could have made a breakthrough in our understanding of BMs, Business Model Innovation (BMI) and Strategic BMI. The Multi Business Model Innovation Approach addresses the concerns in the BM community and in BMI practice to just focus on the ideation and conceptualization of BMs. "BM canvassing", innovating BM building blocks or BM dimensions when carrying out BMI, so-called "blind business model innovation", is not sufficient to run and understand a business today. BMs and BMI must address all the different levels in a business. All BMs are objects to BMI and should be used to maximize the performance and sustainability of the business. The core business and all levels BMs, such as BM dimension components, BM dimensions, BM portfolio, and Business Model Ecosystem (BMES), should all be considered for BMI. The book addresses and documents a gap in BM research and the BM community - but also proposes a generic definition and language of a BM and BMI layers. The significance and importance of this work is related to significant and unexplored possibilities that BMI offers today, and can offer tomorrow. When we thoroughly understand all levels, dimensions and components of the business and its business models, and we are able to communicate, work and innovate with business models at all levels together, then a next step in BM and BMI research and practice can be taken. Abstract: Como se dijo en la presentación a esta obra (primer volumen), este segundo volumen contiene la tercera parte de este proyecto editorial, titulada "Estudios de poesía y prosa". Bajo este título se agrupan diecinueve contribuciones que estudian a fondo la compleja y unitaria obra literaria de Álvaro Mutis, desde una serie de contextos y e interpretaciones particulares. Las contribuciones aquí presentadas provienen, principalmente, de la autoría de catedráticos de literatura y expertos conocedores de la obra de Mutis, cuya actividad se desarrolla en España, Alemania, Estados Unidos, Francia, Colombia, México, Italia, Venezuela y Brasil. Construida con una eficaz pero largamente cavilada preparación durante los años ochenta, la saga de novelas que componen las Empresas y tribulaciones de Maqroll el Gaviero supone un complejo juego de referencias y relaciones tanto con la obra poética anterior a ella, como con una serie de relatos cortos y obras periodísticas. Sobre este punto, cabe preguntarse, además: ¿Qué supone, a nivel de creación artística y poética, este inusual fenómeno? ¿Cómo debe leerse esta obra que establece contrapuntos entre la poesía y la prosa? ¿Cómo deben pensarse y asumirse los diversos planos y escenarios intertextuales presentes en la obra? En los tiempos en que poesía y narración no habían separado sus caminos, la figura del viajero se convirtió en el primer referente de la literatura de Occidente: Ulises. A su estirpe viajera pertenecen Eneas y Jasón, Don Quijote y Simbad, Lord Jim y Sal Paradise. También Maqroll el Gaviero. Como Ulises, Maqroll nace de la poesía para contar la historia de sus empresas y tribulaciones. Cuando lo encontramos en la primera de las novelas de Mutis que lo tiene por protagonista, sentimos ya el peso del fardo de su pasado doblándole la espalda. No es un personaje nuevo, la misma estructura de la novela nos lo revela, llena de referencias, de guiños a pasadas andanzas, de sobreentendidos. El autor conoce de antiguo al Gaviero y el lector se siente ante un relato heredado, lo que explica la inmediata dimensión legendaria ganada por el personaje ya en su primer paso por la narrativa. Maqroll es el héroe cantado por el Mutis poeta y bajo esa lírica luz se torna leyenda en su prosa, pues si la poesía es el territorio de la experiencia donde se forjan los héroes, la narrativa es el cofre donde se guarda memoria de ellos

Abstract: Soft and Stiffness-controllable Robotics Solutions for Minimally Invasive Surgery presents the results of a research project, funded by European Commission, STIFF-FLOP: STIFFness controllable Flexible and Learn-able manipulator for surgical Operations. In Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), tools go through narrow openings and manipulate soft organs that can move, deform, or change stiffness. There are limitations on modern laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgical systems due to restricted access through Trocar ports, lack of haptic feedback, and difficulties with rigid robot tools operating inside a confined space filled with organs. Also, many control algorithms suffer from stability problems in the presence of unexpected conditions. Yet biological "manipulators", like the octopus arm can manipulate objects while controlling the stiffness of selected body parts and being inherently compliant when interacting with objects. STIFF-FLOP robot is an innovative soft robotic arm that can squeeze through a standard MIS, reconfigure itself and stiffen by hydrostatic actuation to perform compliant force control tasks while facing unexpected situations. Abstract: The semiconductor industry is a fundamental building block of the new economy, there is no area of modern life untouched by the progress of nanoelectronics. The electronic chip is becomingan ever-increasing portion of system solutions, starting initially from less than 5% in the 1970 microcomputer era, to more than 60% of the final cost of a mobile telephone, 50% of the price of a personal computer (representing nearly 100% of the functionalities) and 30% of the price of a monitor in the early 2000's.Interest in utilizing the (sub-)mm-wave frequency spectrum for commercial and research applications has also been steadily increasing. Abstract: Álvaro Mutis forma parte de la generación en la poesía hispanoamericana que emerge después de la vanguardia radical de las décadas de 1920 y 1930. Ya no se trataba de experimentar como en la poesía cubo-cubista o de las palabras gimnásticas en Altazor, de Huidobro; en lo críptico-barroco del Trilce vallejiano; en lo juguetón desparpajado ultraísta de los Veinte poemas para ser leídos en el tranvía, de Girondo; o en el beligerante futurista del poema de la urbe, del estridentista Maples Arce. Esa nueva generación, arbitrariamente definida por los nacidos entre 1910 y 1925 (Enrique Molina, José Lezama Lima, Emilio Adolfo Westphalen, Octavio Paz, Juan Liscano, Gonzalo Rojas, Olga Orozco, el propio Mutis y Jorge Eduardo Eielson, por sólo mencionar algunos), se vincula con la poesía exuberante, acumulativa, de Residencia en la tierra (1933, 1935), de Pablo Neruda. Abstract: El presente libro es un acto de homenaje y conmemoración a la vida y la obra del escritor colombiano Álvaro Mutis (1923-2013). En este proyecto editorial se han congregado escritores, poetas, académicos e intelectuales de Colombia, México, Venezuela, Estados Unidos, Brasil, Italia, Alemania, España, Francia, Uruguay y Chile, con el propósito de llevar a cabo un homenaje al autor de las Empresas y tribulaciones de Maqroll el Gaviero, ganador, a su vez, de importantísimas distinciones, entre las que cabe resaltar, de forma resumida, el Premio Nacional de Letras (1974) y de Poesía (1983) de Colombia, el Premio Príncipe de Asturias (1997), el Premio Reina Sofía de Poesía (1997) y el Premio Cervantes (2001), entre muchos otros. Mutis ha determinado, sin duda alguna, a una legión extensa de ávidos lectores de las aventuras y penurias de Maqroll el Gaviero, el personaje central tanto de su poesía como de su prosa. Abstract: Throughout the world there is evidence of mounting interest in marine resources and new maritime industries to create jobs, economic growth and to help in the provision of energy and food security. Expanding populations, insecurity of traditional sources of supply and the effects of climate change add urgency to a perceived need to address and overcome the serious challenges of working in the maritime environment. Four promising areas of activity for 'Blue Growth' have been identified at European Union policy level including Aquaculture; Renewable Energy (offshore wind, wave and tide); Seabed Mining; and Blue Biotechnology. Work has started to raise the technological and investment readiness levels (TRLs and IRLs) of these prospective industries drawing on the experience of established maritime industries such as Offshore Oil and Gas; Shipping; Fisheries and Tourism. An accord has to be struck between policy makers and regulators on the one hand, anxious to direct research and business incentives in effective and efficient directions, and developers, investors and businesses on the other, anxious to reduce the risks of such potentially profitable but innovative investments.The EU H2020 MARIBE (Marine Investment for the Blue Economy) funded project was designed to identify the key technical and non-technical challenges facing maritime industries and to place them into the social and economic context of the coastal and ocean economy. MARIBE went on to examine with companies, real projects for the combination of marine industry sectors into multi-use platforms (MUPs). The purpose of this book is to publish the detailed analysis of each prospective and established maritime business sector. Sector experts working to a common template explain what these industries are, how they work, their prospects to create wealth and employment, and where they currently stand in terms of innovation, trends and their lifecycle. The book goes on to describe progress with the changing regulatory and planning regimes in the European Sea Basins including the Caribbean where there are significant European interests. Abstract: In today's competitive global environment, manufacturers are offered with unprecedented opportunities to build hyper-efficient and highly flexible plants, towards meeting variable market demand, while at the same time supporting new production models such as make-to-order (MTO), configure-to-order (CTO) and engineer-to-order (ETO). During the last couple of years, the digital transformation of industrial processes is propelled by the emergence and rise of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry4.0). The latter is based on the extensive deployment of Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies in the manufacturing shopfloor, as well as on the seamless and timely exchange of digital information across supply chain participants. The benefits of Industry 4.0 have been already proven in the scope of pilot and production deployments in a number of different use cases including flexibility in automation, predictive maintenance, zero defect manufacturing and more. Despite early implementations and proof-of-concepts, CPPS/IIoT deployments are still in their infancy for a number of reasons, including:• Manufacturers' poor awareness about digital manufacturing solutions and their business value potential, as well as the lack of relevant internal CPPS/IIoT knowledge.• The high costs that are associated with the deployment, maintenance and operation of CPPS systems in the manufacturing shopfloors, which are particularly challenging in the case of SME (Small Medium Enterprises) manufacturers that lack the equity capital needed to invest in Industry 4.0.• The time needed to implement CPPS/IIoT and the lack of a smooth and proven migration path from existing OT solutions.• The uncertainty over the business benefits and impacts of IIoT and CPPS technologies, including the lack of proven methods for the techno-economic evaluation of Industry4.0 systems. • Manufacturers' increased reliance on external integrators, consultants and vendors. • The absence of a well-developed value chain needed to sustain the acceptance of these new technologies for digital automation.In order to alleviate these challenges, three European Commission funded projects (namely H2020 FAR-EDGE (http://www.far-edge.eu/), H2020 DAEDALUS (http://daedalus.iec61499.eu) and H2020 AUTOWARE (http://www.autoware-eu.org/)) have recently joined forces towards a "Digital Shopfloor Alliance". The Alliance aims at providing leading edge and standards based digital automation solutions, along with guidelines and blueprints for their effective deployment, validation and evaluation. The present book provides a comprehensive description of some of the most representative solutions that offered by these three projects, along with the ways these solutions can be combined in order to achieve multiplier effects and maximize the benefits of their use. The presented solutions include standards-based digital automation solutions, following different deployment paradigms, such as cloud and edge computing systems. Moreover, they also comprise a rich set of digital simulation solutions, which are explored in conjunction with the H2020 MAYA project (http://www.maya-euproject.com/). The latter facilitate the testing and evaluation of what-if scenarios at low risk and cost, but also without disrupting shopfloor operations. As already outlined, beyond leading edge scientific and technological development solutions, the book comprises a rich set of complementary assets that are indispensable to the successful adoption of IIoT/CPPS in the shopfloor. The book is structured in three parts as follows: • The first part of the book is devoted to digital automation platforms. Following an introduction to Industry 4.0 in general and digital automation platforms in particular, this part presents the digital automation platforms of the FAR-EDGE, AUTOWARE and DAEDALUS projects. • The second part of the book focuses on the presentation of digital simulation and digital twins' functionalities. These include information about the models that underpin digital twins, as well as the simulators that enable experimentation with these processes over these digital models. • The third part of the book provides information about complementary assets and supporting services that boost the adoption of digital automation functionalities in the Industry4.0 era. Training services, migration services and ecosystem building services are discussed based on the results of the three projects of the Digital Shopfloor Alliance. Probablemente, esta situación se deba a los efectos perturbadores de este tema, además de que no se trate de obras esencialmente eróticas. Sin embargo, el hecho de tratar de sexo puede ser un procedimiento de apertura para apreciar mejor las obras del autor brasileño y del autor colombiano. Parece interesante abordar el tema del sexo en la obra El Enigma de Qaf (2004, en español: 2010) de Alberto Mussa y la novela Ilona llega con la lluvia (1988) de Álvaro Mutis porque estos dos autores ponen a la obra diferentes dispositivos para canalizar la experiencia sexual no solamente como un placer o deseo, sino también como un acontecimiento regenerador o destructor y, sobre todo, como una fuente de saber poética y filosófica
