Abstract: Jorge Insunza Becker (April 21, 1936-March 17, 2019) was one of the main leaders of the Chilean Communist Party since the 1960s. He joined the Communist Youth in 1954. In 1962 he was promoted to the Central Committee of the PC and from 1965 he was part of his Political Commission, the one that led the triumph of Salvador Allende in 1970. After the 1973 coup d'état, he was part of the first clandestine communist leadership that assumed the resistance to the dictatorship, together with Víctor Díaz, Américo Zorrilla, Mario Zamorano and Uldarico Donaire. With the return to democracy, he was one of the main figures who addressed the crisis in the socialist countries and the reconstruction of a project of the revolutionary left. Likewise, he had an active role in the agreements that allowed the return of the PC to Congress in 2010 and promoted the pact that allowed the communists to return to government with President Michelle Bachelet in 2014. The 4 volumes that we present cover a large part of the extensive journalistic and political work of this outstanding leader of the Chilean left. Arranged in chronological sequence, the texts collect the main part of his intellectual elaboration from the 1960s to the beginning of the 21st century (Volumes I, II, III). Volume IV is a selection of the most relevant of his career, facilitating the documentary relationship contained in the previous volumes. Undoubtedly, due to the breadth of the compilation made, the whole of this work will be extremely useful both for specialists in history, and for the consultation of interested parties in general. Finally, the contributions of Isabel Torres and Rolando Álvarez, both historians, help to enhance the meaning of the performance that Jorge Insunza took on

Abstract: This book presents a set of essays that discuss various central aspects of the relationship between pandemic and education, beginning with a macro view, examining the political dimension and education. From reading this book we gather an exhaustive knowledge. It is remarkable that from the Faculty of Philosophy and Education of the UMCE, contributions on a new and fluid topic such as the pandemic have been compiled in a short time. Taken together, the essays in this book are a robust and powerful example of how scientific knowledge is constructed

Abstract: This book by Dr. Manhey is a particular contribution to the bibliography in the areas of teaching work in the Early Childhood Education sector from a Rights Approach. From this powerful and respectful view of children and children focused on their rights, it can be planned by defining certain valuable intentions, without forcing their learning to a restricted vision of them and exclusively adult-centered as usual. The same happens with evaluation, which, if fully understood in terms of its purposes and essential characteristics and implemented with an appropriate approach, can provide valuable information on the learning that is being generated, which is what is offered. in the pages of this interesting book

Abstract: This work, the result of initiatives that brings together several universities and specialists in the country, appears when a century has passed since the emergence of the history of international relations as a historical sub-discipline. For this reason, it has seemed relevant to us to signify this commemoration by addressing a theme that has its roots in the field of studies mentioned. Indeed, much has been written about the 1904 Treaty, both in Chile and Bolivia, hence we already see a series of recent studies that have clarified this process. For this reason, this book does not deal with the agreement itself, but with its relevance as a milestone in a decisive change in Chile's trajectory as the winner of the War of the Pacific, until 1929

Abstract: There are multiple reasons why a group of people takes on the task of writing a book. In our case, "Living in troubled times: from socio-critical reflections to proposals for social intervention", which is the first book produced by the Research Center on Professions in Contemporary Societies, of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, responds to a double interest. On the one hand, in the politically turbulent times that run in Chile and Latin America, we want to be participants in the construction of the subjectivities with which we will face the future sociocultural and political framework. In such a scenario we are interested in problematizing the crossroads, opportunities, interspaces, challenges, limits, and the borders or cracks of social intervention, from different multidimensional and interdisciplinary points of view. On the other hand, with a writing committed to socio-critical thoughts, we want to give a voice to the experiences, achievements and concerns that professionals of direct social intervention, or face to face, have related to us through various instances. His courage to challenge life in troubled times has inspired us to set as a goal, in the writing of each of the chapters, the development of proposals related to social intervention and professional training in social sciences, and in particular in Social Work

Abstract: The volume that the reader has in his hands (or on his screen) constitutes a selection of the studies presented at the international congress “1820. The Illusion of Freedom. Revolutionary liberalism in Spain and America in the 1920s ”, held in Las Cabezas de San Juan and Seville in March 2020, as a way to reflect (and celebrate, of course) the bicentennial of the revolution that began the so-called Liberal Triennium Spanish. The anniversary functioned as an excuse to analyze relevant problems of the present. In this case, the congress returned to the links between a stagnant society, which had nothing else to offer, and one of the most important revolutions that took place in the Iberian Peninsula. This was done through the presentation of a set of investigations that addressed the economic, political, social and cultural aspects of the Spanish revolution of 1820, and that crossed the Ibero-American world in the first half of the 19th century. It was a collective effort, which we hope we have embodied in this compilation

Abstract: This book is an excellent contribution to the knowledge of Latin American Marxism, as a set of theoretical reflections committed to the subaltern classes and popular struggles. The authors discussed by Fabián Cabaluz and Tomas Torres are very different, due to their national origin, their thematic approaches, and their political orientations: René Zavaleta Mercado, Álvaro García Linera, Aníbal Quijano and Enrique Dussel. However, as these essays show, they are part of a heterodox, heretical, anti-dogmatic Latin American Marxism, which tries to create new intellectual concepts and tools to understand Latin America - in opposition to another type of Marxism, which only seeks to apply the models theorists and politicians formulated by the Comintern, or by the Stalinist USSR (from the foreword by Michel Löwy)

Abstract: The Christian Democratic Party has been a key piece in the more general insertion of Chilean politics in the great political-ideological trends that dominated the second half of the 20th century. During the past century, relations between external and Chilean political actors were framed in the context of great processes and dilemmas of global relevance: the Cold War and the more general competition between holistic social projects, the emerging concern for human rights, the experience of post-dictatorial transitions in Southern Europe, among others. These external actors played a very relevant role in promoting the political exit strategy from the Chilean dictatorship which, by converging with internal factors, had an important impact in determining the guidelines of the transition. Local political actors, such as the PDC, far from being pieces in the hands of external referents, played a leading role, using their international networks to consolidate and consolidate their political project. Unlike other works that have addressed the international dimension of the transition, the focus of this book is not the economic or the ideological aspects, but rather the political centrality of an actor, the Christian Democratic Party, and the capacity that it it had to consolidate at the international level its position of reference for the return to democracy in Chile

Abstract: This book analyzes the uses of music in the cinema in Chile in terms of meaning and interpretation, considering the socio-political circumstances that have marked the country during the 20th century. The time frame of this research ranges from 1939 when the sustained production of films with optical sound was established in the country and 1973, when the civil-military coup d'état destroyed all the pillars of the cultural field in Chile and many filmmakers and composers left for the exile. This work aims to challenge existing historiography and research by emphasizing the sound dimension of Chilean cinema. Far from being a secondary and decorative aspect, music has been a central element in different moments and practices of Chilean cinema both internally in its formal and narrative proposals and externally in its discursiveness and links with the social and political

Abstract: The American events of the early nineteenth century, in addition to their strictly political and administrative aspects, also involved the installation of nascent modes of expression and meaning of the public word and writing. Those that developed in this sense in Buenos Aires at that time represent what, nuances more nuances less, also happened in the other urban centers of the region, rushing towards a wide panorama of changes in the forms and functions of discourse in its different arrays

Abstract: We are living in a time marked by crises of different natures and challenging contradictions. A time where the vital, environmental, health, economic and social crisis marks the rhythm of events, the morphology of imaginaries and the dispositions towards others and oneself. The situation described acquires particular edges in the Wallmapu, the territory in which this book arises; in which their ideas and proposals are directly or indirectly rooted, since, in addition to the global crisis indicated, the history of this territory is marked by injustice, contempt, conflict and the lack of conditions and provisions to productively channel the conflict as a constant that accounts for its dynamics The coordinates that we have just indicated delineate the objectives and expectations of this work, which arises academically and socially within the Master in Intercultural Studies of the Catholic University of Temuco, an academic unit linked to the Doctorate in Intercultural Studies and the Research Center in Inter-ethnic and Intercultural Studies of the same university, which share a main objective: to respond to the historical, socio-cultural and territorial conflicts of Wallmapu, taking into account and dialoguing with contexts that live similar situations, all they framed and conditioned by the processes of globalization

Abstract: In recent decades, Chile has not been immune to the dynamics of increasing immigration, causing a strong impact on public opinion. In this scenario, we must add the closing of borders as a result of the pandemic and the security policies installed by some governments, leaving multiple groups of immigrants and refugees subject to greater defenselessness. This book is the result of the academic work of young researchers graduated from Analysts in Politics and International Affairs at the University of Santiago de Chile, who have found in human movements a place to develop their first approaches to research and who represent an interest in the theme of the new generations. In order to promote the work carried out by these young researchers in the migration area and to empower them, it is essential to disseminate their proposals with a publication like this one, making this objective one of the main purposes of this text

Abstract: The tour that Dino Pancani invites us to includes the writings he disseminated in the digital newspaper El Mostrador and the most recent in the column section of the Cooperativa radio station edited by the journalist Manola Robles, who left us a few months ago. The selection of the articles is not chronological, nor is it random, but rather has a logic that readers understand as we turn the pages, with the memory aid of the titles of the different chapters or sections. It is a division by major themes to which the author devoted special time and attention at his time, because of what he was observing with his critical and inquisitive gaze or because of the reminiscences they brought to him. Some lived them as a protagonist or witness. Others studied them or on them has stopped to reflect until today. But there is something very special in these writings. An interesting mix of styles, almost a hybrid between the expression of his committed and challenging thinking and the story rich in descriptions. Between the column and the chronicle. Between a journalism of clear, clear and strong opinion that with arguments tries to demonstrate to the reader the validity of its judgment on a certain topic and an attractive chronicle abundant in nouns and especially in adjectives that give color and life to what it exposes

Abstract: This work reconstructs the political-intellectual trajectory of the Socialist Party of Chile between 1932 and 1973, reviewing its emergence and development in national political life through key moments for the development of party reflection. As stated in its pages, these moments frequently exceeded the limits of party life, being linked to events and processes typical of the global, continental and national political development of the 20th century. It is argued that during the period in question there were a series of debates that accounted for different stages in the organizational, social and intellectual development of contemporary Chilean socialism. These debates were framed in three key concepts that were frequently discussed throughout the trajectory: class, anti-imperialism and revolution. At different times, and with different meanings, the trends defined themselves and their organization as class, anti-imperialist and revolutionary, without there being a consensus on the political and programmatic scope of these definitions

Abstract: The purpose of this work is to promote epistemic reflections related to the processes of pedagogical leadership in complex contexts, based on teaching and academic experiences, in the contexts of the current economic, health and social crises experienced by the world population and that weaken the students and teachers, during the years 2020 and 2021. The work is collective and the result of a call presented by the Ibero-American Research Center in Education, which called on teachers, academics and postgraduate students to share their experiences and reflections on how leadership in educational centers is expressed and educational contributions are expressed, of how to face the development of the Paradigm of Complexity (Morin, 2001), of how academics and teachers assumed the new pedagogy in the critical contexts caused by inequality, social crisis and of health, which confronts us with complex realities that fill us with uncertainties
