Abstract: The correspondence between Franco Fortini and Carlo Cassola covers a wide range of time, from 1955 to 1981 and focuses on three core themes: the journey to China in 1955 and the writing of two reportages on this topic; the events of 1965 and the literary fervour arisen around left-wing journals; Cassola’s poetic and literary production, enriched with Fortini’s critical notes. However, and the same time, the correspondence between Cassola and Fortini also shows the birth (and developments) of a complex relationship, characterized by friendship and reciprocal influence, that involves two among the most well-known figures of the twentieth century. The correspondence represents a unique resource for the analysis of the legacy, poetics and cultural background of the two great authors

Abstract: The book identifies the characteristics of comparative method in the social sciences and its applications in library and information science, analyzing aims, methodological problems, phases and approaches of comparative librarianship. It is a disciplinary field, still little explored in the Italian context, which aims to examine structures, services, practices and functions of libraries to highlight aspects and peculiarities in a defined context, relating different realities, analyzing causes and effects of emerged specificities and evaluating factors that influence their development. The reflection is enriched by a critical analysis of Italian and foreign comparative researches and by the proposal of a work outline to approach comparative librarianship

Abstract: «Auf Wiedersehen in Florenz!» Voci di ebrei tedeschi dall’Italia presents a new Italian perspective on German exile literature, which is related to the migration of German-Jewish intellectuals to Florence after 1933. A reconstruction of the historical context is provided by shedding light on the intersections between Italian, German and Jewish cultures in the Florentine context but also on the literary production of the involved authors. Migration writers such as Alice Berend, Rudolf Borchardt, Karl Wolfskehl and Walter Hasenclever are presented in relation to the process of writing in exile, whereas the works of Max Krell, Monika Mann, Otti Binswanger-Lilienthal and Georg Strauss are analyzed in the section devoted to post-exile

Abstract: On the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Giorgio Caproni (Livorno 1912 - Roma 1990), this volume, through the expertise and work of Michela Baldini, proposes a very useful and necessary tool: a complete bibliography of/on Giorgio Caproni, from 1933 to 2020, with almost 4000 reports. The Antologia della critica concludes the volume, offering important studies on Caproni (Betocchi, Bo, Macrí, Dolfi, Ramat, Surdich, Zuliani)

Abstract: Alfredo Serrai in the volume Gabriel Naudé, Helluo Librorum, e l'Advis pour dresser une bibliothèque, publish the version from French to Italian of the first exposition of the Librarianship as a discipline, together with an ample introduction both historical and conceptual. With the arguments and the praxis introduced and explained by Naudé, in the first decades of the XVII century has begun the discipline “Librarianship as the science of the selection and of the order of books” that implement their disposition in a library. With Naudé the library becomes not only the proper image of the science, but a true testimonial of the verity against its manipulations and errors. In such a vision of both the research and morality, the naudean philosophical principles can be properly situated in the frame of a mature preilluminism

Abstract: The iconological analysis of Crespi's paintings for Grand Prince Ferdinando de'Medici reveals shared ideas rooted in Seneca's philosophy, basis of their taste for genre and pastoral scenes. Crespi was a leading figure of the prince's artistic view, according to which arts and sciences guide to wisdom and virtue. Their appreciation for bizarre iconographies and Venetian style painting is clarified by ideas inspired by Seneca on ingenuity and picturesque frenzy. The characteristics of conciseness, brilliance, coexistence of archaism and innovation associate Ferdinando's artistic and musical patronage, influencing his favourite artists and composers and perhaps Handel's art collection

Abstract: Florence, the celebrated city-republic, dominates the historiography of medieval Italy still today. The birth and growth of the Mendicant Orders paralleled the rise of urban Europe. As attention to medieval cities has increased, so too the history of the Dominican Order has constituted a major field of study, since the Dominicans were at the forefront of the cultural and religious life of Medieval cities. The combination of these two traditions of studies precipitates a particularly fruitful research field: the reciprocal influences and interactions between the activities of Dominican intellectuals and the making of Florentine cultural identity. The essays collected in this volume explore various facets of such an interaction. Without presuming to be exhaustive, these contributions restore the complexity of the relationship between the Dominicans and the city of Florence as well as the communal society in the broadest sense of the term

Abstract: This book explains the nature of capitalism both as a production system and as a historical process. Capitalism has superseded the systems based on rent and privileges, has freed up enterprise, brought in competition, set merit above corporative relations and patronage; has created a steady increase in wealth. The process has generated the development of the middle classes, a critical culture civil rights and democracy. However, the pursuit of profit has always tended to op-press the weaker categories and rob the less advanced economies. These two contrary trends cannot coexist indefinitely. Today the essential clash is between welfare for all and neoliberalism, based on increasing inequalities, rising financial rents and the exploitation of workers

Abstract: An architect and academic, Giovanni Klaus Koenig (1924-1989) was a designer of rail means of transport, passionate scholar of trains and trams, critic of contemporary architecture and an industrial design historian. As an intellectual he was committed to solving the problems of Florence, his city. All of this in years in which critical and operational attention to the present was uncommon, the discipline of design was still to be founded, the involvement of an architect with rolling stock companies was out of the ordinary. The text aims to piece together his figure mirrored with his city and the national context, thanks to the contribution of those who had him as an interlocutor and the scholars who worked on the beaten track of his research. The goal is not limited to render the complex of a culturally incisive personality, but to highlight areas still to be explored for current scholars, those "phosphorescent trails" that he left us as a legacy
