Kurzfassung: This book proposes a series of studies devoted to one of the most important areas of political and institutional history, that of the relations between the political dimension and the exercise of justice. Centred on the experience of Florence, but open to comparison with that of other parts of Italy, the investigation brings to light how, in the transformation of the political framework of the age of the Comune to that of the territorial State between the thirteenth and the fifteenth centuries, in the relations between the powers active in the territory the sphere of justice offered scope for debate and political competition as well as leverage for legitimisation. One of the intentions of the book is, in fact, to contribute to revising the concept of justice, going beyond the traditional vision of public function and an aspect of the progressive affirmation of the State

Kurzfassung: Dieses Buch trägt zu einem besseren Verständnis der Bedeutung und Dynamik von Transport- und Kommunikationswegen in Afrika bei. Angola und sein Hinterland werden als herausragendes Beispiel dafür betrachtet, wie nachhaltig solche Verbindungen die Geschichte und Lebensbedingungen einer Region geprägt haben, die in vieler Hinsicht wie ein Mikrokosmos Afrikas insgesamt erscheint. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit richtet das Buch darauf, wie aus Routen und Verbindungen eine Landschaft in Bewegung, aber auch mit Begrenzungen und Blockaden entstand, und wie die Beteiligten diese wahrnahmen und mit ihr umgingen. Das Buch behandelt eine beachtenswerten Aspekt der Geschichte Afrikas, der zugleich ein konstitutiver Bestandteil von Weltgeschichte war. Es bezieht dazu eine Vielfalt sich ergänzender Ansätze und Perspektiven ein.

Kurzfassung: In a perspective of local history that combines problem analysis with a reconstruction accessible even to non-specialists, this book addresses the economy, society and institutions of a rural community of the Tuscan Apennines. The community of Raggiolo is portrayed over a long span of time ranging from the late centuries of the Middle Ages up to the end of the eighteenth century. We are thus offered a picture of the Casentino mountains which reveals - in the centuries-old intertwining of mountain economy, social equality, sharing of the management of the local administration and the goods belonging to the collectivity - one of the main reasons for the resistance to change which was to mark the end of the ancien regime

Kurzfassung: This book recounts the phases in the set-up of the new Library of Social Sciences of the University of Florence. The move provided the opportunity for bringing together the collections that were scattered over seven service points and in about a dozen other sites closed to the public. At the same time, it provided the opportunity for reconsidering the services on offer, reorganising them on the basis of the characteristics of the new site. The first section tells how the library was conceived and planned, with the librarians' working groups preparing the move and projecting the changes to be made in the new site. The second part tackles the problems of organisation and management of the services in the new library
