Main description: Der Tagungsband zum Stuttgarter Kolloquium »Deutsch-französische Wahrnehmungsmuster und das Konzept nationaler Identität im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert« revidiert, von einem konstruktivistischen Verständnis von Nation ausgehend, die komparatistische Frage nach dem "Bild", das die Literatur von dem Fremden vermittelt. Aus sozial-, literatur- und geschichtswissenschaftlicher Perspektive untersuchen die Beiträge am Beispiel von deutschen und französischen Texten zwischen Aufklärung und Vormärz das Verhältnis von Nationalstereotypen, Wahrnehmung bzw. Darstellung des Fremden und Identitätsbildung.

Main description: Proceeding from a constructivist understanding of the term 'nation', this volume containing the papers delivered at the Stuttgart colloquium on »German-French Perception Patterns and the Concept of National Identity in the 18th and 19th Centuries« re-views the question of the 'image' of otherness and the foreign conveyed by literature. From a sociological, literary and historical perspective the articles examine German and French texts from the period between the Enlightenment and the Vormärz to elucidate the relations between national stereotypes, awareness and representation of otherness, and identity formation.
