    Abstract: Essen ist ein Sinnbild für das Leben, stiftet Identität, Heimat und kulturelle Regeln. Für den Ethnologen Claude Levi-Strauss markiert das Kochen von Nahrung die erste kulturelle Handlung des Menschen und damit den Beginn von Zivilisation und Handwerk. In der heutigen Überflussgesellschaft hat sich Essen allerdings zum kreativen Selbstdarstellungsmittel und zur Ersatzreligion entwickelt. Auf der anderen Seite machen explosionsartig steigende Bevölkerungszahlen, der Klimawandel, Ressourcenknappheit, Hunger und Überproduktion, wachsende Anforderungen an Gesundheit und Hygiene sowie geopolitische Krisen ein Umdenken bezüglich Produktion, Verpackung, Vertrieb, Konsum und Entsorgung zwingend notwendig. In der Ausstellung Food Revolution 5.0 beschäftigt sich das Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MKG) mit einer der dringlichsten Fragen des 21. Jahrhunderts: Wie sieht die Zukunft unserer Ernährung in einer durch schwindende Ressourcen geprägten Wachstumsgesellschaft aus? Stiftung Buchkunst: ..."Der Ausstellungskatalog dokumentiert künstlerische Projekte, die die brennenden Fragen zur Welternährung, zu ökonomischen wie kultursoziologischen Aspekten in einer Art kritischen Visionssuche reflektieren. Das grafisch disparate Material solcher Projekte lässt sich oft kaum homogenisieren. Dem begegnet die buchgestalterische Lösung mit einem wilden Konzept, aber nur vordergründig. Es setzt die Überschriften in superfetten, megabreiten Groteskminuskeln. Sie klingen jedes Mal – als Kontrast zu allem anderen – wie ein Gong; eine klassische Zeitungsschrift bringt in die Projektartikel und die Textkapitel Ruhe hinein. Der Unterschied zwischen Projekten und Essays wird haptisch geklärt: durch einen Papierwechsel von mattglattem Bilderdruckpapier – für den Hauptteil – zu einem etwas leichteren, leicht gelblichen Papier – für den umfangreichen Textanhang. Der poppige Look des Buches schlägt die Brücke zwischen kulinarischen Lebensstilen und globaler Lebensmittelverschwendung. "

Often general and trite assumptions are made distinguishing between East and West, Arabic-Islamic and Western-Christian civilisation, without addressing each culture's specific characteristics in appropriate ways. Aware of the fact that the reception of art from these countries calls for a new approach, the museum for contemporary art, MARTa in Herford, Germany, has invited nine female artists from Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iran and Iraq to share their work. They all came to the West as university students or exiles, and most of them never returned to their homes. This exhibition focuses on their works of art and devotes ample space to the particular biographical and national details in the lives of these women.
